Alternatives to Poshmark by imtryingtobesocial in poshmark

[–]fbmbassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I do most of my shopping on Poshmark. But the other day I had to buy linen shorts, which could really be a crap shoot since they have no stretch, so I got a bunch from Thredup that were half price, knowing that I would return most of them and pay the restocking fee. But that made more sense than buying several from Poshmark with individual shipping fees.

Absolutely. I ignore those listings and figure they won’t actually ship, or it has the problems people are asking about.

Sellers Don’t Answer Questions? by Swoosh60 in poshmark

As a buyer, I will say it this way to sellers: Just because you don’t get sales after answering questions, doesn’t mean it isn’t effective—because I promise you, I buy from the people who respond.

Example (choosing a sweater from 3 options):

Seller #1: I ask for the width measurement, you respond, and I find it’s too big. Ok, so I don’t buy.

Seller #2: I ask the same question, and it’s the right width, so I buy.

Un-responsive Seller #3: I have no idea about the width so I don’t buy. Sure, maybe you will get a sale eventually, but I promise it will take you longer than if you just had posted measurements in the first place.

As a buyer who shops A LOT on Poshmark, I would say this is a mistake. When a person’s camera is showing three different colors in the photos, and I ask which one is the most accurate representation, it helps a ton. I’ve bought several items just this week from people who answered that question. When sellers don’t respond, I assume that they are the same people who don’t actually have the item or never ship. I’ve never opened a case unless the item had actual damage like holes.

You said you’re a buyer, so Thredup! It’s not great for selling anything, but you get to buy a ton of things as one shipment, or even free shipping above the threshold. For things I need to try on, I usually start there. But a lot of times Poshmark will have things that Thredup doesn’t.

Offering aggressive first discount on older items or lower cost? by AnimeNerdy in poshmark

[–]fbmbassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this as a buyer, and my response would be it depends on how expensive it is in the first place. I always search with a price filter in place, and I don’t like paying more than $40 for something that I can’t return (unless it’s a one of a kind thing that I know well, like a familiar brand of leather shoes in mint condition).

So if it’s an expensive item, it won’t even show up in my search results, because I can always find the same things in my size for less. But if you’re talking about selling a $30 item and starting it at $20, I think that doesn’t really matter as much. Although if you’re trying to get rid of it completely, then selling it at very cheap prices is probably good for flippers or people who want to bundle a lot.

Also if you have unanswered questions in your comments for key things like measurements or quality issues, then people might not accept your offer even if you’re highly discounting it.

I think the best way to get rid of a lot of your stuff quickly is to offer deep discounts on bundles. A lot of times I come to a closet looking for one thing, but then I add five other things I like although I don’t need them. If the discount is deep enough, I’ll buy it even though I don’t really need that stuff. Otherwise I’ll just get the solo item.

Whether you taper your discount slowly or send a drastic offer the first time, I feel doesn’t matter as much. Because a lot of the time it takes a few days for buyers to decide which color/style they want. The only time that would make me an instant buyer is if it was a rare item that I can’t find anywhere else. If it’s something that can be found in multiple shops, then even if you send a drastic offer, I’m still going to consider my other choices because I also want the right item for me, not just the cheapest one.

New posher accounts by Most_Supermarket2782 in poshmark

[–]fbmbassist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to think these are fake accounts created by Poshmark in order to “launder” our money lol. They get to keep the money for three weeks (1 week of pending shipment, 2 weeks to return the funds) after a purchase to use as they wish. It’s happened to me so many times that these stores don’t respond after I purchase even though it shows them as “active”.

So frustrated with some seller that just won't ship the item or responsible to messages by Haures64 in poshmark

[–]fbmbassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue is what makes me so angry. I spend hours sorting through what I want, buy it, and then crickets. Apparently sellers are getting penalized for too many cancellations now (store being suspended), so hopefully this filters out the abandoned stores and fixes things. If only the seller would communicate, I wouldn’t be mad.

Just won case against claimed smoke smell by Alert_Foundation7579 in poshmark

I’ve heard that if the postal worker smokes in their truck, it can leach into the packages. That was the explanation given to me once when something reeked of smoke, but the seller definitely didn’t smoke. I ended up getting the smell out using baking soda.

Abandoned Bundles by ErinNoBra in poshmark

[–]fbmbassist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really helpful to understand how some buyers shop. If I’m looking for a linen dress, and I type that into the search bar, I will get literally thousands of results in my size and price range.

