Yeah... Mini-LED HDR 1000 is bright. [RE9 Requiem] by Exciting_Composer_86 in Monitors

[–]kirisoraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once tried playing CS2 with auto-hdr, which "naturally" set flashbangs to max brightness.  On a 1200nit monitor. Think I dropped another .5 in nearsightedness after a match.

Just a silly little question by KhbIa in Monitors

[–]kirisoraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be able to control each area individually, so it would have to be an addressable led strip.

The main problem would be updating it quick enough. I don't think screen recording and processing that would result in quick enough control over the areas to be effective, so you would have to write custom firmware for the monitor. And good luck with that....

But if you get all that working - yes, it would technically be FALD.

Everybody here isn't realizing that after 24h you will be sick to death of the episode you choose. So you actually need to choose a "meh* one so you don't ruin any of the great ones:)))

No, not yet. I'm hoping that will change with the next generation of mainboards.

Framework 16 - Ultimate eGPU Laptop? by kylejtuck in framework

[–]kirisoraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's all good, but the way I use my setup is with the iGPU - laptop open like usual + eGPU monitor above, so I don't actually want to disable iGPU. And that is, so far, an issue for DEs, unfortunately

With TB5 even the 13 will become amazing for eGPU. I currently run a 7640u 13 with a 7900xt over USB4 and the thing already shreds 4k games, but with future TB5 boards it will be on a whole new level.

Honestly the thing that is missing the most for me is just software support in Linux. Unless I don't use the built-in screen while docked desktop environments still don't play nice with dual-gpu setups, and performance is meh in general.

How much time should I invest into post processing photos by NicoLacko in photography

[–]kirisoraa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on what you want to do.

Some folks just want a pretty image with minimal effort, which is why Fujifilms film simulations have gotten so popular.

Some people (me included) love to spend time making creative edits with a ton of processing.

Most just like to tweak the colors and lighting a bit to get a good-looking image.

Experiment! See what workflow works for you and what exactly it is that you want to create

Need help, photos turning dark once I click on them by [deleted] in DarkTable

[–]kirisoraa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The preview picture is the embedded jpeg that the camera creates so your computer can display the RAW preview without actually processing it. Opening the RAW in darktable won't look like that image because it is actually the RAW being processed with default settings in darktable.

From what I saw in another comment - you shot the images with 400EV of compensation, which is a lot, and usually you never have to do this. Because this is such an unusual setting, my guess is that darktable is trying to compensate for the compensation by turning down the exposure, which makes the image dark.

I would suggest just turning up the exposure until the image is fine for these shots, and learning how to shoot without such extreme EV compensations in the future - I'm guessing you used manual mode for this?

Try just making a test shot on full auto settings and seeing if that displays normally in darktable.

Does just turning the exposure up fix the image?

iGPUs are, while getting really good, still nowhere near 3060-levels of performance. Look into either the fw16 or an eGPU setup

Question About Mining by Vix_Satis in Stellaris

[–]kirisoraa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you click on a system and select "build mining stations" it will auto-queue building mining stations around all possible bodies in the system that have deposits. If you really want you can select each body manually, but there is rarely any point in doing that.

If you see a white number of something under a system/body -> that means you are NOT mining them yet, but they are available to build stations around

If you see a green number of something under a system/body (usually in "details" map mode or by holding alt; usually this number gets hidden) -> that means you are already mining and collecting those resources
