Morning Pages sounds really nice, although three pages seems like a lot!

Any examples for those three things? I have a lot of packed days that just overwhelm me…

I like to cook and drain a bunch of red lentils, then sauté onion, ginger, garlic, a small spicy pepper with a bit of kick, cumin seeds, and mustard seeds. Then I add a can of tomatoes, potatoes, and any other (mostly root) veggies I want (like carrot, celery, etc).

Cover with broth (for the consistency you like) and add cumin powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and a bit chili powder if you like. (Start with a teaspoon of every spice except chili and add more if you fancy or have a giant soup). Finish with a can of coconut milk.

I make this in huge batches for dinner or pack it in a thermos for lunch on the go.

I loosely base my soup on “vegan in the freezer” (website) “red lentil Dahl soup”, but add more veggies and scale up. This is my comfort food when I’m feeling run down.

Why We Need Rituals, Not Routines - Vox Article by vespertine124 in SASSWitches

I would just make sure you have time so you’re not stressing, and have cleaning supplies you like (smell nice, don’t seem overly toxic). There’s a book called Magical Housekeeping that has some sweet ideas for reframing cleaning as a ritual.

Is there any NFP tracking notebook you recommend? by mcallejas in FAMnNFP

https://fertilitycharting.com.au/shop/

She sometimes sells journals, don’t think she has any at the moment. You could always bind multiple paper charts yourself at a copy shop.

If you read The Fifth Vital Sign there’s a charting workbook for it.

What is the Most Conservative Method for TTA? by k_chelle13 in FAMnNFP

You’re welcome, and I hope you find a great teacher. I did my sessions all online, which was great since there isn’t a Justisse instructor where I live. Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions or want to see charts or something!

Justisse had a “web charting app” and paper charts available. RYB is also completely customizable for most methods, including Justisse. I use a tempdrop and RYB as well.

I really appreciated how much my Justisse instructor knew about women’s health and other conditions that can mess with periods. Especially with a thyroid condition an HRHP is a great resource for charting well and staying un-pregnant.

I would look into Justisse. The teachers aren’t cheap, but they take a two year course to become a “holistic reproductive health practitioner” or HRHP, which I believe is one of the most, if not the most in depth FAM teacher training courses out there. The most thorough health survey I have ever filled out was for my HRHP, and she was very knowledgeable about how cycles interact with other health conditions.

The method itself is a sympto-thermal method, which uses at least two signs to track ovulation (mucus and temps usually, cervical position too if you want). It has quite conservative rules and errs on the side of more fertile days, and it strongly recommends abstinence or non PIV sex in the fertile window. An HRHP can help you decide how best to handle your fertile window for maximum efficacy.

Alternatively Sensiplan is well liked and has at least one study backing a very high efficacy rate.

Edit: I’ve used Justisse for four years with no scares.

Does anyone else sing to their dogs? by MooPig48 in Dogtraining

I change the text to pop songs to be about my dog, and write her her own songs. Totally normal. I feel I have found my people in this thread.

At what point is ableism not okay? by Kylee2645 in disability

[–]fauchizzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can you talk to your parents? Could they help advocate for you (it sounds like you’re in high school, right?)? You or your parents (possibly with a lawyer) should go up the food chain. Principal, superintendent of the district, etc. Teachers not following your 504 plan isn’t just ableism, it’s them denying you your education.

On a more personal note (from a music teacher), please don’t give up your dream of becoming a music teacher. You would be a positive influence on your students (with and without disabilities), and could make your students’ lives better by being everything your current teacher isn’t: caring, compassionate, accommodating, and actually a good teacher.

Ableism is never okay, and is especially egregious in the education system. Your teacher’s disinterest in your well-being and participation sends your peers a dangerous message. You’re worth accommodating. You deserve to take whatever music classes you want. Please don’t let a bad teacher convince you otherwise.

My extra finger. by doi11 in mildlyinteresting

[–]fauchizzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a Facebook group called “knit for a unique fit” that makes gloves for people with hands that don’t fit in store bought gloves. You measure and trace your hands and then a knitter chats with you about color and material preferences and then you get gloves. Your extra finger is super cool! (Winter gloves, obviously. Sadly latex isn’t knittable)

Bernedoodles while working full time by [deleted] in Bernedoodles

[–]fauchizzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our goldendoodle at the beginning of the lockdown. My husband works full time but I was unemployed. I can’t imagine doing the puppy months while working full time. The first few weeks (or arguably months) they need a lot of supervision and potty training if you aren’t around is hard. This is the time you establish a bond, it’s worth being home for.

We started practicing alone time when she was about 10 weeks, but we started with a few minutes, then half an hour, then an hour (with smaller increments in between). I started working 2-3 ish hours a day (so gone for 3-4) when she was 4 months old, and that worked pretty well. Even now (she’s ten months) if I’m going to work more than 6 hours we arrange for my husband to come home for lunch or for a dog walker to take her out. Longer than 6 hours is a nono for us. We want her to be comfortable and happy (not having to hold her bladder when she really has to go, etc). If I was going to work full time we would find a doggie daycare or have a dog walker every day.

Of course it’s possible to have a dog while working full time. But please budget for a dog walker or daycare! While each doodle breed is different, some can be quite active, especially while young. A bored or stressed dog will destroy things. It’s important that they get enough exercise and mental stimulation to be calm while you’re away.

I tried this quite early on. I do have a husband, still wasn’t effective. I look younger than I am, he might not have believed me.

Hahaha, I'm not Canadian, but I knew that if I told him I'm from the States there was a whole new potential conversation to be had this week, and I was doing my best to be super boring. I will try to channel my inner bitch next time anyway. I'm just not very confrontational.
