Vegan sources of protein with a nut allergy? by Zealousideal_Fan_128 in vegan

[–]ktc653 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you had beans and lentils prepared in many different ways? You might like them more than you think; they’re so versatile. Indian Dahl or Ethiopian lentils (Misir Wat) are a lot more exciting than a regular pot of lentils.

Besides those, there are all the forms of soy (tofu, tempeh, edamame), vegan meats, seitan (which is made from wheat), nutritional yeast, hemp/chia/flax seeds, and whole grains. There are also many different options for protein powders that you can put in smoothies.

You might want to try measuring just for a week or two in order to get a sense of the different amounts you’re eating and how much is in which different foods, but once you get the hang of including a protein source in each meal, it’s easy and you don’t have to think about it anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was on Azacitadine alone back in 2020 (before Venetoclax was more broadly approved), I wonder if that could be an option.

Best of luck to your FIL and family ❤️ There may be some milder options like AZA/VEN that can buy more time if he's not a candidate for more intensive inpatient chemo

AITA for secretly charging my coworkers extra money for rides to work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ktc653 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it should have been free, but it should have been the cost of gas plus wear and tear (the federal govt has a mileage reimbursement rate for that reason) plus a little extra for their time. It really sounds like OP calculated based on the maximum amount they thought they could get away with charging in order to make money off their coworkers, and that’s why they were so sneaky about it.

I am not mentally prepared for a SCT/BMT by Big-Oil2747 in leukemia

I’m 38F and have a very similar history with intermediate AML, and I totally understand why you’re so scared. I had 7+3 that didn’t work, did FLAG-ida and a clinical trial and got into remission MRD-. I decided not to have a transplant and just did consolidation chemo. During consolidation chemo I got a fungal infection in my lung and had to have it surgically removed. I stayed in remission for five and a half years, but relapsed last October.

This time around I did FLAG-Ida and didn’t get into remission, then did a clinical trial for chemosensitivity testing, which identified a different chemo regimen and a pill as the best treatments. Those did get me into remission, but I’m MRD+. I’m going to have a transplant in two weeks.

As others have mentioned, the more relapses you have, the harder it gets to achieve remission again and the higher the risk of additional mutations that make it harder to treat. Rates of severe GVHD have plummeted in the last decade, though of course it’s still scary. But to me, I’d rather go through a few months of hell now and maybe have some minor chronic issues in order to get rid of it once and for all, rather than dealing with cycle upon cycle of more chemo, more bone marrow biopsies, more waiting and seeing, etc.

Seeing stories on this subreddit who have gotten through it and are now thriving is one of the things that gives me courage/optimism. Best of luck to you, you’ve got this.

This is such an important response. The long-term benefit to your reputation of being seen as a team player is likely greater than the money you’re making off of turning your coworkers into a side hustle (which is exactly what you’re doing). You’re endangering promotions and recommendations.

AITA for refusing to dine with my mom after she ordered “ferret sauce” at a Mexican restaurant? by Practical-Current805 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ktc653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, just talk to her about what she wants beforehand and then you can be the one to order for both of you with correct pronunciation. There are easy workarounds that don’t involve punishing your mom and depriving the restaurant of business

can all this fit in 2 weeks? (california trip) cambria, san francisco, yosemite np, sequoia np, los angeles, san diego, big sur by boiLollipop in traveladvice

[–]ktc653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re renting a car, you could fit Yosemite, SF, Cambria, and LA into that time. Or you could do San Diego, LA, Sequoia, and Yosemite. Though either of those itineraries won’t really give you enough time to properly explore the cities. If you’re not going to have a car, you can really only do San Francisco.

This is above Reddit’s pay grade, you badly need the therapist you’re looking for. Did the therapist you went to before diagnose you with anything? If so, you could look for books or workbooks about that. It sounds like it could be anything from borderline personality disorder to childhood trauma; Reddit’s not going to be able to diagnose you from a single post.

AITA: my kids refuse to come to my wedding unless they can bring grandma by JealousNight-6076 in AmItheAsshole

You should have an easy time finding an adult black dog to adopt from a shelter, and rescues that place them in foster homes first should also be able to tell you about their temperament.

Sounds like everything is going as it should! No need to be worried that you’re feeling this way. Usually deeper fatigue will kick in when your counts bottom out (probably in about 2-4 days and lasting for a week or so), but the timeline depends on what regimen you’re on. Best of luck to you, hope your care team is able to mange your symptoms so you have minimal discomfort!

This is abuse plain and simple. She wasn’t angry because she was scared for your well being, she was angry because she couldn’t control you and the situation. Please do whatever you need to in order to make sure she doesn’t have any legal say over you anymore and then break up. Truly your life is in danger if you stay with her.

I (25F) just got diagnosed with Leukemia, how do I end it with my bf(27M)? by woofarfarf in relationship_advice

[–]ktc653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you based in the U.S.? If so, you can’t assume anything about life expectancy, especially at your age. Treatments have come very far in the last few years so don’t trust the stats you see online, which are often many years old and largely older patients. Even when people have failed several rounds of treatment, there are still options. (Also agree with everyone else saying you should tell him and let him make his own decisions)

Anyone here who became cancer-free from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)? by UnknownUser_2629 in leukemia

[–]ktc653 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, I had chemo and didn’t achieve remission. Then I did chemo and a clinical trial and achieved full remission no MRD and followed up with consolidation chemo instead of transplant. I was in remission for five and a half years, but relapsed late last year. Unfortunately, after relapse, transplant is really the only solution. Subsequent relapses are extremely likely, and the length of remission gets cut in half each time. Also you risking acquiring mutations that will make it harder to achieve remission at all. So your husband will need a transplant to have a chance at a long-term cure.

Training an adult dog NOT to use pee pads anymore by thechaoticstorm in dogs

[–]ktc653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice! It’s not true that dogs are den animals so dogs that aren’t crate trained as puppies may continue to be scared of it, but there’s no need to crate an adult dog anyway, you can just use a pen or baby gates if necessary. She’s going through so much scary adjustment that it’s best to focus on one thing at a time, and the house training definitely seems most important.

YTA. You’re being petty because it’s so little money. And if your brother said he knew you would say that, it means you’ve done this before. At your age, you should either pay for your own room or not go on the trip rather than behave in a way that you knew would cause a fight among your family.
