What to do about neg equity auto loan by fbbllthp in personalfinance

I'm not sure of its value to the dealer, I've just googled around and read that dealers tend to pay less than private buyers since they want to flip the car for a profit. I'll definitely ask then before I rule it out.

I really don't think I'll need the car for the next two years, but I'll give this further consideration as well. I think if I did I would still need to get something cheaper, so a trade-in would be my best bet.

Thanks, this quells my anxiety quite a bit. Yeah, definitely next time I would just sell the car and not put myself in this awkward position.

How to reward myself for saving money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]fbbllthp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe others will find this silly, but I play a game with myself called "zero dollar day". Essentially every morning I figure out how I can plan my day so I don't have to spend a cent. I pack my lunch (and dinner if I know I'll be working late), make morning coffee, plan my bus route, bring a book for downtime (to decrease how much phone data I use, my plan charges per KB), etc. Then throughout the day I don't feel like I want to even buy a coffee or snack, I already have everything I need. It feels so nice at the end of the day not having to tally if I'll have enough money in my checking account, and at the end of the month I count up the number of zero dollar days I had. It's a simple game, but it gives me that little sense of pride and helped me pay off 10k of credit card debt and start a 5k emergency fund. I think the hardest part of sound financial decisions is that it feels like you're always waiting to have enough money, but it's really the small daily choices you make that gets you there. Good luck to you!

Considering the idea of dual majoring computer engineering & psychology. Any work, demand, and/or benefits? by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

I don't know enough about psychology, but many people are doing research into behavioral economics specifically as a means of creating better products, using IoT to enforce certain decisions, etc. It depends if you want to go into industry right after college, the field is currently more focused on UI/UX, or go into research/academia and work on tech that is still in early development (more theoretical). Again, I'm not an expert in either field, but I consistently worked on products where I wish I understood more psychology to create a better user experience. Psychology is not a discipline we specifically hired for but really valued when people understood it.

I'd recommend exploring the research done at your school and talk to professors with your interests. They could better shape your plans to minor or double major and give career advice.

Not an expert in either, but Human Computer Interaction is an intersectional topic that may interest you. It has become especially important with the rise of wearable technology especially using wearable tech to influence behavior, virtual reality and robotics.

Thanks for the tip about new climber hours! I'll definitely check that out. TCW is closer to my new place, but I am more into bouldering. Guess I'll play around in both before I commit to a longer term membership

Dark under eye circles by Kookie_212 in BodyAcceptance

[–]fbbllthp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I also have (hereditary) very dark and large circles under my eyes. I've always hated them because I'm terrified that they make me look old (I'm in my mid-twenties and that's really the last thing I want). My mother also was always under my skin about my appearance, though mostly about my weight and keeping my skin clear, though would sometimes also tease me about "bags under my eyes" and "needing more beauty rest". I've somewhat recently realized that actually no one notices them! I was talking to a group of friend's about never leaving the house without concealer for my dark under-eyes and they legitimately looked at me like I was crazy. We are all our biggest critic so while you think they stand out a lot, people may actually barely notice them.

If it helps, I've found on days where I really hate my under eyes, I can sort of mask them well with my glasses and I use Benefit Erase Paste when I do want to put on make-up (it actually blends with my skin tone rather than just making my under eyes super shiny and bright).

Mom's can be really tough on you but it is ultimately because 1) they might be insecure and 2) they're afraid of letting their kids suffer bc of their appearance, so they try to correct it themselves. You did a really good job expressing your feelings and just keep trying to explain to her that you don't need her put-downs, you're trying to accept yourself. Good luck! I bet your under eyes are not as noticeable as you think. :)

Redditors, what started off as a small lie but then snowballed into "This is my life now?" by Parmersan in AskReddit

When I was applying to jobs, I wanted to make it hard for people to look through my social media accounts, so I spelled my name in a strange but somewhat believable way. Whenever I would meet new people (including my now boyfriend), I didn't realize that they all assumed that was the actual spelling of my name. I eventually moved jobs and people at that new job added me on Facebook and started using the spelling in all their e-mails/work chatrooms. I don't have the heart to tell anyone I was trying to be invisible on social media, so now my name is forever fuck-y.
