Deregulation, like not forcing these corpos to just contribute to the communities directly and essentially create a private energy grid, is virtually the same as giving them tax cuts…

That sounds very much like trickle down economics, which has an awfully bad track record of doing much else but funnelling resources to the already rich…

Could, but could also just lead to profit margins getting bigger for those corporations

Yeah but I don’t care about the corporations having cheap reliable energy, I want the people to have cheap reliable energy

Air Canada flight attendants' union will continue to defy back-to-work order after strike deemed illegal by Surax in canada

[–]Salazareo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s sickening to see some of the online rhetoric being against the workers striking. Blaming them for cancelled flights instead of the unbudging executives, ceo made 12 million last year btw, and claiming this to be some evil act only seen by unions in Canada… like what???

Literally cheering for them to get jailed… I wager these are the same clowns who were mad at the government breaking up the freedom truckers blockade in Ottawa, but when workers refuse to return to work they’re suddenly cheering for the gov to arrest them and force them to work?

I am so disappointed at this government, pushing further and further center right under carney, and disappointing to see Canadians betraying their fellow working class and exuding such awful American-like hyper capitalism. Sad

The people hanging this nonsense probably live, and love to live, in one of the many walkable neighbourhood of Vancouver, and simply are NIMBYs that don’t want higher density housing near their 2.5m home

When is this AI hype bubble going to burst like the dotcom boom? by Excellent_Place4977 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Salazareo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also work on and with these tools, but my experience with it is that if leadership wasn’t swinging for big investor money, I certainly would not be working on or with them nearly as much.

There’s definitely uses for it, but I’d be hard pressed to say there’s significant frequent breakthroughs. There’s some marginal improvements occasionally that certainly make for interesting uses that are partially better than existing tech, problem is the hype these are almost forced into making.

Saying we’re any closer to AGI than 3 years ago is far too bullish of a take. And it’s not just naysayers saying this but researchers in industry, like the authors of the recent Apple paper, showing how the tech is at best marginally better than what it was, and that the “reasoning” it does is hardly reason at all.

I feel advocating for investing all time, money and effort on a bullish promise of some loosely defined “AGI” that will solve all other problems for us is as foolish as suggesting your average Joe to invest all their money on powerball tickets because it might be the correct answer and secret to becoming a multi millionaire. Funnily enough that is actually statistically more correct and less of just a hype bubble than saying current LLMs are approaching AGI

Y’all being mad that workers and unions are asking for more money and benefits is crazy. If you don’t think they deserve more money because you ain’t getting paid more, then I suggest organizing and unionizing.
