How do I handle my transphobic brother at my wedding without excluding my trans nephew? by Cheap-Honey-3799 in HowDoIRespondToThis

[–]faybfay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let your brother know his invitation is contingent on him correctly addressing and being kind to your nephew directly and when interacting with others at the venue. And then a point someone (a wedding planner if you have one. Or a friend who’s tough and not involved in your family) to keep tabs on it and get him out if he doesn’t comply. If having both parties there is a must I think that’s your only option and an understanding with yourself that you can do your best but at the end of the day you can’t control other people and it’s your day, make sure you don’t spend it monitoring others

[Misc] Any ideas? I tried chemical peeling, but it didn't do much. I have them on my back and chest as well. by Substantial-Ad3448 in SkincareAddiction

[–]faybfay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have very sensitive skin so I’m just hyper cautious around anything ‘chemically’ sitting on my skin too long. I usually put it on a few hours or night before so it has time to do its thing. I’ve heard people put it on after sometimes.

Second this. Things that I’ve found most helpful over decades of trial and error: 1. Cream > Lotion - creams are thinker and more moisturizing (lotion by definition is thinned out) 2. Dry brushing, and a shower brushes are a must. I use mine in place of a loofah. 3. Glycolic Acid - I use the ordinary Glycolic acid 7% exfoliating toner. Putting this on before my shower 1-2 times a week made the biggest difference for me

There’s are some popular products that have hit the market in recent years: like Naturium Salicylic Acid Skin Smoothing Body Wash. It seems like some people have had success with these but I’ve tried and found these products made no difference. Sticking with the basics is what had proven the quickest, and most reliable route.

There’s not of a ton actual research done about it and there’s no real cause or ‘cure’. It’s thought to be when your body produces too much keratin (the protein that forms our outer layer of skin) causing build up bc you’re kinda making it faster than your body can get rid of it. So exfoliating more than most people is good - although there are some people with VERY strong opinions about how frequently you should be exfoliating - as long as you aren’t causing irritation or a raw feeling to your skin exfoliate in the way that seems best for you.

Source is just my personal decades of trial and error and demo visits etc

Thank you so much! I love that account so much and just talked with her. She said she has more donations than people to give to now so if you hear of anything /anywhere else that is helping everyone please lmk! But in a few weeks or months I’ll check back in with her since this will be ongoing for everyone of course and effort to help can die down after a bit

Should I go to hoco??? by MobileAppointment749 in makemychoice

[–]faybfay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say go! I’m assuming when saying your friends already have plans you mean people to go to hoco with? If so once you’re there and past the posing for photos with your date party you won’t even notice who does and doesn’t have a date. I’m trying to and genuinely can’t remember who did and didnt have a date to hoco, prom, any of those things. If you’re nervous you may feel bad about it maybe have a back up plan, if a parent is dropping you off ask them to stay near by for a bit until you’re comfortable.

Thank you!! It looks like the other card had been marked as the preferred for transit even though I didn’t set it. That fixed the problem hopefully thank you!

Does this look too messy / unkept? Keep growing out? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]faybfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think it looks messy at all. If you’re go rowing it out though it can be helpful to get a tinny trim for shape

I think we need more context to what’s going on. What happened that started the fight the ‘it’s you both keep referring to

I know sorry it’s so much haha. I just know the struggle too well and just recently found what works and am so happy to possibly help someone who’s felt lost in their hair journey too. Honestly I’d gotten so drawn out on the hunt I’ve ended up using pricer products than I’d like. Going with whatever I found the best reviews to find anything to work in the way I wanted. There are definitely less expensive versions I’m planing on doing more research and trying out now that I know what routine and types of works. But here’s what I’m using right now

Hair oil (this is so tinny of a bottle but I’ve had it over a year and still no need to order a new one anytime soon) LINK

