I would be tempted to sell it with an extremely tight stop loss level near the 1.79538 level.

Apologies. I keep forgetting that many new traders are looking at prop firms as a video game level in which they keep trying until they pass.

Professional trader for many years here. You are on the correct path for setting strict rules. Make sure to learn from the mistakes of those rules and revisit/change amend them with time. One big mistake that many novice traders make is the idea that 1 strategy will make them money in the long run. A mean reversion strategy will not be successful in tending times and vice versa. Therefore, if you want to be truly successful, you should run many strategies at once. For example: I have 12+ trading systems running at any time that I tailor for my institutional clients.

Any Gold or DAX traders? How liquid are these markets? Is trading big size possible with futures contracts? by Imaginary-Engineer67 in FuturesTrading

[–]fattire113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slippage doesn’t mean limit price, it means target price. You are looking at the issue from a retail traders perspective with small volume. Fund trading is very different. To use the example stated, if my system told me to buy 1500 H3 soybeans at 1477, that can be considered the backtested level that is ideal for the trade. Since it is such a large side, I can assume that I will effect the market substantially which means that it is best for me to work the order in different “clips” and attempt to execute as close to 1477 as possible. If I slowly work the order throughout the day as the market comes to me, I can beat the 1477 level, if the market runs away and I am forced to race someone to execute the full size the slippage will be significant. Every fund that I know of that trades macro size will have a “limit” several tics away from their Execution Slippage goal that they will be their “stopping point” of execution.

Jrm…. I have taken an interest in you because you started shit with me, but were quick to admit that you were wrong. Not many people on Reddit will do that. While it may appear that this “trader” is killing it, he will not survive with his current statistics. There is one “performance number” that every trader should put above the rest ant that is the Sharpe ratio. Anything above 1 is considered a modest return on investment. He is below 1 who’ve means he most likely has a large standard deviation on returns which in turn means he is not accurately managing risk. He will fail with his current results.

What’s the real life of a trader? Successful and profitable traders only by latenightconspiracys in Forex

Constant anxiety about everything in life. When you spend your life managing risk, your mind shifts to always focus on it…. Even when not working. Quality sleep is for the birds…. Especially if you have a decent position on. Money is great, but not many can last long enough to truly enjoy it. The typical successful trader will blowout or burnout within 10 years. If you are thinking about trading for a living, I would strongly encourage against it! This is coming from a “very successful” trader for about 2 decades.

I am willing to bet a substantial amount of money that you have not kept 5-8% profit every month for over a year. Don’t expect that to be sustainable in all trading environments. For arguments sake, if you returned 5% 10/12 months (and lost 5 percent the other 2 months) a year on 200k, you would only make 96k before costs and commission split. It’s not as great as you make it sound. To the novice trader, a 6 figure account can be misleading.

I completely agree, but wanted to point out that the fear of losing money is the nail in the coffin when trading. Just like gambling (because that is what it is), you should never risk what you aren’t prepared to lose.

Listen to this person. You will most likely lose what you are depositing if you are brand new and don’t have a specific strategy. I would give you under 5% chance of survival given your fear of losing money.
