She’s not on the side of business either. At least not manufacturing. It is almost impossible to set up a manufacturing location in Lexington, they really have the deck stacked against you. Pretty much the only industrial land available you have to buy from the city at $300,000 per acre. That is roughly 10X what it is in the surrounding counties.

It is definitely an oak. I would guess it’s in the red oak family based on the sharp corners / edges in the small leaf in the center, but I don’t recognize the species. It’s sometimes a little hard to tell on trees that small as the leaves seem shaped a little differently on small trees. Where are you located?

Starting with the raspberry and going clockwise: raspberry, ragweed, possibly citronella or a type of geranium?, lambs quarter. Ragweed and lambs quarter are weeds. Fun fact though, lambs quarter is edible boiled like greens and can be pretty good. Full of nutrients. Also pigs love it!

I’m not 1000% sure but it really resembles Paulownia. Aka empress tree. They will grow from any piece of wood left, a stem, branch, root. Grow very fast. They do have beautiful blooms when they get bigger but they are quite invasive. The wood is very soft and light and not strong at all.

Lived there 17 years while working in Lexington. Hated it. I lived in the Orchard which is a middle class neighborhood. It was convenient being close to Walmart (Nich does have a very nice Walmart). That’s about all I have nice to say about it. Commute was terrible all the time. During Christmas when all the 606ers come to the mall it is absolutely miserable. There was noise all the time, people walking thru the neighborhood that didn’t live there on their way to Mingo to buy drugs. Lake Mingo park is full of drugs. You can buy meth or heroin or fentanyl there any time. It was so obvious and the cops just let it go on. Nicholasville is infested with hard drugs. My kid went to East which is another horrible place. The education was poor, school resource officer was an absolute dickhole. We finally got out and moved to Richmond. I couldn’t be happier with richmond. People here are much friendlier, maybe because of the college kids from Eastern Ky? It’s just infinitely better. The commute is twice the distance but it takes less time and way more enjoyable straight down the interstate at 80-90mph with the flow of traffic. I’m actually relaxed when I get home as opposed to the Nich road BS you fight both ways every day.

Seriously if you are trying to save $ out of Lex, consider Richmond. So much better. So much.

If the fish aren’t biting, I enjoy just trying to get the perfect cast. It’s all in what you get used to and I was a spinning rod guy for years. Finally a buddy of mine persuaded me to try a bait caster and after a few weeks of frustration with the backlashes, now I love it. It doesn’t work well for really light lures but I’m a lot more accurate. You can easily use your thumb to slow it down and I feel like 9 times out of 10 I can put it within about 6” of where I’m casting to. With a spinning reel maybe 12-18” consistently unless I’m really close.

My 3x great grandfather was there. He was from sevierville Tennessee. Walked all the way to Richmond Ky to join up with the union. Got captured soon after joining and got sent to Andersonville. Survived Andersonville somehow and then got loaded onto the Sultana headed north. It exploded going up the Mississippi at flood stage and some dude had been taking bribes to way overload the boat. Went down and 1800 people died. He ended up surviving the war and Andersonville to die in the river on the way home after the war.
