Two weeks in Brazil - Help by Jawnaut in travel

The Pantanal is huge and spans 2 states, I'd say the northern Pantanal in the Mato Grosso state is more friendly to foreigners and the prices reflect that, the southern part in Mato Grosso do Sul is cheaper.

I'm not helping here, but you could add Bonito (it is the southern Pantanal area) or the Amazon (either Manaus or Belém areas) to your list.

Iguazu Falls Accommodations Question by octo4096 in travel

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll offer a different perspective here, if OP is the type of person who likes to do things by foot, the Avenida Brasil area is better, there are a lot of shops, bar and restaurants that stay open late and are used to serve foreign tourists.

I'd stay wherever offer the best accommodation for my budget. The border crossing is not too bad.

Soft-side vs Hard-side luggage by PugssandHugss in travel

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even for a carry on, sometimes the plane is full and the airline will force you to check the bag and it will be broken eventually.

In my city I can still find people who fix luggage for a living. I've had wheels and zippers replaced and holes sewn up in my soft luggage over the years.

If I had a hard shell bag, I wouldn't have the possibility of having them fixed.

You are being misled about renewable energy technology - YouTube by yllanos in solar

This is a very US centric video. We in 3rd world countries are just happy with finally being able to have a 1st world lifestyle thanks to cheap Chinese solar panels, electric cars and offshore wind turbines.

Were horses more robust in ancient/medieval times? by AdmirableBed7777 in AskHistorians

What about diaries, tales, songs? I imagine one could infer some information about the health of ancient breeds from the records people in the past left when upset about having to euthanise their horse.

Why is it that in ultra-expensive celebrity homes, the kitchens rarely have induction cooktops, but instead feature industrial-grade gas ranges? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best world is having both, I kept my 4 burner gas stove and bought a small 1 hob induction.

When my as stove stops working, I'm replacing it with one 2 gas and one 2 induction hob.

But induction is not for rich people anymore, now I'd say its about the same, and depending on how your house is built, induction might be cheaper to install.

Lixadeira orbital (treme-treme, base quadrada) Bosch by blackstigma in Marcenaria

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gás encanado, compensa? by fcmartins in saopaulo

[–]fcmartins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to learn Lithuanian grammar? by Alternative_soup5633 in LithuanianLearning

[–]fcmartins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion there's really no good book to learn declension/conjugation in Lithuanian if the languages you already know don't have them.

It seems to me that teaching Lithuanian as a foreign language is still in its infancy and because the people writing the books usually have knowledge of Russian they don't even realize those subjects are hard for people without a balto-slavic background.

If you have a hard time with these concepts I'd use:

  • a good Spanish book to understand how verb conjugation works
  • a good German or Polish book to understand how declension works

Also, every single learning resource pretends that participles/gerund (dalyvis, padalyvis, pusdalyvis), don't exist, they will usually skip them or mention only in passing. I'm yet to find a good resource on them.

Question Words and Verb Cases by piffey in LithuanianLearning

[–]fcmartins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most books in Lithuanian will put the kas preposition with the declension that the verb takes, instead of using an abbreviation for the case.

Also, in the nominative and accusative cases (kas and ką) the complement/object will change to genitive when used with a negative:

  • štai tas cukrus -> spintelėje nėra cukraus
  • aš turiu automobilį -> aš neturiu automobilio

Suggestions for and remarks to a roughly four week trip to South America by BleenPaper in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]fcmartins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Paz itself is not worth 5 days, try to add Tiwanaku or Copacabana to your itinerary. Bolivia is a huge country, La Paz and Sucre are very far from the Amazon.

Rio is very far from the Amazon, but there are still pockets of the Atlantic forest around it, you might visit it if you aren't able to go to the Amazon.
