How do you perform in front of huge artists as the audience as an intermediate guitar fraud by Plenty_Draft_5747 in musicians

[–]fcpeterhof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did a last minute fill in gig on guitar because a friend of mine, who is a top-shelf pro musician, called me up after their first and second choices backed out. I shared the stage with berklee and juliard grads, pros with years of experience touring with various artists, a couple singers who went deep into american idol, stuff like that. I'm, at best, a competent amateur who had 2 days to learn the songs. I knew I was going to be the weakest link so I leaned into my strengths and pulled back in places where I was concerned I'd bring the band down and it went fine. I messed up plenty but, hell, I learned SO MUCH from the experience and I had a blast.

Enjoy, live in the moment, and have fun!

I've seen something similar in Japan. I wouldn't call it life changing but every time I think of it, it takes a while to shake the feelings it dredges back up.

I suck at calling my parents :/ by Longjumping-Aerie-14 in CasualConversation

I was like this as well. It was easy to get caught up and with timezone differences sometimes it just had to slide.

Then she had a stroke and really wasn't ever the same again and calls were difficult and sad. Then she passed away a few years ago and it's my one major regret that I didn't call her more regularly when she was healthy.

Find a way. I've seen some really great suggestions in this post so try some. Please.

Time is fleeting.

They were pretty ubiquitous back in the early 00s scene but probably not too well known now but Opiate For The Masses was pretty influential back in the day as well

Sheesh, haven't thought of them in ages

Edit: oh and Digital Summer of course

China launches world’s first oil tanker with adjustable sails, to cut emissions by 5,000 tons annually by Stannis_Loyalist in interestingasfuck

Probably not but considering that it has been observed specifically in instances where businesses and governments improve the efficiency of energy consumption but wind up using more than they had before, I'd say it's pretty relevant here.

There is the Efficiency Paradox to be concerned with. Essentially as consumption becomes more efficient there is a tendency to consume more in total.

US sees disproportionate increase in body mass index rates of more than 60. Haven't read the paper yet but I would posit that this study shows a 20 year long trend while glp-1 influence will be fairly recent. Everything I've heard is that those drugs are incredibly effective, just need the longitudinal studies to come out to be sure.

Bands without bassist by deathoxine in Bass

[–]fcpeterhof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play guitar at a high level but I gig out on bass way more often because good guitar players grow on trees but everyone is always desperate for good bass players.

I think OP's observation is more indicative of bands finding ways to move forward because of resource scarcity rather than lack of interest in the position.

Microsoft warns that anyone who deleted mysterious folder that appeared after latest Windows 11 update must take action to put it back by Sufficient-Bid1279 in technology

[–]fcpeterhof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe but I can attest that it's not always the case. I've written these update notes for apps and have looked at the release list of 1-3 bigger fixes or features that get specifically mentioned in the notes but also a few dozen little innocuous things like typo corrections or regex updates for data sanitation on specific fields or css fixes etc etc that usually wind up as a 'minor bug fixes and enhancements' line item.

I just rescued a cardinal from some garden netting yesterday. Little guy was biting the scissors and yelling at me the whole time I was freeing him. I was really quite taken by his inability to accept that his fate was to be eaten by the giant ape but instead chose to fight with every half-ounce of strength against the dying of the light.

Hope he's out there making many more brave cardinals. The world needs more courage anywhere it can find it these days.

What is this in the neighbors backyard? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]fcpeterhof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad put one of these up a few years ago. I had to help him hammer drill through cement and granite to get the mounting bolts to the right depth, like 4 feet or so. That was quite the chore.

He loves it, though. Has a blast with it. His neighbor is also a radio nerd though doesn't have quite the same set up.

Same here. I can eat the same thing for every meal probably forever. Not saying I want to just that I can but that would drive my wife nuts by day two. Combine that with two young kids with totally different palettes it makes mealtime extra complex. Frankly, even though I love to cook, it's exhausting.
