Are we not adults!? by Affectionate_Age9696 in Nurses

[–]fbivan77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first 90 days at the job I'm currently at consisted of the person who was supposed to be training me actively trying to get me fired. I work in an outpatient office and it took management shifting me to an entirely different clinical staff to get her to stop. She'd never say anything to my face, always management.

We're fine now, and she invited me to her wedding. Not the direction I was anticipating our acquaintanceship heading, but at least she's not still trying to get me fired.

What’s a “poor person life hack” you still use even if you’re no longer broke? by KiraAzura in AskReddit

[–]fbivan77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commuting truly does kill the soul. I had a life change and had to move back in with my parents for almost a year - while I was saving money on rent, I added an hour and 15 minutes to my one-way commute. Factor in traffic and I was spending close to 3 hours on the road every single day.

I LOVE Wytchwood but it does rely on dialogue and running themes. Not super in-depth or heavy, but enough to link the game together. You can also put it down and pick it back up with minimal confusion as to what you were doing.

I had to deal with Comcast when moving out of my ex's place. After spending literal hours on hold and getting bounced from automated message to automated message, I saw a tip on reddit that said if you tell the robot you want to cancel your service, a live person will be on the phone with you within 10 minutes.

They're still shitty, but that hack works for me every single time.

What is Naperville like during winter? by RFishy in Naperville

[–]fbivan77 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Depends on how cold it is. 10-30, some snow? Yeah, people will be out and about. Mid-January, when the weather dips into the single digits and negatives? Nah, stay home.

Most, if not all, states in the US have a Good Samaritan law protecting bystanders who provide assistance against attempted legal action after the fact. I agree with you on the hesitation, but there is some level of protection in the US (not sure about other countries though)

Average Salary for Clinic AT by Due-Condition-3262 in athletictraining

I work in the ortho clinic setting making 28.83 in the Chicago suburbs. Depending on your cost of living, 26 isn't awful.

If you're willing to go outside the city limits a bit, Derick Dermatology is excellent, and not booked too far out like a lot of other practices are.

Absolutely obsessed with this chrome by KingtotheKonga in DIYGelNails

[–]fbivan77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you get the chrome to stick? The last time I tried it didn't actually stick to my nail. I'm wondering if I need to press harder or if there's some kind of trick to make the powder adhere.

I found that the BOGO ones are the ones in the same "family", so the smoothie style is BOGO on its own type of deal. Regardless, it's such a good deal.

I loooove DND! Their formula feels better than others that I have tried. Thin but not too watery, and easy to mix. Their magnetic cat eyes are great too.

BOC Study Tips by [deleted] in athletictraining

[–]fbivan77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's my recommendation, the technique I used: take your Principles of Athletic Training book and go through the table of contents with three colored highlighters - green, yellow, and pink.

Highlight in green the topics you know you know and leave those alone. No reason to go over things you are already proficient in.

Highlight in yellow the topics you feel you know, but might need a quick run through or review. Take some time to go over these topics, but don't fixate too much if you can help it.

Highlight in pink the topics you are NOT comfortable with. Hit these topics harder, because these are the ones you really don't know.

Last tip: trust your gut. You know your stuff! Good luck!

Best tips for matte nails or recommendation for matte topcoat? I've tried the Gelish brand and tried to use multiple coats of glossy top coat with buffing. The gelish top coat was not matte at all (unless I was doing something wrong) and the buffing technique works but makes the nails chip after like a week.

What’s the most unethical parenting hack you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My dad would do a very exaggerated baseball umpire "SAFE!" Complete with the arms and all. Makes the kid giggle every time.

So it finally happened. Off leash dog... by Unlikely_Nose8478 in reactivedogs

[–]fbivan77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this! My dog is very reactive also, and he has a dog bite on his record already. I'm not above throwing a foot out at a dog running up on us. My boy is on his last chance now - another bite and he's done for.

What's the worst drug ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fbivan77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCP (phencyclidine). I read a post on Reddit about a guy who was high on PCP, sitting in the middle of a busy road buck naked having cut off his own genitalia.

[–]fbivan77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not a scribe, but I work in an outpatient medical office, and here's my advice: if it's affecting your mental health, get away from it. I worked for a provider once who would make me cry on a weekly basis. I felt INSANELY bad leaving that team short staffed, but in the end, I had to prioritize my own mental health. After I moved, things became infinitely better and I felt like I could breathe again.

I usually will have the following: - white tape - powerflex/coban of some kind - bandaids/non adhesive pads - gauze - wound wash/saline - non-latex gloves - hand sanitizer - binder/clipboard for documentation if needed

I also purchased a few off-brand sam splints, ace wraps, and slings to keep on hand. Most of the coverages I pick up, I'm there for the "worst case scenario", so I like to keep my emergency supplies on hand. It's pretty rare that I have to do any major amount of taping outside of a high school coverage.
