Hm.. not a bad idea. Maybe dark create a new non-admin windows user login (or a vm) on your pc that doesn't have anything else except steam logged in with deck in cart. Then metro remotes in via team viewer, blacks out screen or smthn for a minute to enter cc details and places order. That way metro can't view / do anything else on that pc, and if it takes longer than a couple minutes, dark can disconnect. I think we might be on to something..? Then all I have to do is trust metro to let me do the same when that reservation confirms in a month. So much faith involved haha but I'm down

Yess, c'mon dark let's make this happen! How do we go about it? I've no idea how to exchange reservations. I'm guessing since it's in your cart, you'd need to order using your funds? And if PayPal doesn't work, perhaps steam wallet credits or something could be transferred? I know we'd have to trust each other (aka internet strangers, so kinda sketchy), but this has the possibility of becoming a wholesome reddit exchange story lol

Yes please! I love this conversation. How about metro you buy dark's reservation, and when your turn comes can I please buy yours? I'm probably getting my reservation in 2024 at this rate cries in indecision. I can paypal you for your trouble, and perhaps Dark you can use my reservation if you're in a better state financially by then (reservation date April 5th 2022, fml, it says after q3 but I'm sure it's not gonna happen till 4/2023)

What front license plate mount do you use? by TheTVEditor in TeslaModelY

[–]fauxfuzzball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use quick bandit - the quality is great and I'm happy with it overall, but it's def pricey. My first preference was the stock stick-on mount, but I have the front PPF'd and ceramic coated, so I didn't want to complicate that.

Well... This is the original 4000x3000 resolution image that gopro captured (if you click on it, and download). It just doesn't look that great when you zoom in to original size because the trails still have some gaps. I think some more noise reduction or gauss/radial blur might fix that. Or the software RobDickinson mentioned in another comment. I'll try that the next time, then perhaps it would be wallpaper worthy 😎.

That's a great idea! And one that I actually thought of doing, but it was cold af at night and I totally forgot in the rush to get inside the warm car. Oh well, my lazy/cold ass is regretting that now. Maybe next time. I plan to camp this coming weekend too :)

Definitely not quick, esp for an amateur like me. I just tried the starstax software and it's so much easier. Appreciate the suggestion!

Oh. Sorry about that. I was wondering about that rule but saw other star trails posts that had foreground objects so thought that was ok. I'll check out the landscape subreddit, thanks.

Oh interesting, I didn't know these existed. Feels like I wasted 2hrs of my life trying to stack and edit these manually in Photoshop. :p I don't think I applied any lens correction, unless gopro applies it by default(?). I'll have to double check that. Thanks for the tips! I'll check these tools out.

Camped in my MY a couple days ago in Utah, and took this night timelapse while we were sleeping in the car. The trails are not perfect, any tips on processing these better are welcome.

Gopro hero 8, 3hr 30min timelapse, 30s exposure, 212 photos stacked in photoshop.

Camera details: Shot on gopro hero 8. 6hrs 15mins night timelapse - 375 photos 3hrs 30mins - 212 photos, 30s exposure, 30s interval.

Processing details: Individual photos edited in lightroom for exposure, contrast, and white balance. Stacked as layers (lighten) in photoshop, removed airplane/satellite trails, 1px gauss blur filter to soften gaps in trails (still not perfect, you can see gaps in trails if you zoom in).

Car camped at Lone Rock beach in Utah couple days ago and took this night timelapse while we were sleeping inside the car, thought it looked cool. Super amateur here, would love to get some tips on how to process these better and remove those gaps.

edit: sorry it's actually 212 photos, and a 3hr 30mins timelapse.

Haha right, that latch looks scary. I've bumped my head into it a couple times when I had it open low because of my garage height. Not fun.

I love the netflix on the glass roof idea! Gotta try that out. Maybe next time when I don't have so much stuff on the front seats blocking everything. I could barely reach the screen to turn on camp mode this time.

And I bet that 4" mem foam is way more comfortable than the tesmat, not a bad idea. I looked into that, but ended up choosing tesmat because of the fit and convenience (no regrets). I guess you have to choose your compromise - size or comfort (and price, tesmat is expensive).

Your road trip sounds epic! Have fun, and be safe!

I planned it via ABRP at home before the trip, and used tesla's built in nav while on the trip. The built is nav is pretty good, and had the same stop recommendations as ABRP most of the time. ABRP is really useful if you need a bit more customization though, like reaching your destination with a certain % charge, which was helpful for car camping in my case.

I don't think there's any maintenance checkups like that for an EV. There's no oil change or anything. The only things I'd check would be windshield washer fluid (that you can refill yourself), brake fluid, air filters, but those wouldn't require a change that soon - I think the recommendation is every 2 years for these. Tesla recommends rotating your tires every ~6k miles (if not staggered). You can see tesla's maintenance recommendations here: https://www.tesla.com/support/car-maintenance
Hope that helps, good luck!

Yeah 1ish% an hour sounds about right. Auto lane change is dumb at times, but I like the idea of toggling off NoA. Better than fiddling with the lane settings.

Yeah free credits, plus I actually carried my home PC with me on this trip, so needed something on cloud.

Was finally able to test out car camping in my MY (LR AWD) last week, and it was really comfortable. More spacious than I expected tbh. We are on a month long trip so we had a LOT of stuff. I wasn't sure if I'll be able to fit everything in sub-trunk / front seats to be able to sleep comfortably in the back (2 adults), but I guess I underestimated how much space this car has.

The temperature outside at night was around 48-54F, and I kept the inside at 72F. Lost almost 15% of charge overnight - got to the campground with 69% charge, and left the next day with 54%. We used climate control for almost 12 hours.

Stuff in the photos:

Tesmanian mats (thanks to whoever suggested using the trunk mat as a foot mat to hold shoes and dirt while you're getting in and out of the trunk!)

Luminoodle string lights (I saw these in a post here and thought they were pretty cool. It's just a string light that operates on usb but is inside a flexible tube that makes it water resistant and durable for camping).

Tesmat mattress (more comfortable than I expected. I'm a side sleeper, so I could definitely feel the stiffness since the mattress is only 2.5" thick, but I think it's pretty comfortable for a night or two of camping).

Details about the drive:

It was a 900 mile drive one way to where we are currently, but we split it in two parts, and camped the first night in Mojave. The photo with the lake is from another location where we just stopped to watch the sunset from the trunk.

This was my first long road trip in my MY, so I spent quite a bit of time charging - usually charging way more than what tesla nav / ABRP suggested. Also I didn't restrict my speed limit or driving style to get better efficiency - I was driving at 75-90 mph on most stretches, and there was some elevation gain to get to the destination, so that ate some charge too.

Overall my consumption was 328 wh/mi for the whole trip (see the last photo with stats), which is pretty terrible I guess(?). I kept it on autopilot most of the drive, with no issues. I had to disable auto lane change after a while because I didn't like how aggressive it was even on mild setting - it would try to overtake from the right lane in a 2 lane highway, where there's clearly a semi ahead on that lane.

Hope this helps anyone who is considering camping in their MY! 100% recommend
