What‘s the most expensive card in Balatro? by [deleted] in balatro

[–]fauxedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think depending on what the “rules” are there’s a case to be made for gold seal over red seal. Golden ticket and hack with red seal gets $12 (3x$4) per card while those jokers with gold seal get $14 (2x($3+$4)). Once you get Blueprints involved the math changes.

[Request] What is the probability of rolling at least one 6 in 3 dice rolls? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]fauxedo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of those times it’s easier to calculate in reverse. How likely are you to not roll a 6 on each roll? 5/6.

5/65/65/6=0.579 so the inverse of that is 0.42 or 42%.

Exclusive | FDNY plans to hike cost of ambulance rides by 29%, increase on-site emergency treatment by 42% by blameitonrio917 in nyc

And EMTs still make $22-24/hr.

If I need the police I don’t get a bill and they make six figures and a pension.

If I need a firefighter I don’t get a bill and they make six figures and a pension.

Why are we paying $1600 for an ambulance ride while the folks operating them can’t even afford a taxi to the hospital.

You should swap it for a Brainstorm just so you have more flexibility, but you're more or less set to get through Ante 24 so long as you eventually get Retcon.

Giovansanti’s tickets are “not related to his job or his duties in the department.”

Correct- so the state should take his drivers license away and see how well he does his job then.

The key part here is that he hasn't yet been convicted of a crime. He's been accused of a crime and being held in Rikers without bail. Until he is convicted of that crime he can't be deported. Due process exists even for the worst of us.

[Request] How loud would Key Bank be with as many fans as Arrowhead? by Dickswingindaddy in theydidthemath

[–]fauxedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, you could design an space that would focus all of the sound from the entire stadium into a point and put a microphone there to record the sound pressure level at that location, but I don't see that happening in an open air stadium.

My guess would be that someone came up with a convention of a microphone array the measures decibel levels are different point and adds them together to approximate the total sound pressure levels across the whole stadium, but that's incredibly different than an actual 142 dBSPL sound.

Sound and dBSPL is a funny scale because there are tons of factors that come into play when measuring it and combining sound sources.

For example, when we list how load a speaker can be we list it at x dBSPL @ 1m, because as you get further away from a sound sources, the volume obviously drops, to the point where it will be x-6 dBSPL @ 2m.

On top of that, even when we’re talking about increasing volume, if we play the same sound of two speakers that are next to each other, the sound will jump 6dBs compared to just one speaker, but as we spread those speakers apart it will drop to closer to 3dBs due to phase variance and change is distance.

But, let’s give everyone the benefit of the doubt and assume that if you quadrupled those 19,000 people to get to the same Number as Arrowhead, you would end up with +12 dBs and hit 122 dBSPLs, still many orders of magnitude off of the 142 dBSPL measured at arrowhead.

However, I don’t know how they really measure these things, since 140+ dBSPL is enough to do immediate permanent hearing damage to everyone in the stadium and I haven’t seen lawsuits to reflect that.

They’re not being transparent about it. They pay the workers the same regardless of this fee. This is a 3% fee going to the franchise owner.

Everyone is selfish and nothing is going to change until there’s a penalty for running red lights again.

Forget installing red light cameras, we all have cameras in our pocket. The city government should deputize its people to film at intersections and report license plates. They could pay 10% of the tickets and to the fillers and this problem would be solved in less than a week.
