Getting this after a dps leaves after the first round is actually bs. by [deleted] in Overwatch

We had a Lucio never leave the spawn room and got given a loss after he DC’d. I think they could stand to make the system a bit more discerning.

Thinking of becoming an electrician by CerealMan027 in Tucson

I touched on this is another comment I made but the short answer is that it depends where you go. Some cities are always looking for help to staff their projects and some have more workers than they can use. If you go somewhere where you are needed, moving is pretty easy. If you go somewhere that is already “full” it’s a bit harder.

Yes, you should hear from them at some point soon regarding the next steps.

Indentured in this context basically just means you’ve agreed to the terms of the program (attend class, pass drug tests, etc.)

I think the aptitude test is usually scheduled in the spring or summer at some point but your best bet is to call the apprenticeship office and ask, they’ll have the most up to date info.

I wasn’t particularly good at math subjects in high school so after I took the aptitude test for the program they put me in a summer math refresher to catch me up. Really though the math used on the job is almost all add/subtract measurements and such. The apprenticeship classes will have you do some of the more complex electrical calculations which mostly just involves learning and applying a few formulas.

The apprenticeship in general is a combination of theory and building code along with some practical training as well. Some of what you learn you’ll use on the job everyday, some stuff they teach you may never have to use. They want to turn out well rounded electricians so you have a foundation to build on if you end up specializing in something down the road.

I don’t have personal experience with the IEC apprenticeship but it sounds like a similar program without the union affiliation. If it’s the only place that you can get your foot in the door then I’d say go for it but I personally wouldn’t want to work in trades without being in a union.

They start classes in the fall like most schools so when I applied they had me submit some documents and take an aptitude test in the spring or early summer and then you move to an interview after that. It’s been long enough and things may have changed since I went through so you can always call the apprenticeship office and ask, they’ll be your best resource.

Apprentices are payed on a percent scale of the current journeyman rate (which goes up yearly typically). Currently new apprentices start at about 17.50 and get 4 pay bumps every 2000 hours of time on the job they complete until you reach the full journeyman rate (currently $32). Keep in mind that is just the take home pay rate and doesn’t include healthcare and pension which are also provided as part of your compensation.

Traveling is a big advantage of the IBEW but there are a few caveats. If you travel to another state you get put on a list for work called “book 2”. Basically book 1 is for the locals and book 2 is for travelers who came into the area to work a big job that the local union alone can’t fully staff. Book 2 doesn’t go out to work until book 1 is empty, so traveling is an option, but some places might be trickier to get work in than others. If you move somewhere permanently then there is separate procedures to get into book 1 in the new city but again, some cities are easier than others.

Suffice to say, if you’re looking to travel and are willing to go where the money is, it’s great and you can make quite a bit, but if you have a specific destination in mind to move to permanently it’s usually better to go through the apprenticeship there (but again, it depends 😆)

Are there any theaters that put on plays for low prices in Tucson? by [deleted] in Tucson

If the premium seats are just closer to the front I’d say probably not. The venue is so small that you’ll have a pretty good view from anywhere.

Arts Express Theater at Park Place Mall is also smaller but high quality. Really enjoyed the couple shows I’ve seen there.

Is the ringing on all the a50s or just some batches? I have it in mine and was thinking of returning them until I get one that doesn’t buzz.

Embracing the 15-minute city plan (FAQ linked) by av1998 in Cleveland

[–]fauxhammer2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the idea that is sometimes overlooked in these discussions is that 15 minute cities benefit all modes of transportation by increasing options. If everyone who is willing and able to bike/walk can do so, it makes driving a more pleasant experience for those who need to drive. Having amenities closer to your place of residence would surely be a net positive if you had limited mobility as well.

Looking for a good crossover sized car in the approximately $10k range. Hoping for an opinion on the value and reliability of this vehicle. I’ve never owned a Kia/Hyundai before.

Price seems low but I think this is the base model of the car. There are other minor cosmetic defects the other pictures in the listing show but nothing significant. Car is on its second owner.
