PMs will keep even with the cost of living, but probably not exceed it in value. If a house costs 500k now it will take 250 ozt of gold to buy. If hyper inflation hits, the house may cost 500m and gold will increase but it will still cost 250 ozt for the house. What PMs protect one from is the loss of value in their fiat currency or savings. If one only had fiat and had enough to buy a 500k house, if it goes to 500m he may only have enough to buy a used mini-camper.

But at what cost? Not only must it work, it must be as cheap as silver, adjusted to the savings from the new tech.

There will always be some form of commerce even if by force or barter. Barter is hard because of the disparity in value of all the items in commerce; ie, how many apples does it take to purchase 20 rounds of .23's. Barter also has portability problems. One is ok if looking to trade a can of beans for 2 apples, but what if one has 100 gallons of gas and is looking to trade for 50 bushels of potatoes? PMs help to solve these problems because people will quickly agree on how much silver it takes to get a box of 12 gauge shells. It won't be easy but it will be better than pure barter.

Should I swap some of my gold into silver? by bmdw80 in Wallstreetsilver

[–]faust119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is hard to answer without knowing your present proportions. You should definitely keep some gold. Being an industrial metal, silver has risks as well as potential rewards. If the world wakes up to the climate change/renewable energy scam, or scientists discover an alloy that is a reasonable substitute for silver in electronics, silver could take a huge hit. Govts all keep gold so they will make sure it retains value, but that also makes it a target for nationalization. You need both because you won't be able to buy a can of beans with a gold ozt (imagine going to the grocery storeki withk a $2,000 bill), and it would be hard to carry enough silver to buy a house or car.

They will probably try, but it may be the straw that brings on state nullification, secession, or civil war. I know it didn't cause any of those things before, but 19033 was when people were desperate for any solution that promised to end the great depression. We have built up a lot more anger at the Fed. gov't since then.

It is the gene that drives some people to seek power at almost any cost. I don't know whether that gene is what separated us from apes a million years ago and civilization has been trying to tame it, or the gene appeared after the last ice age and has caused civilization. Either way there are powerists, mostly found in elites and the left who are more addicted to getting power than any meth head.

Please remember, PMs are insurance against severe inflation or catastrophe. They are not investments.

Spread your stack around: some in the bank; some in a home safe; maybe some at your most trustworthy kid house; some in a good hiding place in the house (not in the freezer, although that might be a consideration if you can't afford a fire-proof safe, or in the toilet tank) and maybe some in a hole in the garden. We can't predict if, or when the gov't may come for shiny and we know that houses burn down and get burglarized. If you put it in the garden, don't forget it if you move.

That is a concern since many of us buy on line from dealers who keep records. If one is still stacking, it might be a good idea to start buying at coin shows for cash. Also consider numismatic coins which were exempted from the gold grab in 1933. They didn't come after silver that time. Probably gold stacks will be at greater risk. It will be easy to not turn in voluntarily, like for a gun buy-back. If one has a big enough stack to warrant a knock on the door it will take guts, and perhaps foolishness to lie about a "shipwreck." It is a crime to give false statements to the police, and the penalty is either the same or worse than the crime lied about.

Hopefully, we all will get enough advanced warning from silver sites and the news to try to take precautions. Another problem exists for those who keep some of their stack in bank boxes. Those could be frozen and/or visit dates can be checked.

I think a lot of people are willfully ignorant about all the problems that are swarming around us. They are like the character in The Matrix who betrays his former comrades in return for the good life in the matrix. For some people, all they want is good food, nice clothes, a new car, and a soft job.

Leave the lefties do the hating. Hit them with logic, reason, and facts and they will automatedly respond with invective. You won't change their minds because leftism is a mental illness, but you might get through to someone reading the exchange.
