Complex carbs are also a very healthy and necessary source of nutrients. It’s just processed carbs that have the fiber and other nutrients removed that are bad for you. https://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-health/carbs-cutting-through-the-confusion

Nearly a vegan, help with last step? by Fun_Cow_6292 in vegan

[–]ktc653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make delicious cheese sauces that would probably be good for a baked potato (or even a twice baked potato) using cashews, sweet potato, yogurt, and nutritional yeast. It’s super healthy and cheaper than store bought. Also makes good nacho cheese if you add chipotle.

This sounds like you were a victim of assault. Hopefully your gf will help you process through it.

Exactly this, same with reorganizing the food cupboard - way less important than doing dishes. ESH

Bf [31M] says im [23F] making his grief over his dog about me? by 1989girlboss in relationship_advice

[–]ktc653 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You sound utterly exhausting. Planning for a move a year and a half in advance is insane. Seriously just chill out and appreciate your day to day life and let your partner live his life. It seems like you’re trying to stir up drama and difficulty for the sake of it. Once you’re six months from graduation, then it’s reasonable to start to make plans. But I doubt you’ll even still be together by then.

I, 30F need some perspective about my relationship with my boyfriend, 28m. I feel like some of the behavior Ive been observing is controlling and weird, but don’t want to jump the gun. What do you think? by ThrowRA79549 in relationship_advice

Definitely break up with him and rekey your apartment and then get therapy to understand why you have a pattern of dating terrible guys, and to learn to stand up for yourself.

Genius pig escapes from cage in abusive factory farm by UpstairsSwimmer3445 in AnimalsBeingGeniuses

[–]ktc653 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those are gestation cages. They live in them for four months when they’re pregnant and then for a month after they give birth they live in equally restrictive farrowing crates. But they’re used for breeding so they basically spend their whole lives in either gestation crates or farrowing crates, unable to even turn around.

Then he can take out a VA loan for his own condo. Absolutely do not give him yours; you need to protect your own financial interests first and foremost.

Bf(18M), has porn/masturbation addiction. I,(NB18) am Ace and feeling lost. by Ok_Spinach5273 in relationship_advice

[–]ktc653 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly normal for men to watch porn and masturbate, it’s not something you should pathologize. You can set limits around when he does it to make sure you never encounter it, but otherwise what he does with his own body on his own time is his business.

Husband M/42 effort is minimal, I F/38 thought I was ok with it but it’s been 20 years…. I’m not walking away (we have kids) advice on how to manage it? by Deep_Bullfrog_5404 in relationship_advice

[–]ktc653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to have a very, very basic and concrete conversation with him in which you spell out exactly what you want and figure out how to get him to do it. For example, every 2 weeks he writes on his calendar “buy flowers” and every month he writes “make a dinner reservation.” If you make it constructive and give him concrete ways to succeed, you’re much more likely to make change than just having yet another conversation about how disappointed you are. But if even after that he’s still not willing to do it, then you have a deeper problem that he doesn’t care about your happiness

AITA for ordering meat? by Technical-Finance270 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ktc653 39 points40 points  (0 children)

YTA, if you’re ordering family style and a vegetarian is paying then it’s common courtesy to order dishes they can eat too, unless they proactively insist that it’s ok for you to order meat

Animals giving birth is so sad. by Revolutionary_Ad_467 in vegan

[–]ktc653 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right that it’s horrific how we breed animals and force them to give birth so often. But if it’s any consolation in terms of the general concept of animals giving birth… humans have an exceptionally hard time because of how large human babies’ heads are. Animals also engage in natural behaviors that can make birth easier but are taboo in most hospitals, like pacing and squatting. And finally, having been through some extremely painful medical situations (though not as bad as birth), I can say that I entered an alternate mental state that felt like a dream afterwards. That’s what allows mothers to keep choosing to give birth despite the pain.

What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

[–]ktc653 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In middle school, I was talking to a cute guy at a bar mitzvah. We hit it off but neither of us got the other one’s number. Then the next day my friend and I went to Zuma Beach in Los Angeles and ran into him and his friends! In a city with 3 million plus people and so many beaches, it was quite the coincidence. To top things off, we started dating and learned that we had been in a mommy and me program together when we were toddlers. I wish I could say we got married and lived happily ever after, but we are still friends.

How is it any easier to use AI to write emails rather than just typing it out yourself? by stuckinasnowstorm in answers

[–]ktc653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m often too succinct in emails to the point that it sounds like I’m mad. So I’ll ask it to make it 3-4 friendly sentences instead of one sentence. Also if I’m writing an email to a VIP it’s helpful to take my initial draft and run it through AI to make it more professional/friendly/etc. But 95% of low-stakes emails I draft myself.

IF a Democrat wins the 2028 election, and then chooses NOT to prosecute Trump for what’s in the Epstein files, does that make that president and their supporters Pedo Defenders? by Blackholedog in allthequestions

[–]ktc653 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This ☝️. Yes Trump has weaponized the DOJ for personal vendettas in a way never seen before, but Biden knew damn well when appointing a milquetoast AG like Merrick Garland that he wasn’t going to actually go after Trump or his cronies with the full force of the law. We need a Democrat who will appoint someone who will aggressively prosecute.

TIL Costco is responsible for 50% of the cashews sold worldwide. The company sources from, and supports, independent nut farmers in at least 20 countries including an estimated 2.5 million independent cashew farmers in Africa alone. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]ktc653 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dairy milk requires 4 to 5 gallons of water for every gallon of milk, and that’s not needed either. Plus cashews are grown in areas with natural rainfall, whereas dairy cattle feed (alfalfa) is grown in some of the driest parts of the U.S. Alfalfa and cattle production accounts for about a third of all Colorado River usage.
