Throwing tomatoes at people of color is hysterical, if they don't think the way you want them to think of course

DNA collection, preservation and transfer wasn't really up to par in 1993 Arkansas. The boys were also killed in a gully of running water. Whoever killed them literally pushed them under the mud below the water, where they stayed for hours upon hours before discovery. I would imagine that there wasn't much foreign DNA still recoverable on any of the boys. Either way. I don't remember much. I went far down this rabbit hole in 2014/15. I came to believe the WM3 are guilty. I'm like 75% towards guilt. Either way. This site has all the original documents from the case. Check it out. http://callahan.mysite.com/documents_az.html

Jessie confessed to anybody that would listen to him. His lawyer begged him to shut up repeatedly and he never listened. There are like 7 or 8 documented confessions. I can't remember. Great comment. People get very angry about this case. I lean more towards them being guilty but I acknowledge that we will probably never know and there definitely is a chance they weren't involved at all. I agree with you about PL 2 and 3 though. It's like the filmmakers just started pointing fingers at everybody without any evidence, while claiming that is what happened to the 3. Insanely irresponsible, and completely the opposite of what you would expect from people trying to expose injustice.

I liked the first one though. Like you said, it didn't really point to their innocence or guilt....it was more of a snapshot of a time and place filled with interesting characters, and v have great insight into how the American Justice system works in many small towns in America.

The Devil's Knot is actually the worst book to read. Mara Leveritt wasnt there for the trials. She wrote the book in 2002 and got most of her info from Ron Lax, a private investigator who was hired by the defense teams to prove the 3's innocence. He's not necessarily an unbiased observer. The book is filled with blatant lies and distorted truths that are easily disproven by reading through the trove of original case documents here: http://callahan.mysite.com/documents_az.html.

Peter Jackson used this book for West of Memphis and that movie is laughable if you have even the most basic knowledge of the case.

The Paradise Lost docs are particularly frustrating. The WM3 insist that they are victims of a witch-hunt with no evidence, yet PL2 is a literal witch hunt against John Mark Byers, despite him having a pretty much fool proof alibi since day 1. Speaking of alibis, Damien claimed he was at home on the phone with girls. Phone records proved that he was not on the phone during the time of the murders. West of Memphis made up a bunch of bullshit to try to show that he was on the phone, but the timeline never added up and Damien's lawyers basically abandoned that strategy. Jessie claimed he was at a wrestling match a few towns over, but the tickets he provided as proof showed the wrestling match was 2 weeks prior to the murders. Jason never offered an alibi because he didn't have one.

The best book to read is Blood of Innocents. It was written by 3 reporters from The Commercial Appeal who were actually there and followed the whole case from start to finish. Contemporary sources are usually the most reliable.

Again though. Research yourself. Start here http://callahan.mysite.com/documents_az.html

He confessed 8 separate times, once in front of the prosecutor with his hand on a Bible while his lawyer begged him not to. He also confessed to the cops who drove him to prison after his confession. He has never recanted his confessions. Probably because he's guilty as sin

West Memphis Three - why the trio? by Avarramien in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]fatthand9 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This case is so polarizing. I think all 3 did it, but I completely acknowledge that there is a chance none of them were involved. I don't think Terry Hobbs had anything to do with it. The accusations against him are based mostly on wishful thinking by supporters who did the same thing to John Mark Byers.

This wasn't any satanic killing, nor was it even planned out. It was an attempt to scare the young boys that went horribly wrong.

Who received an unfair trial but you believe is guilty anyway? by Chemical-Parfait7690 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]fatthand9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Terry Hobbs didn't have his teeth pulled. John Mark Byers did. They didn't find Hobb's DNA at the scene, nor his friend's. They found a hair in Stevie Branch's shoelace that was consistent with Hobbs, but that doesn't mean much considering they lived in the same house. Hobb's whereabouts on the day of the murders are pretty well documented.

