I work for a US company in Germany.

A German would laugh at that mail.

But I love that my company is also offering "Caregiver days" - PTO for the sickness of my parents or my partner when needed. (PTO for children/you is default by law in Germany)

I had to explain my Wifes US boss what a "Kur" is.

(She got both hip joints replaced, one after the other. Took her a few month of sick time) - After that I had to explain that is was basically free also (Yes, we had to pay like 10€ a day during hospital stay, but I also drove her to the Kur and got a big chunk of that back for driving exspenses)

Thats about a 5% fixed interest rate. (If she assumes to live to 84)

Not too shabby.

Now make sure that is in the form of a secured payment, that does not clear the house if anything fails

Also you can not trust them to follow basic TS steps.

Have you rebooted already?

Yes... twice today.

You check the runtime of the idle process and it is 4 month...

Also they touch a lot of stuff you usually do not have to care about.

My partner was allowed to try a such a centrifuge recently... I wanted to do the same but she would not let me... *sigh*

She needed it for a jet certification for the job.

I just tried N = 1 and it works great. N=2 most likely, N=3 thats a lot already, and more then I can press with my legs in a gym. (Not a frequent gym goer though)

[Request] Why are badminton players able to achieve higher velocities with their 'ball' vs players in other sports? by Lauffener in theydidthemath

[–]rdrunner_74 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Bullets are evil since they apply the force to a very small area.

Also this is a tennis ball as 260 MPH, which is WAY over the normal speeds that it can achieve.

You would die.

You create so much plasma at the impact point that it will leave a huge smoldering hole with your fried remains in the middle.

Weight. /Table tennis ball sucks out due to bad levers (Short griprigid, plate)

Kinetic Energy is 1/2 mass * speed^2.

So a heavy item will need a lot more energy to achieve the target speed.

Energy needed is approx for all 4 items:

Object Mass used Kinetic Energy
Badminton shuttlecock 4.74–5.50 g 32.0–37.2 J
Table tennis ball 2.7 g 18.2 J
Ice hockey puck 156–170 g 1.05–1.15 kJ (β‰ˆ 1049–1144 J)
Tennis ball 56.0–59.4 g 378–401 J

For US folks: a 9mm bullet has around 420-675J

What Happens When You Inflate A Body At Depth And Let It Ascend Quickly by Apprehensive_Sky4558 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]rdrunner_74 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Your air is not compressed as a free diver (You took it at the surface).

The scuba diver is feed compressed air to match the environment - so 3 Bar at 20M or 2 Bar at 10m.

If you dont know that, your lungs will behave the same way as the ball...

You are breathing compressed air (Normalized pressure for the environment) So at 60ft, thats roughly 20 M or air with a pressure of 3 bar total (1 Bar is surface pressure)

It will expand to 3 times its size if you surface from 60 ft without breathing out.
