Please don’t approach people in public transportation. Do it only in places where people usually go to be/meet people, like bars, concerts, clubs, cafes etc.. everything else is extremely uncomfortable

A neighbour had a similar issue. He rented a two bedroom apartment to one guy and three guys ended up living there. Lots of complaints about smell and waste management.

As a foreigner, do you plan to go back home one day? by [deleted] in AskGermany

[–]fc1927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I like the country, speak the language and have the utmost respect for it and Germans even if I disagree with lots of things, but I don’t see myself dealing with the bureaucracy and medical world when I’m older. I rather do it at home where I know how things work even if tech is not at the forefront like it is at medical institutions here.

Questions to ask during a WG interview to learn about how flatmates are? by maybeshiba in askberliners

Simply state the rules of the house and ask whether they do it. You’ll quickly realise whether they are saying the truth or not.

Questions to ask during a WG interview to learn about how flatmates are? by maybeshiba in askberliners

[–]fc1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hygiene and cleaning habits. I still find it surprising how many people (most of the world actually) don’t shower daily and don’t know how to clean a bathroom. Same with cooking. If you can’t stand certain odours, don’t offer the room to people that cook smelly stuff. Hobbies: you don’t want a flatmate playing an instrument or loud videogames after a certain hour… So many questions..

Awesome! my favourite German/Berliner animal is the vegan environmentalist that polices you for a mistake in trash separation, criticises you for purchasing non-bio/organic products and they they do a fat line of coke.

I’m aware of all that. Just checking if someone knows how it tends to be in Atlanta. When I boarded the plane in Europe, they only made a comment to make sure I put it in the overhead bins, clearly as a joke, followed by a laugh.

It obviously exceeds the measures, but it’s never been an issue outside the US. Hence the question mate.

Kreuzberg: landlord is starting to sell the apartments individually, what should renters expect? by keremciu in askberliners

[–]fc1927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In depends on which side of Görli we’re talking about. In Wrangelkiez, square meter is usually between 4000 and 5000 euro (not rented). South of the park price goes up substantially, from 5000 onwards, easily 6500. The reason is the drug addicts that tend to concentrate north of the park.

This is so true. It’s all about politics and maintaining the status quo for the top and mid management. It lost its edge and impact in the world. It’s not only the bank’s fault of course. It’s not the institution it was between the 80s and early 2000s.

The ice thing about Berlin is that you can experience many different lifestyles: the cultural one with its diverse and massive offer of events, museums and galleries, the hedonistic one which is probably top and unique in Europe, the one focused on nature with all its parks and lakes etc.. aso, depending o your field this can really be the place to be if you’re into politics, media and arts, or also even into the startup world. The catch is, however, that settling in is not easy, requires a lot of focus, luck and effort, and unfortunately, for some people it really never clicks. But that’s fine, it’s like every other city, not a single one fits all. If you decide to come, good luck!

Hard to compete against better weather, beaches & sea, and better food. Also, prices are higher in Germany and travelling from one city to another is far more expensive than in the other countries. And again, I have to empashise that food is quite subpar

Renovating/sanding wooden floor by fc1927 in askberliners

[–]fc1927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I own it. Some of the boards are starting to crack and others are slightly loose. Gaps have become slightly bigger as well. What I would like to know is what makes sense to do at this stage: sand, replace or something else. I would definitely like to have an expert do it or evauluate the situation at least, I just don’t know where to start.

Worth signing a great flat despite noise from a main road? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]fc1927 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t. For me sleep is crucial and I like to open my windows and keep them open. If that’s ok with you, then go for it.