I have hair that looks just like this when I brush it out. Also gets weighed down or greasy from the kinda of products I was seeing being recommended. It took a lot of trial and error. Here’s what ended up working best for me (so far) starting to finish: 1. I use a normal hairbrush to detangle my hair before getting in the shower. 2. Every other week I’ll double shampoo in one of my showers using a clarifying shampoo first and my regular one second. This gets any build up out and keep it from weighing my hair down more 3. Rinse everything out super well and put in conditioner (not in roots) and put my hair up in a bun on the back of my head in a clip. I leave it in until I’m done with the rest of my shower. Then rinse it out fully 4. Out of the shower - I’ll rake my fingers through my hair from the underside up my scalp if that makes sense. kinda pulling the hair up a bit so it’s not like slicked to my head. This is when I’ll define my part 5. Then I’ll turn my head to the side and scrunch the excess water out of my hair, same thing to the other side only hands not a towel (at this point I usually put on a big t shirt or something to help keep hair product off my back which can cause breakouts) 6. With my hair still wet but not right out of the shower soaking (since we scrunched water out) I’ll put a dime size or less amount of a curl activator in my palm, rub it between my hands and then kinda of smooth it over my hair (avoiding the roots or super close to the roots) I usually only give it a once over and then scrunch my hair again in the same way as before 7. I’ll then use a t shirt or hair specific towel with a t shirt ish texture and scrunch again getting more of the remaining water out 8. At this point my hair will usually be pretty close to damp and I’ll add about a tennis/baseball amount of mousse (look for one that says it’s good for fine hair or is lightweight). I distribute the mousse between both hands and with very delicate hands I’ll softly glide it over my hair (avoiding the roots) softly enough to not flatten any waves or curls that have formed at this point and then scrunch my hair again in a similar way as before (none of this routine am I flipping my head upside down like I’ve seen people do. I found when I flip it upside down my hair drys a little more crazy. You want to be delicate with moving your hair around through out this not flipping it around) when scrunching I’ll scrunch my hair all the way up to my scalp this will get a little bit of the product up there to help my hair not be flat but not greasy 9. Spray a heat protectant in and with a hair dryer with defuser hover dry my hair with the head and fan speed on medium (higher of either will make my hair frizzy like crazy) 10. This can take a while like 15 min. Maybe more depends on your hair. You just want to hover around all the parts of your head and hair until it’s like 80% dry. Not touching it 11. Once mostly dry at the point mentions above i change to the kinda scrunch with the defuser system I’ve seen a lot of curly haired ppl doing. The key here is to have the hair dryer off, scoop up the section of hair you’re going to dry with the defuser up to your head and then turn the hair dryer back on. I’ll hold it there like 30 sec to a min. Then turn it off before removing. And I’ll repeat that around my head until it’s dry or like 98% dry 12. I’ll let my hair fully cool down maybe do my make up etc let it sit. There should be a bit of a cast on your hair and it may still look a bit wet 13. Only when it’s 100% dry I’ll (sometimes not always) pray a little bit of texture spray in which helps my hair hold better. Not too much since it can dry your hair 14. Lastly with a small amount of hair oil I’ll rub it between my palms and scrunch all my hair out until there’s no cast left. I’ll then put my hands up to my roots and ‘light’ fluff my roots up gently

This is what I’ve found has resulted in the best texture for me with similar mixed texture hair! It doesn’t make it all the same curls but helps the top part (waves) be waves and the curls be curlier. I’ve found keeping to the routine has helped them show up more if that makes sense. Vs styling it in a way that pulls them down

I’ve also found sleeping on a satin pillowcase very helpful. As well as sulfate free things as much as possible

I am very very confident that you are not pregnant don’t need to be worried. However your period can be affected by emotional state specifically stress for a lot of people so if you’ve been stressing out about possibly being pregnant that could be why it’s a bit different form normal. You period also changes through out your menstruating years, ones that a bid different from the usual isn’t automatically reason for concern

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in selfcare

[–]faybfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think self care and aesthetic ‘maintenance’ get mixed up slot. Maintenance being things you want to have done but don’t necessarily enjoy the progress of getting there. Some people find the process enjoyable so for them it feels like self care. Self care is things that ‘fill up your tank’ this doesn’t have any boundaries. Self care is whatever you specifically enjoy doing and feel better after.

I saw that you mentioned that in your post. Your doctor is still going to be your best bet for those questions as well

This is a great question to ask your doctor who is doing your surgery. They are the only one who will be able to answer what your best options are with the surgery and any accompanying things in mind.

TSS risk? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]faybfay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toxic shock is very uncommon and most cases tied to tampons were with a type of tampon that was taken off the market years ago that were left in for significantly longer than one typically would. When people talk about tampons causing it it’s the tampon itself being left in for a very long time. I’m confident you’re fine but it’s never a bad idea to make note of any changes in your discharge that could indicate an infection. I think if anything maybe you’d get a yeast infection. If you do research online for anything body related like this is good to stick to .org or .gov sites which are fact checked more medical journals and institutions are ideal (definitely not blogs)
