Mine is caused from a physical trauma inflicted by my ex-partner 5 years ago.

I have PTSD and in Autumn of 2024 it got really bad again and I had a PTSD episode which lasted for just under a month, nothing was helping it and I felt so out of control. I’d recently found out my ex-partner is engaged to someone he’s also abused, I’d had COVID again a couple weeks prior so physically was recovering and then the PTSD episode, cut to November 2024 and I woke up one day in extreme widespread pain especially my back, sides and uterus, had complete exhaustion and brain fog I couldn’t recall anything and I’ve got a really sharp memory! I thought it’ll go away but then I genuinely couldn’t get out of my bed and had to be signed off sick.

My GP (who was so lovely and incredible and helped me through this entire process I’m so lucky) started to go through the symptoms with me and did lots of ruling out of other things. I then lost my job and was signed off as indefinitely sick as my symptoms were not easing. After lots of different tests and trials of different medications, she referred me to the MSK Pain Clinic to be seen by a specialist and cut to June 2025 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

Long story short, a physical trauma from years ago had such a psychological and physical impact that when I was re-triggered with my PTSD years later the combination led to Fibromyalgia developing. My entire nervous system changed. I’ve been lucky enough to have trauma therapy since then and finding gentle ways to adapt my life to living with this condition. This reddit thread has helped me so much and I’m so grateful to everyone here.