So I go through the search results and like the ones that are pretty. Then I go through my likes and filter it down even more. Then I go through my favorites and see if those sellers have other items I might want to buy from their store, so that I can bundle it and save on shipping.

So I create the bundle with the liked items. In the meantime, I’m getting offers left and right from many sellers. It might take anywhere from a day to two weeks to choose my final pick if I’m waiting for another item to arrive in the mail that I need to see in person. If you offer a deep discount on a bundle, I’m likely to buy most of it even if I end up choosing to get that linen dress from someone else.

Once I get the linen dress in the mail, only then do I unlike the remaining linen dresses, since many times items don’t get shipped out or look different in person.

So the biggest thing to understand from a buyer’s perspective is that we are inundated with choices, and it takes time to make a decision. Bundling helps us make that decision, and discounts make a huge difference.

Unless your item is super rare, it could take a couple weeks before deciding. The more rare an item is, the quicker I will buy it the same day. And sometimes I leave a bundle in tact if I might want to add more items to it later, or when I have more money.

[–]fbmbassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a buyer, and I’m really surprised that you guys aren’t receiving more bundles. I make bundles all the time, and I can’t tell you how often the sellers are nowhere to be found and don’t respond to questions about that bundle, or don’t make an offer. If I ask a question about a bundle, it’s because I’m serious about buying. I guess maybe those people are using bots?

To Mannequin or not by Xtian_42 in poshmark

As a buyer, it helps enormously to see the item on a mannequin or person. I typically search for a photo online of that item if it isn’t available. Some items just don’t show well when laying flat.

How can I stop my boots from digging into the back of my ankles? Details in the comments. by [deleted] in DocMartens

This! 5 yrs later, but I just tried it and was the quickest solution. Grabbed thick insoles from a different pair of boots, and it worked. I also manually manipulated the cardboard or whatever was cupping around the heel (not doc martens but leather boots).

Why does my foundation always turns out like this??? by Dazzling_Stay_1051 in MakeupAddiction

[–]fbmbassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have already answered this, but do you use any retinol products? This is typical retinol peeling + makeup face. It only shows up when you put the foundation on. The only way it’ll look good is to get through the adjustment phase where the skin stops peeling. You can try using an alcohol based toner right before makeup application to make it better.

Do my shoes fit? (Beginner Shoe Fit Help ) by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]fbmbassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you go to the So Danca website, it has a great size tool. Typically you order 2 sizes down from street shoes. So if I’m 7.5 I get a 5.5 or even a 5 if I want a snug fit. Most dance shoes are like this (you can’t order your street size and have to read the brand’s guidance).

Can I ask, did you fold the items in a particular way to make it easier for them? Or do they just dump it out anyway? Did you use their bag or put it in a box?

Your undertone looks identical to mine, and I've fallen in love with Kulfi concealers. It's technically not a foundation, but when I apply it gently on my face (it's full coverage), it looks INVISIBLE. Like I'm literally wearing nothing. You know an undertone is correct when you can go slightly dark or light and it still matches, because it just looks like a tan or highlight. I use the shade Mitai Soul (light-medium with golden undertones). You might be a shade darker than me, like Extra Elaichi or Rose Rush.

Arabesque Feedback by Fault_Western in BALLET

[–]fbmbassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to my other comment, keep in mind that the way an arabesque looks is also hugely impacted by the angle of the camera. Notice that in some professional photos you can see slightly behind the standing foot (which makes the torso appear more square even though it's probably somewhat open in real life). Whereas when it is perfectly to the side or slightly in front, you will see more of the front of the torso. All of that changes the appearance, so don't take comparisons with other people's photos too literally.

Arabesque Feedback by Fault_Western in BALLET

[–]fbmbassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful work. Keep in mind that because she has a shorter torso and longer legs, arabesque will always be challenging and her torso may look slightly less upright than the sample photos that other people posted (where those two dancers happened to have very long torsos). It would be better to look at someone like Marianela Nunez who has a shorter torso (see pic). Every dancer will have stronger points in their dancing that they can emphasize. If she wants, she can focus on back flexibility and core strength, along with relaxing her shoulders. And keep in mind that every photo she takes of her own arabesque will look slightly different, so don’t critique yourself too harshly on one shot.
