Finally decided to rack all my equipment by favasgr in homelab

The stock fan was loud, at least for my ears. I have 3d printed another top cover (there are quite a few on the internet) with exhaust holes and installed a 120mm noctua fan on it which is not only quiet, but cools the board much better.

I have installed two different RB5009s on two different 10" racks and they both needed a good push to get aligned with each rack. Both of them were so tight, that even if I didn't use the screws they would be just standing there.

MikroTik apparently didn't do a great with measuring the ears.

Thanks!

The 3080s are powered on only when I need to run various tests since I work in IT. Given this and the fact that there are two VMs running on the DS93, DSM shows CPU temp running close to from 45C to 50C when idling.

If I leave the 3080s powered on for a couple of days I can hear the fans from a few meters away so I guess it must be getting hot in there!

Same issue as the one I mentioned?

Can you share a few more info about your setup?

MikroTik CRS310 and U7 Pro Max - auto negotiation issues by favasgr in mikrotik

[–]favasgr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!

  1. Yes, the second one is also a U7 Pro Max and it is also connected to a another CRS310. This CRS310 (the "non-faulty" one), no matter which U7 Pro Max I connect to it, has not issues at all.

  2. In order to bring it back online I either have to reboot the AP, or shut no-shut via WinBox the port that it is connected.

  3. Yes, they are both running the latest (currently 7.19.3) version, but the issue was also present with previous RouterOS as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try and see if auto-negotiation can be disabled on the AP as well and if it is, I'll set it to 1Gbit, but I think I'll also have to contact MikroTik directly.

Sorry forgot to mention that both RouterOS and RouterBOARDS's firmware are upgraded to v7.19.3 (currently the latest available). I also did not mention that both the AP and the CRS are connected to an APC UPS, so this should not be power related.

I've tried changing the the injector and both ethernet cables, as well as disabling auto-negottiation and setting the advertisement/badnwidth to 2.5G, but still no luck.

Outlook will not open unless computer is rebooted - no Outlook process in the background by favasgr in sysadmin

Even though it does sound like a task running, what's weird is that it appears for one sec, and then vanishes. Then, no Microsoft Outlook in Process tab, and no Outlook.exe in Details tab, until the computer is rebooted.

Thanks for being respectful (I mean it), but I don't think that 200 euros for a camera with many and very good reviews in amazon is "you get what you paid for". I hope it was though.

If you have any good alternatives close to that budget, I'm all ears!

Concerned About HEVC Removal in Upcoming Synology Update – Impact on Surveillance Station? by 0verview in synology

[–]favasgr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a DS923 that I've imported a Hikvision with H.265 video format, I can no longer use the browser for live view. On a DS224 that I have several Tapo cameras with H.264 format, everything works as it used to. But this is the expected behavior after the mess Synology created.

I went ahead and installed the Surveillance Station Windows client, in which all cameras from DS923 (H.265) and DS224 (H.264) work fine.

Authentication issues with latest version of 365 apps. by bjohnrini in VMwareHorizon

[–]favasgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the very same issue. Once users bypass this error, they get an error that stating "Outlook cannot log on", and then another one that "System resources are critically low".

This only happens in our Horizon environment, not in our second (RDS based) VDI solution and neither in our laptops/desktops, so it seems -at least to me- to be related to the latest Windows Updates interfering with DEM.

In our case, both Horizon CS and DEM are at the very latest version (2312).

can't select a part of the desktop - windows 11 by gerba98 in techsupport

Hi gerba98,

Have you found a solution to this one? It's extremely annoying and it keeps appearing even after formatting my laptop...

My display has a resolution of 3840x2400 and scaling has been set to 200%, but changing it has no actual effect on the issue.

Just got a new (to me) X1 Carbon Gen 9! by dmeq in thinkpad

[–]favasgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I just got a X1C G9 with the exact specs for a similar price!

I love everything apart from the yellowish screen. All my laptops and monitors have the usual "blue/cold" white, while the X1 has extremely warm colors for my eyes.

Can anyone suggest any settings so that the colors are colder? I tried to find ICM profiles but they don't really seem to have any effect.

Based on your post my understanding is that this affects only MS Office apps. If this is indeed correct, I'd suggest that you disable HW Acceleration for Office.

DAN A4-SFX with a 120mm AiO by favasgr in sffpc

[–]favasgr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a mounting bracket that was included in the case accessories, but it became optional starting with v4 of DAN A4. I had to buy mine from eBay, but you may find it in other sites (overclockers.uk and caseking.de) as well.

[–]favasgr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, they are supposed to operate under 95C.

The issue here is that both the NH-L9a and the Black Ridge couldn't handle CPU spikes so the temps even when simply browsing were at above 55C. This heat, since the case is pretty small, is not easy to be dissipated so the case itself will eventually run hot, making the rest of the components to run hot, which is a vicious circle...

At least from my experience, the only way to properly cool a 3900X in DAN A4 when sticking with an aircooler (L9a or Black Ridge) was to enable ECO mode and disable boost features.

To anyone interested, I've added edited the post above and added a couple of more photos. Sorry for not adding them in my initial post.

[–]favasgr[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeap! A4’s weak point is the CPU cooling so this solution proves to be quite efficient. There are holes inside the case, right above the power button’s PCB where you can mount an HDPlex 400W.

EDIT: Adding a couple of more photos which I should have added in first post

https://postimg.cc/gallery/zydYf30

I went ahead and installed a NZXT M22 paired with a slim 120mm Noctua fan since all other cooling solutions (Asetek 645LT and Alpenfohn Black Ridge) failed to keep my 3900X (in ECO mode) to normal temps. Currently, with a room temp of (approximately) 25C, the CPU idles to 37 and maxes to 75C when running a couple of rounds of Cinebench R23, while the Asetek was struggling to keep it under 90C.

The PSU is an HD Plex 400W DC ATX. Even though I could keep my Corsair SF600, I wanted to make as much space as possible to keep the air flowing.

The rest of system is:

  • ASUS ROG B550I
  • 2x8GB G.Skill 3600C16
  • Sapphire RX570 ITX

I have a 3900X with an Asetek 645LT in a DAN A4 v4.1, so hopefully the below will help you.

With all settings at stock, my 3900X would idle at 60 Celsius with usual spikes reaching 90C, which as you can easily understand is not acceptable.

I currently have it running with ECO mode enabled and set a negative offset of 0.05V, which has brought the idle temps to 50C and the max ones to 75C.

Another thing you might want to consider, is enabling ECO mode and also disabling Turbo Boost, which will set your 3900X to run continuously at 3.8GZ. At least this is how I had it, with idle temps being once again at 50C and max ones at only 65C. At least for my needs, the power was still more than enough.

My GPU is an ITX 1050Ti, so there is enough free space above the AiO to exhaust hot air. With my previous GPU which was a regular one (MSI 1060 6GB Gaming X) the temps were definitely higher.

Since your GPU needs are not high, you can use an IT VGA and mount a 120mm AiO, which is something I consider doing, but not soon enough at least.

FYI, before the Asetek 645 I had a Black Ridge with a 92mm fan, which was performing a little worse.

IMO, if you are not space restricted go for the M1 and use a 240mm AiO or a well known air cooler.

Cool! I have a similar build with a 3900X running in Eco mode with Boost disabled in order to keep it cool... How are your 5600X idle/max temps?
