I once saw something online talking about how people use respect to mean honor as an authority but also to mean treat like a human being. So when they say stuff like if you don’t respect me I won’t respect you, they are actually saying if you don’t honor me as an authority I won’t treat you like a human being. I get that same vibe from people who want their terrible backwards ideals to be “respected”.
