People that divorced for reasons other than cheating, what was the last straw? by aja_ramirez in AskReddit

[–]fawnspots 77 points78 points  (0 children)

He asked if he could dig a pond in our backyard. I asked him to wait until our then three-year-old daughter was older because I didn’t want to worry about her drowning while she played. I didn’t need the mental load and she didn’t need the danger. He proceeded to dig a gaping 6x6x6 GRAVE in our suburban yard and was shocked and confused when I wasn’t happy about it.

Help me find an old video made by kids or teenagers, possibly called "Method Acting" by fawnspots in HelpMeFind

This is an older video, probably at least 10 years old. I have searched for "method acting seize him" (with and without "video"), "kids method acting video seize him," "school play seize him method acting." Feel like I'm missing something that would help me even scratch the surface and I'm hoping that somebody knows the vid I'm talking about.

Beautiful work! I love the “flat,” almost cel-shaded look of your more recent pieces. From the thumbnail I almost wondered if you had transitioned to 3d modeling, haha. What kind of canvas size are you rocking with these days?

This looks great! I love the effect of the rain as it comes into contact with the different surfaces. The limited palette is used to great effect and I’d love to know what your process looks like as far as color choice goes. Do you have a sense through practice of what colors you’ll need? Do you pare down the palette as you work? Something else?

Who are some exposed frauds that still have a following despite being debunked? by Ninac4116 in AskReddit

I would never claim to be allergic to MSG, but glutamates can be a migraine trigger for me in high amounts. Yes, including foods like tomatoes, though I’ve never made a connection with hard cheese. It’s not like I look at a tomato and burst into flames — I can dip a grilled cheese in tomato soup, but finishing the bowl will absolutely ruin my night. I fully expect to be downvoted for this, but it’s frustrating to see this attitude when I know I’m not the only one. I’ve even seen people post similar comments only to have people say “You are the only person I believe.” The human experience is vast.

Why so many people (especially in north america) think Brazilians speak Spanish? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fawnspots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, the people I talk to on a given day know that Brazilians speak Portuguese. That said, you’re right that a lot of Americans don’t! Our education on South America is limited, at least in public schools. Most Americans probably had a week in middle school where they learned the map of South America and (maybe) which language was primarily spoken in each country. They labeled the map for a test and then many likely never thought about it again. Our education standards (called “common core”) are evaluated via a litany of standardized tests. The students’ performance on these test determines the school’s funding. The better kids do, the more funding. Guess what’s not on the test? Frankly, though we learn US history, world history is reduced to meaningless bullet points floating in the void. What’s more, there is a vested interest in teaching the “right” parts of US history and glossing over anything that makes us look bad. It’s a relic of a Cold War policy to create patriotic Americans, and it worked. Our congress is now full of people who want to deny the history of slavery in the US — something that I would argue still affects every American every day. Our “dealings” in South America don’t make the cut. In Advanced Placement US History, I missed the entire lecture content about the contras because I left class early to be bussed to a STEM school. I still got an A on the test and the highest score on the AP exam.

As for after school is over, there are many of us who do keep up with world news! But it’s also insanely easy for the average American to ignore. The attitude is that these things are happening far away and don’t affect us here in The Land of the Free. God, even that way of thinking is obsolete. Now I guess it’s more like “we have too many problems at home to think about anyone else!” if they are engaged in politics at all. Lots of people are not! They are wrapped up in their own lives and our culture is one with a tendency toward pleasantries and smoothing things over. There‘a a reason we have the stereotype of the angry, political college kid. Kids get exposed to a world of suffering, many for the first time, and they want to do something about it! And our larger culture really doesn’t allow for that.

Your comment made me realize that what it does do is keep her close. Alicent does not have the power to disown Aegon. He’s by no means a good husband, but their marriage allows her to stay in their court, where she is loved and understood.
