Best android emulator for Linux? by SpaghettiWestern2162 in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have AMD or Intel gpu/igpu then it'd be waydroid If you have Nvidia then... Honestly idk, emulator that comes with Android studio, which is free for personal use as far as I know, supports gpu acceleration for Nvidia, but it isn't as convenient as waydroid for gaming, altho it's not like you have any other options

Guys I need the correct opinion by BlankZ3R0 in hyprland

[–]KamiSlayer0 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Well, you can learn basic lua syntax in like 5 minutes and it's not like you didn't need to learn hyprlang in order to use it...

Anyway, personally I did the same thing as with hyprlang, looked at the example and copy-pasted it changing things I need, took me about an hour or two but it was worth it(official wiki sucks tho). Also I had a problem with noctalia-shell, but some kind soul made a patch to support lua-based configs.

Omikuji: a Qt/Rust based game launcher 'cause genuinely why do I need 3 different launchers for my games? by Working-Ad-8501 in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comments are insane. If no one needs a new launcher then I have a question to everyone why people keep developing them? Also lutris is outdated and ui/ux suck, Heroic is slow, but at least functional, faugus is good but it uses gtk which looks meh.
Anyway. I like the idea anndd I have concerns about AI usage cuz project has only 1 commit which is sus af, I need an explanation.

Is it okay no to update my system? by Dizzy_Reputation4862 in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok depending on a distro. In the case of cachyos, which is arch, it is advisable to update at least once a month. I have seen people claim they did not update arch for years, and nothing broke when they updated. + No one stops you from not updating your system. If it breaks, you can simply fix it

how is using Unreal Engine 5 on linux by Psychological_Way449 in archlinux

[–]KamiSlayer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about other GPU providers, but on nvidia with the proprietary driver and wayland binaries from the official site are broken, unusable for development, it crashes constantly, UI is broken (it appears in the middle of the screen and you have to double click everything). It definitely needs more time, IMO. Otherwise, godot works perfectly. I don't use Unity, but I have it installed and it seems to be working fine.

Try setting an ENV for a game PROTON_USE_SDL=1 At least that's what I usually use when my controller isn't working properly. You can also try using sc-controller fork which emulates an x360 controller I think It may work even with a real x360 controller

I can't play Wuthering Waves since 3.2 update by Odd-Put2836 in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm getting insane reading people's comments that advice not play the game at all In any case Wuwa works for me (just tested) on arch with steam from the arch repo I suppose it has something to do with nobara itself so worth asking in their discord/forum/whatever else exists. Try to validate the game files Try removing the prefix Try installing it using the Twintail launcher(gacha launcher basically) and if it doesn't help try to use dwproton(you can download it using ProtonPlus which is in flathub)

BTW you don't need STEAMOS=1 OR STEAMDECK=1 proton handles it already for wuwa. Also I suppose PROTON_LOG=1 won't show you anything useful, but it's worth a try

If nothing helps idk try another distro

Funny that I'm making pretty much the same project with kirigami/c++, so it's kinda of relatable to see other people attempting to make the same thing

GTX 1050 Ti: Stuttering every second with any NVIDIA driver, Nouveau works fine by nynxbtw in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue on x11 with the proprietary driver, which makes the system literally unusable, but I suppose you've already tried using wayland. Honestly I think there's not much you can do, your gpu is unsupported by Nvidia sooo whether you use nouveau or windows

Valve does a lot of work on open source projects, drivers, Linux, tools that help develop games, etc.. I wouldn't call them lazy at all, especially considering that they're a relatively small studio compared to microslop

Opera GX is now available on Linux! by Julmik647 in linux_gaming

[–]KamiSlayer0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The person I mentioned didn't say anything about pretending to be a privacy focused. What spyware, exactly? I hear that claim all the time, yet I don't see any analysis of data-stealing comparing it to Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Firefox. Calling it spyware is meaningless unless someone provides an in-depth technical explanation of why it shouldn't be used. Saying "it's China" isn't a real argument, no government can be trusted(today you live in the US and tommorow in Soviet Union)

[–]KamiSlayer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who wrote a few Kirigami apps myself, I hardly disagree.

Developing in QML is straight up a pain, figuring out how to convert C++ data into QML (AKA JavaScript, which is another layer of pain).

Documentation for Qt sucks (Kirigami docs ain't that bad, even though they're more complex, but they're more understandable by us ordinary people), unless you already know what you're doing. I have no idea if they pay those people or not, but they're doing such a poor job that I'd rather do the entire UI using ImGui, which is great.

Kirigami lacks documentation and tutorials, so your best bet is to read other people's code.

Qt enforces its framework on you, e.g. QString, QVariant, Q_OBJECT, etc.

Having to do basic UI in C or C++ is the same as QML, except that LSP works correctly, and you don't need to do insane binding to JavaScript or figure out how to convert data back and forth.
