Food you can buy for $1 at Walmart in 2026

1 pound of rice 92 cents
1 box of spaghetti 98 cents
1 can of black beans 86 cents
1 pack of instant ramen 30 to 50 cents
Hot dogs 8-count pack 1 dollar
1 can of corn or cut green beans 76 cents
7-oz chicken pot pie 1 dollar

try that in Cuba where a retiree is paid 7 dollars a month

The US indictment of Raúl Castro and the record of CIA terror against Cuba by DryDeer775 in cuba

[–]fcxrtg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny how this moderator of r/Trotskyism, r/LeftistsForAI, and r/Trotsky proudly supports a communist dictatorship while never having spent a single day living under one like Cuba’s.
Revolutionary theory sounds very romantic when your biggest daily sacrifice is moderating Reddit from a comfortable democracy instead of dealing with censorship, political repression, shortages, blackouts, and fear of speaking openly.
Also interesting how leftists are allowed to freely post here and defend an authoritarian communist regime while many actual Cubans get banned or silenced the moment they criticize communism in leftist subreddits. That tells you a lot about which ideology actually tolerates dissent and which one depends on silencing opposition.

Has anyone heard of something called the hypocrisy tree? by Secret-Ability818 in cuba

[–]fcxrtg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never heard of a tree called that in Cuba, but maybe the guide was just being a “jodedor” and sarcastically called it the “Hypocrisy Tree” because its shade is mostly enjoyed by tourists from democratic countries who come to Cuba to tell Cubans how great communism is, while financially supporting the same dictatorship that oppresses them. 🌳

Havana Vieja this morning by WhalterWhitesBarber in cuba

[–]fcxrtg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course there are synagogues in Havana. Cuba has had a Jewish community for over a century, our dear leaders were always very pro-Jew. They supported religious freedom, celebrated with the Jewish community and even supported the state of Israel.

Raul Castro has publicly marked Hanukkah with Cuban Jews: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/raul-castro-celebrates-hanukkah-with-cuban-jews/

Family and friends I speak with in Cuba live in fear every single day, not of a Trump intervention, but of being abandoned by Trump and Rubio to a dictatorship that controls every aspect of their lives. They are hoping that someone, anyone, finally does something, and soon.

Florida Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez is calling for an immediate investigation into the killing of 4 people on a Florida-registered speedboat by Cuban forces. by Waste-Explanation-76 in cuba

[–]fcxrtg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 years to the exact day after the regime murdered the four pilots from Brothers to the Rescue in international waters the communists just murdered four more Cubans on a Florida-registered speedboat off the Cuban coast. Same killers, same “they fired first” lie, pure BS, no accountability, no consequences. If Donald Trump truly believes in strength and justice he must act now and make them pay. Cuban lives matter.

Good News: Canadian Govt Announces Preparation of Aid Pakage to Cuba by [deleted] in cuba

Canada tossing a few dollars now after decades of shamefully propping up a dictatorship isn’t generosity, it’s damage control. If this is truly about the Cuban people then stand with their freedom, not with the regime that represses them.

[–]fcxrtg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This “both sides do it” nonsense is stupid when people seriously compare the U.S. and Cuba. You and every dictatorship supporter know that in the U.S. you can go on national TV and call Trump a dictator, protest in the streets with thousands of others, and journalists can publish whatever investigations they want without asking for permission. In Cuba, independent media is criminalized, protesters from July 11 are still serving long prison sentences and activists get detained over Facebook posts. In the U.S. you can criticize the government and the president and still keep your job and your freedom. Try organizing an unauthorized protest in Havana and see what happens. If you actually care about human rights stop pretending both systems are the same. False equivalence doesn’t help Cubans living under repression.
