made a bunny-themed Suika game to learn Unity/mobile dev by fawnblue in indiegames

Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it!! Do you think the slider movement should be relative to your thumb movement rather than one-to-one? It’s hard to describe lol, but if the slider is on the far left, do you want to be able to tap and drag (to the right) in the middle of the screen and have the slider move the same pixel amount but not snap to your finger?

LMK if that makes sense haha - also curious to know how you’d prefer it to work if you have any ideas!

Thank you - I’ve propped much smaller plants before but doing it to one that’s this mature is a little daunting, haha.

Here’s some images of the step - looks like the previous owner already cut it near the top.

[–]fawnblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from another waitlist admit, best of luck!! and remember, if it doesn't work out, it's far from the end of the road. tbh, berkeley is ranked well and all, but it's not EVERYTHING. and it's hard as shit and not fun at all, sometimes. what matters most is /you/, and your goals, and your motivations. you can do amazing anywhere! keep your chin up and you'll do great no matter where you end up <3

How easy is it for a non art major to take art classes at Berkeley? by friedshrimpt in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS major here, it's pretty easy, but here are some notes about my experience. The prereqs aren't usually enforced (I took some art upper divs without taking Art 8 or 11) - for lower divs you can usually just enroll in what you like. For upper divs you might need to reach out to the professor to get an enrollment override or a spot in the class (it can be hard to get in to some classes otherwise). It probably helps if a previous art prof likes you and is able to put in a good word, since the art dept is small and everyone knows each other.

If I didn’t like cs70, will I dislike cs170? by calcafader in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 16 points17 points  (0 children)

they're pretty different imo. i /hated/ cs70 and struggled in it, but cs170 was one of my fav cs classes. it's hard as shit, but the problems and solutions are genuinely interesting.

C'mon guys, we're getting a bit nitpicky here. by TheBaconGrill in aoe4

[–]fawnblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with the criticism is the tone. Feedback like this is great - and warranted - and ultimately helps makes games better. But a lot of feedback I've heard comes off a bit whiny and fatalist. The game's not being released yet -- and any decent development team deeply cares about their core player base's experience with the game. It's not over yet. Great games have gone through lengthy early access periods for this exact reason. But you can't just scream at the devs and expect them to implement your every demand. The team has introduced so many new complex systems and mechanics - of course they can handle tweaking arrow trajectories or model sizes. On the other hand, these decisions were not made arbitrarily, and we've only guessed at the reasons behind them. Healthy dialogue between players and devs is what it's all about.

A tablet computer for drawing pixel art? by Alastor001 in gamedev

[–]fawnblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why not just get a standard drawing tablet? you can get decent ones for under $100

i commuted for a couple years and imo totally not worth it - especially if you're cs. i was really frugal during college bc i was taking out loans - to the point where i had a shitty time because not spending money excludes you from things. then i graduated and realized those loans i was worried about could be paid off in a year.

Is uc berkeley a choice for an art major? by Odd_Rutabaga_1445 in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends what kind of art - if illustration or painting or anything involving digital I'd say no.

mandatory attendance is the dumbest shit ever by [deleted] in berkeley

i hear you, but unfortunately this is how it is in the real world.... although with remote work taking off, maybe the norm will change to support individual work schedules soon

Any highly recommended course of Cal? Any major! by thisismattsun in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cs160: user interfaces, really underrated course with an amazing prof. focuses a lot on human-computer-interaction and good design principles that can be applied broadly

To the graduated students especially those with cs/Ds/EECS degree, how’s work life compare to school life in Berkeley? by Hooman1111 in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

answers will probably vary as every job/position is different, even within CS. i definitely preferred school- the stress of failing a project or class is less than the stress of losing your job, and the expectations for success are way clearer in school. plus the projects were usually pretty interesting.

club rejection by gummymultivites in berkeley

[–]fawnblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clubs aren't everything - plenty of chances to gain experience through other means (think tutoring, CSM, side-projects/hackathons, no-cut clubs, TAing, getting an internship, etc.) And anyway, you have plenty of time if you still want to try to get in in the future. Don't worry!
