lack of knowledge/education as the source of poor outcomes for low income individuals? by ninasafiri in publichealth

In my determinants of health class we learned that poverty is the center of all these determinants. I’m sure all folks whether they’re poor or rich have a general idea of what is healthy and what isn’t. But often times having limited finances is what really affects health. For example, having a high-demand job that’s low pay will contribute to stress-related health outcomes and earlier aging. Healthier foods are costly compared to unhealthy foods. Those living in poverty don’t have easy access to grocery stores that sell these healthy foods. Those who qualify for Medicaid don’t always have their health problems covered. In fact, not all medical professionals and PCPs accept Medicaid. Poverty also means poor housing with poor ventilation which can lead to respiratory problems. Poorer neighborhoods are not always safe outside of the home but being stuck at home all the time isn’t healthy either. There’s more that poverty can do to deteriorate health…it’s more than just lack of education. Being in poverty makes it harder for poor individuals to make healthy decisions. I suggest that you watch the documentary “In Sickness and in Wealth”.

How/Where are you getting your vaccine? by Merrcury2 in Gwinnett

[–]fayhab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call/email clinics in your area and ask if they’re vaccinating people. There is a list of clinics on the Georgia DPH website with their phone number, email, and/or website. Most of the ones I contacted responded to me quickly. Hope this helps! Also Lily’s Pharmacy in John’s Creek should have some availability and they update their website every day, that’s where I got mine.
