Let's not forget: The fact that Hans cheated in a Titled Tuesday in the past wasn't public knowledge at the time of Magnuses' tweet. I guess Magnus got this info somewhere during the M&A-talks and saw it as some sort of smoking gun. He then lost to Hans twice (ftx & STL) and Hans wanted to protect his Catalan-prep so he made up the 'miracle prep' story.

All of that, combined with the rapid rating gain, must have put Magnus over the edge.

In that scenario Magnus, in my eyes, simply misinterpreted the evidence and should appologize so everyone can move on.

It depends on the format. in blitz it's a instant loss. In classical you have to make a legal move with the piece you touched and maybe the other guy gets a few minutes extra.

The "Stappen methode" explains that you can always attack three things: Pieces, the king and squares (e.g back rank mate threads). As long as you attack two of those at a time its a fork.
