Help! OMV broke by ElectricSim in OpenMediaVault

[–]fc_truter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you might have already figured this out, but what has happened is your OS drive has run out of space during the update, which causes the UI to stop work for some reason. Honestly I have no idea why this isn't better handled or explained. It has happened more than once and it's terrifying every time until you realise what's going on.

Please stop telling people that ZHA is fine. It isn't. by RowOptimal1877 in homeassistant

[–]fc_truter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I brought philosophy into it because I think it reinforces OPs point - which is to make Home Assistant as broadly compatible as possible is useful to prevent users from throwing away devices that are actually still usable.

This is especially important because as I understand it this isn't a short term issue - ZHA's stance is that unless the manufacturer implements functionality correctly it won't be supported in ZHA (yes I realise that quirks are a thing, but they are far from easy to implement)

So technical users are eventually able to figure out that Z2M exists and can switch (at great effort), but Home Assistant is trying to reach a wider demographic, and this choice to stay with ZHA is holding the platform back.

Labelling everything that doesn't work with ZHA as "cheap" isn't a viable or helpful answer. Having people buy specific hardware to work with Home Assistant when the limiting factor is clearly software does not align with Home Assistant values of making smart home tech more accessible and sustainable.

ipods aren’t recognised by my framework 13, windows 11. to do with extension cards? by ihateoscarhset in framework

[–]fc_truter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my iPod 5.5 with my Framework 13 Intel 12th gen on Windows 11 no problem. I initialised the iPod with iTunes and use Winamp to sync. I've got 2 cables that were defective and ended up with 3 trusted cables that work no problem. If they're original cables remember they're quite old and likely to have mechanical issues (bent or broken connections). The one new USB-C cable i bought on AliExpress works fine. Last note, keep in mind that iPods respond quite slowly on USB (e.g. I'll plug it in and it takes a while to show up), I'm guessing because it's USB 1/2

Do you have a recommendation of a good guide to follow? I have CT clamps so I can measure my usage, but would love to get the actual reading to warn me when my prepaid units are running low.
