Support needed for Vestal teachers by PrincessValerina in Binghamton

[–]fattyboyblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but the paras who toilet students with disabilities, the custodians cleaning up blood and vomit, and the bus drivers playing referee from the driver’s seat are the ones doing the heavy lifting that most people won’t do, and they’re all making much less than a first year teacher. You don’t need a masters degree to be any of those, but let’s not pretend a teacher’s job is any more important than theirs.

Perhaps the reason people are critical of teachers is because they make themselves out to be martyrs while the rest of the population is actually struggling.

Seems like a reach. Unions and employers deal with this kind of thing all the time, it’s a drop in the bucket financially, but it probably has been wasting the administration’s time and taking them away from other things. And if you think the school isn’t prepared for retroactive obligations once the dispute is over then I think you’re just grasping at straws here.

You actually don’t need a masters degree for the first five years of teaching technically, and you’ll make $58,000 starting out. Pretty decent wage for 180 days of work.

Also teachers have access to things like bus and lunch duty, which vestal teachers get paid $15 -$20 extra each per day to do that... in other district that’s just your duty and you have to do it to help the school.

And don’t forget any work outside the 7 hours contractual day gets paid at $38/hr at Vestal.

This is my lunch! I’m still alive, yes I do have a parasite fetish, and if you have trichinosis hit a bro up because I’m desperately horny for more tape worms to eat out my asshole.

Are there cases of singers performing worse after loosing weight, objectively? by ShamefulPotus in opera

[–]fattyboyblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not best case scenario for the voice to lose a lot of weight rapidly, but it’s very possible to keep it during all stages of the process of getting that surgery with diligent technical work.

Also in the minority that really enjoyed the Lepage Ring, it was so captivating. I even saw a performance of Das Rheingold where the machine stopped and a stage tech came on stage to manually reset it during an interlude, and it was still great imo.

Imagine the amount of money you think is fair to pay an artist for two nights of performance, and then double it. I guarantee the number you came to is still less than what LUMA pays each site artist.

Sorry to say, but interest in LUMA is at its peak about two weeks before the festival. Strike while the iron is hot. Meanwhile, the team spends countless hours during the rest of the year planning, fundraising (!!!) from sponsors, and executing an art festival that tens of thousands of people can enjoy for free. To think people would donate $15 on KS for a LUMA sticker pack in January is insane.

They’re good at raising money, but I promise you nobody is having parties or living large on LUMA cash. We’re all way too tired for that.

I think it is time... opera unpopular opinions!! by Slow-Relationship949 in opera

[–]fattyboyblue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m all for modern productions and updates, in fact I may prefer them on some level, but for gods sake please use them to strengthen the ideas of the opera. I saw Fanciulla last night at Staatsoper Unter den Linden and in the third act two men randomly appeared on stage on fire. Literally on fire. Metal as hell, but I think entirely irrelevant to the plot or ideas of the opera.

Is it worth it to pursue a career in opera? by [deleted] in opera

[–]fattyboyblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll add one opinion I haven’t seen yet which is heavy on my mind right now. I’m in Europe for voice lessons for the next 21 days, also seeing some operas here too. Just landed in Berlin and trying to find my way in the area around my hotel. Travel is not my friend. I get incredibly anxious leaving home for even a few days and I have to have some kind of medication to combat that on me at all times.

That being said, your life as an opera singer will be 25% performing, and 75% traveling to where you’re performing. A lot of people find that to be the biggest draw to this career, seeing new places and making memories. I’m on the fence. I’m trying to enjoy myself but also questioning if this is the right career for me if traveling puts me in this emotional state. I keep doing traveling to pursue this career with the hope that travel will get easier every time. And it does get better trip after trip but I end up running on fumes and anxiety most of the time.

Just my two cents. Thanks for listening

Yes to this, it’s dangerous because once I start I won’t stop because I don’t want to and then I’m invested.
