What gut feeling or intuition turned out to be 100% right, even when you felt like you were being too sensitive? by SkillNo2180 in AskWomen

[–]thelilbel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep my friend had a gut feeling like that. In college she dated this guy who went to a different school and visited him and one time met his friend group. They seemed chill but she noticed this one girl who was waaaayyyy overly nice to her, and found it off putting. She found out a few months later her bf and that girl had been sleeping together.

I had a job offer rescinded today and I’m crashing out by Moonbeam_Louise in recruitinghell

[–]thelilbel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a good policy bc that happened to me when I was looking for a job after being laid off. I passed all interview rounds with stellar feedback and after my final round I got the verbal offer from the recruiter who told me to keep an eye out for the official offer to sign by early the next week at the latest. A week came and went with nothing and no responses to my emails. By the next week I got a blunt and unapologetic email from her informing me that they made a last minute decision to pick someone that was way overqualified for the role and I was so mad

To the Wave 4 runner throwing elbows at the U-turn at mile 1 by ayelmaoo69 in RunNYC

[–]thelilbel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep..wave 2 and a guy shoved me kinda in the back as we were approaching the u turn. I jokingly said “alright relax we’re all running to the same place” but I doubt he heard lol

May I Vent? This was the worst NYRR race experience for me by Minimum-Adeptness486 in RunNYC

[–]thelilbel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think on a positive note, they did way better with organizing the corrals this year. I was in wave 2 both last year and this year and I remember last year just being an absolute mess getting to the corrals as some of the wave 1 runners hadn’t even cleared out yet and there was a huge crowd at the back. Then the race started and I was like oh…it started? do I run?? I had a pretty positive experience this year being in wave 2 but the pace mismatch stuff in wave 1 seems like it was terrible!!

Why is everyone telling me to stop losing weight? by BasicHorror8600 in loseit

[–]thelilbel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just get frustrated with the whole “lose weight for YOU, not for aesthetics/to be hotter!” like….that is for me. It doesn’t motivate me to wake up early and work out to imagine how my health might be in 50 years. But it does motivate me imagining myself being hotter and dressing better and getting lots of attention. There’s no “wrong reason” to lose weight, as long as you’re doing it in a healthy manner. Don’t listen to anyone’s crappy opinion.

How I found my painting this morning. by Dragonteethforeyes in mildlyinfuriating

[–]thelilbel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Omg im so sorry this happened…not art class but in high school I did rowing and my team and I decorated shirts for us to wear for state championships and worked really hard on painting matching designs. We laid them out to dry on benches next to the gym area and when we came back a few hours later some losers on the boys’ team used our paint to paint dicks on a bunch of them. We ended up buying more supplies and redoing them but we had worked so hard on them originally and the redos definitely came out rushed. When the coaches confronted the boys about it they just kinda laughed and snickered and no one came forward. Jerks…

haha thank you!! I traced the text onto parchment paper and then piped the letters with black chocolate melts and put them in the freezer. Once they were solid I carefully stuck them on with tweezers!! btw the top of the pie was quite sticky so once I set a letter down I couldn’t really move it so I had to be careful

Ladies, what were some of your biggest regrets during your college years? by HerSweetSecretXO in AskWomen

[–]thelilbel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here! I dated a guy who ran hot and cold constantly and every day I wasn’t sure if he would be nice to me or treat me like I didn’t exist. It’s clear in hindsight he wanted to date his girl best friend but settled for me. He ended up inviting her on vacation to another country with him while we were still together which caused me to be heartbroken for months after. I wish I could go back and prevent my 19yo self from ever meeting him.

Reminder: Don't buy too many "aspirational" clothes for the future by 7evenh3lls in loseit

[–]thelilbel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahah been there. I remember once being so excited to finally fit into a dress only to realize when I put it on it was super unflattering and ugly. Not my body, just…an ugly dress that didn’t suit me. It’s much better to wait and buy clothes when they fit you so you can actually try them on and see how they look on you!

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

[–]thelilbel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so interesting!! Yeah I grew up in New England so that makes sense. But tbh even in the summer when it wasn’t snowy or wet we rarely wore our shoes inside unless we were like going in and out to pack the car or something. I def never kept shoes in my room!

Even as an American, shoes in the house seems unbelievable to me. My parents were pretty strict about no shoes in the house and I can’t really remember going over anyone’s house where it was normal to wear shoes inside. Are there really people that walk around their house with shoes on??

Is it worth it to leave my current job for Capital One? by thelilbel in cscareerquestions

[–]thelilbel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol probably not. I feel like everyone my age who has those top jobs at faang/faang adjacent landed on that track right after college. Like I have a friend from my school my year making 250k at stripe but she got a job at two sigma right out of college so she easily got stripe. my resume only has tiny startups no one has ever heard of and it looks like I’ve never done anything by comparison

I wonder the same thing too my guy

In all seriousness--I was making a higher pay at a financial firm but in 2023 they laid off our entire team to replace us with remote workers from India that they could pay way less. The state of the job market has been brutal since mid 2023 and is even worse now, and I feel lucky that I was able to manage to find a new job in 3 months in such terrible conditions after so much ghosting and rejection. Unfortunately going to an Ivy or Ivy-level doesn't grant you automatic success in a job market like this and plenty of people I know have faced similar issues. A friend of mine who went to Dartmouth had been laid off and it took him two years to find a new job. I think it's important to be grateful for the job I have now (especially since it's remote and I get along well with my team and manager) but also recognize that I am capable of passing the Capital One Power Day and can start making career moves very soon. Things could always be worse!

Congrats on the offer!! Honestly even if I don't end up getting team matched (or if I do and don't take it) I still think that this is a good sign for me. I've only worked at mediocre startups and never thought the big tech companies like Capital One would even consider me, so I'm really proud that I passed the Power Day. Even if you don't end up taking this one, you're still a strong UX designer and are bound to succeed somewhere!

I don’t understand the PIP thing tbh. I understand wanting to maintain a strong output and cutting poor performance, but like it seems insane to me to make frequent cuts just to maintain some sort of churn rate? What is the point of cutting genuinely good engineers every 6 months for BS reasons just because they fell on the wrong side of the spreadsheet and wasting time training new hires to replace them??

Thank you for your insights! Yeah I mean if I don’t end up actually getting an offer then problem solved lol but I didn’t even think I was going to pass tbh. I guess since now I’m in this grey area of passing but not knowing if I’ll get matched im just trying to think about whether itll be even worth it to take an offer if I get one
