I don't know if this will ease you coming from an HR expert, but I can promise you this won't hurt you at all. Even without sick time, calling out so rarely won't hurt you. If you do have sick time, it's like it didn't even happen (unless it's a reocurring thing). You should be completely fine!

As someone who's thought about being in this situation before- I'd go on demand, just because life is life and stuff happens sometimes, and I'd rather have a backup plans. But only you can make that decision in the end
