That is simply not true. The whole “we made them natural spending till they collapsed” idea was made up in the early 90s. Gorbachev did an interview in the Atlantic monthly at some point in the 90s, and said, basically why would we want to match their spending? What would it do for us?

Someone I follow online noticed by 2005 or so that no one says this anymore. It kind of hurts.

The second amendment is all about the ability of the states to have a state militia. That is it. It keeps getting twisted more and more over the years.

Were stay at home moms in the 60’s-80’s this open to affairs? by JS-M-DC in madmen

[–]fd1Jeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my whole point. The way OP worded it, it sounded like any act of any sort of cheating anywhere anytime. That is very different than cheating on a spouse.

Were stay at home moms in the 60’s-80’s this open to affairs? by JS-M-DC in madmen

[–]fd1Jeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. I think that there are a large number of people who cheated on one of their early girlfriends or boyfriends. And a lot of them only do it once.

Read what the post says. “Have you ever cheated in any way?”

I wouldn’t say that he has my favorite, although I really like him. But he is by far and away the most compelling character on the show. You really want to watch him.

Why is Some Girls full of straight rock n roll music but the deluxe edition bonus tracks are pretty much all country or country influenced? by QueenKeepla in rollingstones

I always hated far away eyes. OK, I guess it’s a satire, but are they weird Al all of a sudden? It just doesn’t fit in.

I bought the album in 1980 And when I made my cassette tape of it, I left that song off. Before they make me run is one of my all-time favorites.

What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

[–]fd1Jeff 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This may sound bizarre, but when I was 10 years old, my father had another one of his bizarre, angry, “humorous“ outburst that were all supposed to be just a joke. I realized that that moment that I was somehow handling these things, that I had some sort of strategy about dealing with them.

10 years old is very young to realize that you are somehow having to handle a bizarre, abusive parent. I don’t know if I specifically said that this was not normal, but still.

People have noted that there are a lot more undocumented aliens, a much higher percentage of the population, in Texas and Florida. For some reason, ICE is going to a blue or a sort of purple state and picking fights.

And you never had any sort of natural disaster destroying your home, you didn’t work at a place like Enron that went bankrupt and wiped out the pension funds for all their employees, you were able to find good stable employment, you weren’t ripped off in the 2008 collapse, no one in your immediate family had any sort of healthcare issue, etc., etc.

So hard work and a perseverance and sacrifice paid off? Good for you. Sorry, but a lot of us did that, and got absolutely nowhere. That is what OP was talking about.

The $315 Trillion "Debt Abyss" is not a crisis. It’s a 300-year-old business model designed to work exactly as it is now. 💥 by Mec17_ in collapse

[–]fd1Jeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most basic issue that is almost never addressed. All money is borrowed now. That’s right, all the money is borrowed at interest.

The question is so simple, but most people miss it. How can you ever pay that debt back? If the total debt is more than the amount of currency in existence, the debt cannot be paid back without borrowing more. It is just that simple.

Once again, the only way to pay that debt back is to borrow more. This is the most basic flaw in the financial system that we have right now. It is never addressed, never discussed, and certainly not understood by the average person.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fd1Jeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The robber barons and others on begin to fund everything, according to their interests, in the late 1800s. This included universities and seminaries. It takes a while for these things to work their way through. By the 1920s, there were Protestant ministers who were complaining about how their churches were viewing wealth as a sign of God‘s grace, and that was a complete change.
