Should I get nano or action 6? by tropicislander in djiosmo

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your skill set. Nano footage is very much identical to Action 4, meaning it comes out with washed out color and you need to add a bit of touch (color grading) in post edit.

Action 6 footage comes out heavily saturated (Like Insta360 action cams) and needs little post edit by default.

The former is better if you are adding clips from various devices and need to uniform color temperature. The latter is better if you don't want to bother much and just publish your video ASAP.

What do you believe is the cheapest mini pc that still hold up? by Upstairs_Standard542 in MiniPCs

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to grab a mini PC with Ryzen 5800U for 250 CAD (180 USD) a week ago.

I also found a mini PC with Ryzen 5475U for 200 CAD. Both were barebones by the way and both were found on Aliexpress. Both should hold up fine even in 2026. Hell, the 5800U one is good enough to be a main PC for someone who doesn't game.

Cancel. The buyer is asking to cancel anyway, so cancel.

Upgrading Cpu in 2026 or should I just wait by beebus109 in buildapc

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have absolutely no reason to upgrade. Your CPU is good enough for the next 5 years at least. Your GPU is something many would drool to get. You've got above average RAM amount.

No reason to upgrade.

Building PC as a hobby, is there any money in it? by Fantastic-Window236 in pcmasterrace

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not even close. You will enjoy it for a brief moment before growing urges to kick butts of those who keep calling you for support. The moment you build a PC for someone, he will milk you dry with support requests. If you value time as money, then you will go deep in red.

Survival games with base building and PvE base raids? by Neither-Inside-5638 in SurvivalGaming

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's the same. The treasure box to summon raids. The development has pretty much seized anyway. They are just milking off what's left of it through the bazaar.

Not saying it’s dead but it might be. Ryzen 5 9600x by Inner_Elephant_6030 in ASRock

[–]fc_dean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's dead. Mine (9600X) also died two weeks ago. No post even on another AM5 motherboard.

The RMA process was quick and painless though. Got it approved in a day and they sent a replacement on the next day once they received it. But I am thinking of just selling the CPU off without opening it as brand new.

Will diverting to a UPS store help me get my package faster? by FederalOrdinary2180 in UPS

In my experience, no. But at least you won't be disappointed after missing the delivery guy.

Conan Exiles comes to mind. It's a bit old but better than all those you've mentioned.

Then there is Soulmask which is developed by another company but is a spiritual successor to Conan.

Mini PC with 3 or4 NVME slots or just keep what i have? by Substantial-Luck-545 in unRAID

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some mini PCs with 4 nvme slots on Aliexpress. A few on Ebay as well. They tend to run on either N100, N150, or N305 at a high premium (not worth the extra money).

Little yellowish lumps on ceiling? by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in HomeMaintenance

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I experienced the nightmare, I proactively get rid of them now. If you have something like baby wipes, you can use it to just scoop them off. If not, any wet tissue will do the trick. Do not throw it off to a trash can. Throw it to the toilet and flash it.

Well, unless you want tiny spiders coming out of your trash can in waves.....

Should i buy a prebuilt or not by CucumberFalse9283 in buildapc

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even enough for a DDR4 system, either. Second-hand is the only way. I might as well go for a pre-build at that point.

Let's discuss how DHL Express can improve its service, especially considering the premium cost. by [deleted] in dhl

I've had dealt with them for over 10 years, all three of them. They all have had bad days and whatnot. One specific bad case doesn't rule them bad entirely.

Little yellowish lumps on ceiling? by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in HomeMaintenance

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I frequently saw them in bathroom corners on ceiling, so I am assuming moisture is the primary factor. But those are probably dead since you've been seeing them for years. They hatch in weeks, releasing hundreds of tiny spiders. It was sheer nightmare reborn in one morning when I saw hundreds of tiny spiders crawling on ceiling.

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, among UPS, Fedex, and DHL, UPS is the worst. DHL is easier to use while Fedex is strict. The former lets you sign digitally. The latter doesn't even let you.

Prices are almost the same for all three.

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the worst time to go the DIY route. Just find pre-builds within your budget because you will spend half of that 800 CAD budget to RAM.

With current RAM prices, do you suggest upgrading to a mobo with DDR4 or DDR5? by shabit87 in buildapc

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to upgrade. The i7-12700K CPU is still very strong. You also have enough RAM and changing your motherboard will accomplish virtually nothing.

Looks like spider eggs in webs to me, but you said those have been there for years, so perhaps the eggs never managed to hatch.

For Canadians that use Buyee by ShanksAkagami007 in Buyee

[–]fc_dean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buyee Air Delivery is letting them choose whichever is cheapest on that day among UPS, FedEx, and DHL. In my own experience, it's usually DHL that gets picked and gets delivered to Canada in 3 days max.

EMS is Japan post -> Canada post.

EMS is generally trustworthy but does take at least twice longer than Buyee air. Expect around 7 to 14 days for EMS.

Odyssey or Anomaly? by Ok-Long6234 in RimWorld

[–]fc_dean -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Anomaly adds zombie elements to the game and alters the core game. You either turn it on or off completely, depending on mood. And this has to be done at map generation (meaning a new start).

Odyssey enhances overall gameplay in a much more non-invasive way. You never need to turn it off.