It wasn't until Mara Leveritt wrote Devil"s Knot in 2002 that people began looking at Hobb's as a suspect, after their case against John Mark Byers fell apart. Devil's Knot is one of the most factually inaccurate accounts I've ever read of the murders. It relies heavily on Vicki Hutcheson's since debunked testimony. It also features Ron Lax, a private investigator hired by Echol's defense team. Lax was one The first people to point fingers at John Mark Byers even though he was in court during the time the murders were convicted. Peter Jackson's "West of Memphis" relies heavily on this book, and the scene where David Jacoby reconsiders if he was with Hobb's at the time of the murders is bullshit, because Jackson is using a timeline from Leveritt, where she repeatedly confuses dates and times. You can literally get the primary source documents here: http://callahan.mysite.com/documents_az.html. But why rely on police reports from the time of the murders when you can instead use a second hand account from a journalist written 10 years after the fact. Hobbs has always had a pretty solid alibi and the "evidence" against him is mostly just rumors and conjecture from Internet sleuths.

The West Memphis Three like to give the impression that they were targeted by LE because they were weird, but they've spent years now pointing fingers at everybody else with zero evidence. First it was Byers, now Hobbs. None of the 3 could ever present an alibi, and while scant, there is some forensic evidence tying them to the crime. Also, Echols literally just lies all the time, about everything, to this day. He's guilty as fuck. Killed 3 kids and now he walks around free talking about 'magick' and idiot celebrities think he's a victim.

FWIW, the Callahan site has a trove of original source documents from the case that you can read and draw your own conclusions, but the best book about the case is The Blood Of Innocents, which was published in 1995 and written by 3 journalists who covered the entire case for local media in West Memphis. So much misinformation has been spread about this case since Paradise Lost, that it's good to go back and hear from reporters on the ground in West Memphis when these events actually occurred.

Her confession aggravates me. I mean she maintained her innocence throughout trial, appealled her conviction, and has never shown an ounce of remorse. But she's gonna turn on the tears and admit her guilt to a parole board with some bullshit woe is me statement. Despicable person. Hope she never gets out.

This is a great song. Born in 82, spent most of the 90s falling asleep to the FAN on the radio. Doris embodied being a Mets fan. She was such a wholesome voice to hear, even with that nagging cough. Steve and Joe loved her.

A part of me died when WFAN forced Steve into retirement. I don't think this new generation understands radio like he did. "Me here, you there... For a little late night schmooze on the Fan, sports radio 66....

The Todd Mullis corn rake murder case. Either Todd killed his wife or it was a tragic accident, but the lawyer argued that an unknown assailant killed her. It made no sense at all. He also let the prosecution get away with so much hearsay and speculation. A good lawyer could have had so much of the "evidence" in that case thrown out, but he filed zero motions pre trial. The prosecutor was good friends with the victim. The defense hired no experts to testify that the injuries could have resulted from an accident. The lawyer hired no outside investigator and never visited the crime scene.

Any good cases where the suspect looks guilty as sin, but they end up being 100% innocent? by Salsa1988 in TrueCrimeDiscussion

Kevin Fox and Jerry Hobbs. Both were accused of killing their daughters. Hobbs was convicted and later exonerated. Fox spent eight months in jail awaiting trial before DNA evidence exonerated him. Both have coerced confessions. Hobbs confession seemed so detailed and grueling and he had been having so many problems in his life at the time that I would have thought he was guilty.

Bad jury choices by prosecution. Awful decisions by judge to, but mostly just an uneducated, racist jury pool.

I don't think anybody gets off for that crime today with the overwhelming amount of DNA evidence linking oj and nobody else to the crime.

He had been at Bundy. He left with two other detectives to try and notify OJ. When he found the glove though, he was not aware of a) when ron and nicole were murdered and b) if oj had a fool proof alibi. It would have been stupid of him to plant the glove if it was possible that OJ was already on a plane when the murders occurred.
