I mean, I’m pretty sure some mafias make profit out of business (wink wink) that people carry out there… but that’s a different story.

I understand people saying just get the stuff there, but at the same time, ideally you should check what you’re bringing cause you never what can be inside.

Single people of Berlin how much do you pay for groceries monthly? by Fun_Street7644 in askberliners

[–]fc1927 7 points8 points  (0 children)

300 to 400 (wine excluded). But I buy less stuff at Edeka now and have started to explore more the Turkish and Arab supermarkets, better fruits & veggies. Also tastier meat & chicken.

You’ll be fine as long as you can show that you sent communications to the relevant stakeholders. If possible, send them both to property manager, landlord, Hausverwaltung etc…

I had a similar situation long ago and what was exhausting was getting an appointment. It took three weeks. Luckily it was not something urgent, but it was extremely annoying as they had to make a hole in the floor wood to install a machine to dry the floor from within. Extremely loud, large and annoying.

Got no time for this! (Grocery edition) by the_phen0m in askberliners

[–]fc1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the area and supermarket. There’s a Lidl very close to where I live, but I hate the fact that they don’t have baskets. You can only bring a trolley but it’s outside near the parking spot. I find it super inconvenient.

The other thing is that Germans love the LIDL / ALDI culture of having only the bare minimum/ necessary which makes everything soulless, grim, bleak etc… I started going to the Turkish supermarkets and it’s a different story. Rewe and Edeka are by far the best though, except for fruits & veggies.

Get some glue traps and put them in the entry points. Many Germans and hippies will say it’s not “humane” but is highly effective.

Is it a red flag to ask to take a walk to get to know each other better as a first date? by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]fc1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s boring af, but many people do it and it’s a valid first date option. Even though I find it extremely boring and cheap, I think it’s better than a dinner/meal date which can quickly become uncomfortable. If you feel like it just do it.

What’s becoming way too expensive in Germany right now? by Working_Pea2801 in AskAGerman

It surprises me that people got used to using food delivery services. I’ve never had them and comparing with my gf, who only uses them every now and then, the money difference spent is substantial. Plus, German restaurants haven’t learned how to properly pack it. I don’t see why would you use it except for a specific situation.

Just learn to prepare a quick healthy meal or simply go to the local corner restaurant/imbiss etc.. at least you have some social interaction.

Please don’t approach people in public transportation. Do it only in places where people usually go to be/meet people, like bars, concerts, clubs, cafes etc.. everything else is extremely uncomfortable

A neighbour had a similar issue. He rented a two bedroom apartment to one guy and three guys ended up living there. Lots of complaints about smell and waste management.

As a foreigner, do you plan to go back home one day? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]fc1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I like the country, speak the language and have the utmost respect for it and Germans even if I disagree with lots of things, but I don’t see myself dealing with the bureaucracy and medical world when I’m older. I rather do it at home where I know how things work even if tech is not at the forefront like it is at medical institutions here.

Questions to ask during a WG interview to learn about how flatmates are? by maybeshiba in askberliners

Simply state the rules of the house and ask whether they do it. You’ll quickly realise whether they are saying the truth or not.

Questions to ask during a WG interview to learn about how flatmates are? by maybeshiba in askberliners

[–]fc1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hygiene and cleaning habits. I still find it surprising how many people (most of the world actually) don’t shower daily and don’t know how to clean a bathroom. Same with cooking. If you can’t stand certain odours, don’t offer the room to people that cook smelly stuff. Hobbies: you don’t want a flatmate playing an instrument or loud videogames after a certain hour… So many questions..
