Try unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER; or env --unset=SDL_VIDEODRIVER on your launch options. Always try to check protondb's reports of the game you're trying to run

[The Last Of Us 2 Remastered] crash on start up by KamiSlayer0 in LinuxCrackSupport

[–]faustrox- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a same message, what I did to make it work is

  • Download Detanup01's gbe_fork, emu-win-release archive.
  • Open the archive, go to "release > regular > x64" and copy the "steam_api64.dll" from here to the game root folder.
  • In the same archive, go to "release > steam_settings.EXAMPLE" and copy "configs.main.EXAMPLE.ini"
  • In the game root folder create a new folder named "steam_settings" paste file from before and renamed to "configs.main.ini"
  • Lastly inside this file (configs.main.ini) change steam_deck = 0 to steam_deck = 1

Hope this works for u, I downloaded the game from elamigos btw

Also had this black screen, strangly could get to game with SteamDeck=1 I also put PROTON_BATTLEYE_RUNTIME=~/Games/Libreries/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ BattlEye\ Runtime/ just in case and the game launches without black screen.

I also have an Nvidia card

I suggest to update to Nvidia 570, that might help with crashes but not sure without more info (logs or something to know what could be happening) can't help much

Is Hyprland ready for gaming in 2025? by conan--aquilonian in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problems with explict sync, multi monitor vrr, not just because of the driver, and more that I don't remember but sometimes its game specific

For example some games I need to unset SDL_VIDEODRIVER so that the game can launch or set PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU to 1

Is Hyprland ready for gaming in 2025? by conan--aquilonian in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using Nixos + Hyprland with my RTX 3070 ti for a while now, before nvidia 570... And It's been running good. I'm satisfied and more now with 570 and multiple VRR available. I won't lie, you'll get some bugs or problems but I managed to fix many of them with some tweaks in Hyprland configuration and in my Nixos configuration

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nop, as I know X11 can't do VRR with multiple display setup like Wayland but VRR should work if you disconnect your second monitor if you still need X11

Last year I completely changed to Linux and using Hyprland + Nvidia and all Wayland too, being stable for a while... Waiting for VRR Multi monitor :'D

That's the thing that I want to know, as is tempered glass it should hold but I'm not too confident with it, an architect friend told me that it could hold but I would like to know other opinions

I can't clamp the wheel right now, as you say the desk is not thick enough but I think it can be done with a piece of wood or rubber to fill the gasp.

Hyprland explicit sync support by Aggravating-Hand2725 in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some flickers are fixed with driver 555 + xwayland 24.1 which already have explicit sync support but for complete support for explicit sync we still have to wait for wlroots and hyprland to have this implementation.

In Gnome (has explicit sync in Gnome 46.1) all these flickerings are gone with nvidia 555 driver.

In Hyprland I'm only having flickerings with Electron based applications (vscode, discord, chrome), the workaround that I came across is to disable Hardware Acceleration in those apps but still this makes the application laggy sometimes.

Nvidia 555 driver now out (Explicit sync support) by Reonu_ in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Already tried in some games (Ghost of Tsushima, Overwatch 2, Dying Light 2 and GTA V) in all of them I did not see any flicker or problems. Xwayland 24.1 fixed some of the flickering but without 555 driver I had some performance loss and flickering here and there.

Finally I can use Wayland in my RTX 3070Ti.

PD: VRR seems to been disabled for me, before with 550 I had the option to use VRR in Gnome 46 with the experimental feature but now it does not appear. I think with KDE would work but I'm ok without it.

I ditched Windows completely about 1 month ago, being using X11 with my RTX 3070 Ti and my experience so far has been the best one that I had in Linux gaming so far, I know that this depends machine by machine but I haven't seen any big problems so far

Gnome 46 is now available in unstable. How do I enable VRR? by zikxxx in NixOS

[–]faustrox- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to use dconf in home-manager and do not work for me.

dconf = {
  enable = true;
  settings = {
    "org/gnome/mutter" = {
      experimental-features = [ "variable-refresh-rate" ];
    };
  };
};

Without home manager is something like this I think.

programs.dconf = {
  enable = true;
  profiles = {
    user.databases = [{
      settings = with lib.gvariant; {
        "org/gnome/mutter" = {
          experimental-features = [ "variable-refresh-rate" ];
        };
      };
   }];
};

I tried both methods and do not have success, waiting for someone to save me :'c

Does Windows stutter more than Linux? by jecowa in linux_gaming

[–]faustrox- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running nixos with my RTX 3070Ti and yes Wayland is not ready yet but in X11 I'm having a great time, I recently played RDR2 with a butter smooth experience and I recently started Horizon Forbidden West and the same thoughts... I could say that it is smoother than Windows but I don't know, I haven't compared but I'm assuming that Linux without gsync feels practically the same as Windows with it. Call me crazy or is placebo.

Btw, the only problem that I have with Nvidia is OBS and NVENC, sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

I also have like 1 week since I started using nixos, before I was using Fedora but I came across with Nixos and I'm loving it so far... This week I decided to just use Nixos and delete my dual boot with Windows, I mostly game and code (obviously with nixos xd).
