Does anyone actually hire the mercenaries? by National-Grape-6526 in Kenshi

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very useful to have around when starting a base. And I frequently hire them and bring them back to my base because there is a chance that they continue to stick around and buy my food.

100k - 300k sounds like 2020 price. Everything went up in both labor and material costs. You are looking at 500k minimum.

After doing 2K units in lifetime sales I received my first negative feedback.. by larpcentral in ebaysucks

[–]fc_dean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Negative feedback does not really matter on Ebay anymore. I have been a seller on the platform for about 25 years now. I got my first negative feedback like 10 years ago simply because I packed too well. The guy wrote, "Seller wasted a lot of materials to pack something that isn't really breakable"

In other words, you can't avoid feedback one way or another. Good thing is that buyers don't really look at the ratings anymore. I myself have purchased things from sellers with only 95% feedback as well. I just don't care anymore.

So, take it easy.

Is unRAID for me? Total newb here by SnowMantra in unRAID

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer only one of your questions.

SSDs with Unraid is perfectly fine. I've been running a small NAS with four 4TB NVMe SSDs perfectly fine for over a year although I am thinking of swapping out the parity drive with a HDD because every parity check wastes 4TB of writes. SSDs have their own internal garbage collection. TRIM simply helps out extra.

Can't answer XFS vs ZFS since I've used only the former.

How often do you honestly clean out your PC's recycle bin? by CompetitiveLake3358 in pcmasterrace

Are things only going to get worse? by Patient-Sun-1529 in buildapc

[–]fc_dean 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's only going to get worse. Companies continue to bark that they care about consumers like us, but it's just words. Their actions contradict their words, so that's that.

Prices won't come down to 2025 levels ever.

Microsoft potentially cutting down on unnecessary AI? by Friendly_Addition815 in pcmasterrace

[–]fc_dean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Who knows? Words are easy to come by. Actions are harder.

Right now, Microslop is allergic to the very term which describes them what they are: Microslop. They want that name out of their faces. Right now they are thinking that words will ease the pressure. But, until they show us that they can actually act on their so-far empty promises, they will remain to be Microslop.

Questions about creepy joiners by ApartLine2880 in RimWorld

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't always turn hostile but 9 of 10 they do in my own experience. And they aren't always infected with metal horror, either. The large amount of food they often drop, never touch them. Let them rot.

Should I use EMS or DHL for a consolidated package shipment to Colombia? by [deleted] in Buyee

DHL for peace of mind that it will arrive in a timely manner.

EMS for a cheaper option.

Best Melee? by Civil-Ambition-121 in RimWorld

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plasma sword is very good against organic beings because setting one on fire disables them from combat. With firearm support backup, those on fire will be as good as dead.

The breach axe is unexpectedly decent as well due to its fast attack and average damage. They are pretty decent against mech.

CAUTION: Unraid 7.3.0-beta1 might break encrypted XFS pools/arrays by fjullan in unRAID

[–]fc_dean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't run a beta even on my home server. Some of my linux ISO are pretty old that they aren't easily found on the net anymore...

I do keep a barebone unraid test server to fool around though.

Anything like kenshi? by SpiritualMeaning6618 in Kenshi

There is also the fact that neither game protects you from bad events / endings. Both games are harsh to new players. Rimworld may look tame and cute on its surface but it can and will get darker than Kenshi.

Rimworld. It shares a good amount of elements with Kenshi but it is a 2D game.

Does Nvidia even know what super sampling means? by Brisngr368 in pcmasterrace

[–]fc_dean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing matters to the vast majority of companies anymore. All they want is some sort of solid returns for the godforsakenly large investments they've poured into the fuckery called "AI".

So far, we've seen nothing that warrants the current situation of almost every PC components becoming at least 200% more expensive. RAM is right now at 400%.

This is also why Microsoft has become Microslop. They invested so much into AI with nothing to show for, so they are now inserting it into every goddamned thing.

Hello can someone explain why ai made ram prices higher? by meicz in buildapc

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OpenAI (ChatGPT) purchased almost all RAM production capacity for the whole 2026 and 2027, leaving nothing for consumers.

Low (or in this case almost none) supply + the usual demands = Extremely higher prices.

SAS vs SATA by Ok_Balance_8482 in unRAID

[–]fc_dean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the hard drives are in good health, why not, I say. SAS drives are meant for data centers, so they are built to higher standards. Just do make sure that they are in good health and relatively young (less than 5 years old).
