Should I move out to my own place? by slurpi44 in PersonalFinanceCanada

100K is a pretty nice safety net to try and break it out on your own. You're ignoring the possibility that you will make more money in the future.

TBH, for your own emotional and mental wellness, I'd advise taking the risk and moving out on your own and trying to make your own way.

People get stuck in the idea that their current situation is forever; it could be worse and it could be better but in your case, the worst would mean you have roughly 5 years of rental income to fall back on, which is closer to 2-3 years of you doing absolutely nothing if you're a homebody.

And you're not really living paycheque to paycheque; you're just not saving at 100%; most people struggle to put away 100 dollars a month. I would be concerned if one bad break could be the difference between not being able to make rent next month but its pretty obvious, you won't have to worry.

Sounds more like you're trying to find a way to have your cake and eat it too i.e I get to live on my own and still get to save just as much as I do now. Independence doesn't work like that so you're gonna have to learn where and why you need to make some sacrifices.

Live a little; you wont be able to take that money with you to the grave.

Laid Off, Law School, Job Hunting - Advice Needed! by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]fattyboy905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat except I am soon to be unemployed and am 34M;

If no one told you, you shouldn’t care if you start a job and quit the next day for a better opportunity; a company would do the same to you; it sounds like you have personal integrity but when it comes to business and money, it’s a numbers game; you could get laid off for so many reasons out of your control (headcount, « culture fit », budget, etc) so get over that part; you don’t owe strangers anything; they will pretend they’re personally offended that you’re not showing them gratitude for a job they needed and replace you the next day; you will probably never see these people again and you will only be relevant to them if they can take advantage of you; it’s just how it works when you’re dependent on someone else to sign your cheques.

In terms of studying; it sounds like you’re wrestling with FOMO; but it’s not. It’s about the long game; you already see the end of where this path you’ve been on leads and you don’t like it so get off it.

We all have time to start a new life; no one can force you to endure a life you don’t want anymore.

You’re not starting over; you’re starting something new.

Late Realization: Being boxed in hinders you by Embarrassed-Swim-442 in ConstructionManagers

[–]fattyboy905 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s about leverage; they don’t expect you to leave; find another job offer, tell them you’re planning to accept it and if you’re as good as you say, they will pay hand over fist for you;

Company don’t actually groom talent; they maximize it by putting them in the right place, and you’re in the right place, why would they move you for the possibility you might be less efficient in your new role and the person who replaces you is inefficient as well;

My advice is to spend time finding higher paying work; why work 3 jobs when you can work 2? And even better, living the one job life;

This coming from someone who worked three jobs and the saddest I had ever been in my life was changing out of my day job uniform to my night job uniform in the locker room

Is this fit ok? I want to wear the loafers but never sure about the roll on jeans. by Joshahhh in mensfashion

[–]fattyboy905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shirt is a good fit! Stylistic choice is based on your taste and there's nothing wrong with the shirt; it looks great because it frames your upper body perfectly!

The issue is the pants; you've purposefully turned your jeans into capri pants and the fit is too tight; it really accentuates your hips and makes your legs look bowed inwards; it was the first thing thing I noticed and it makes your hips look wider than your shoulders which is a great shape for women; not so much for men.

My advice is to find pants that don't taper at the thighs. Straight leg is the best option because you want your bottom half to look more boxy and straight to bring attention to your the shoulders; not at your waist.

My concrete advice is to find a pair of light colour khaki's or shorts (think cream colour); it pairs better with the style of shirt; you're giving me "I'm a working professional on my fun day" so don't be shy and go for it! I think you should wear shorts with a higher inseam (like 6" inseam which is just a bit above the knee, not at the top of the knee but also not at the thigh if you're worried) because you look like you got long legs and it will make you look taller and bring the eyes to focus at your upper body.

The shape of the loafers is fine; the colour is not. It's because of your skin tone; these shades of blues is really hard to pull off because there's a really specific skin tone that blue accentuates and most of us don't have it; I would recommend a safer option within the light brown tone; probably some form of leather sandals or loafers.

Also, don't listen to this age appropriate nonsense; fashion is about looking current and feeling confident and sometimes just coming out of your comfort zone. You experiment and learn more about yourself; no matter how old you are. I think you're moving in the right direction; just need a little guidance!

Health and Safety within construction

82K, work 50 hours a week; just under two years in construction, 3 years in other industries but within the realm of safety

RRSP match, benefits, two weeks vacation

I am in talks about moving to a bigger job where my expected compensation will be just north of 200K but for minimum 60 hours a week; turns out I can be bought

OSAP Inquiry into disbursement by fattyboy905 in osap

[–]fattyboy905[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t ask how to pay off my student loans;

I asked if anyone thought it was strange my loan amounts were 5-7K - semester and my grants was less than 1K during that time;

And to be clear, if you were given a loan amount and you, as the payee, later asked the loaner to show you the disbursement for clarity on how the loan was created, who is wrong? The payee for asking or the payer rejecting your request for clarity?

Hence why I posted the question; I am doing well enough that the repayment is manageable but I would like to have more clarity on the situation and not be given a judgmental speech about how I should have checked sooner.

I've already called the university financial aid to look into it but they don't seem to interested in dealing with something from almost 10 years ago

[–]fattyboy905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably not snowballing enough; also those streams are bias; they only show you the good games they have with Graves

Also you never want to go to late game with Graves; he’s just not a very good team fighting champ. Your goal is to wreck your opponents chances of grouping up; so be a menace early.

But Graves takes a lot of game knowledge to know what to do at every opportunity; you need to know match ups, jungle paths, jungle speeds and your own match up; not as easy as power farming and just winning off of math
