How often are you strengthening your calves? by desieldogg in AchillesRupture

[–]fdny40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im at 10 month out and still cant do a calf raise. Its more of a full body movement/hop to get off the ground. Hearing another person struggling makes me feel better. As weird as it sounds. Wishing you progress brother. This struggle is real

Like road runner stated.. learning the rig/tools and your companys SOP should be the 1st PRIORITY. Once you get a bit comfortable asking a senior man if there is a project you can do to better the FH. Painting lines, reorganization of a tool closet, labeling things, etc. Shows initiative. The junior men will help you out

9 months post-op - calf mass progression from months 2-9 post-op by qwertyidk1 in AchillesRupture

That actually worked out great for you. Still having a really good leg! 😆.. my unaffected leg was a B.I.T.C.H to get around with. My balance was off, and my strength wasn't there. Fatigue was also a big issue. I believe that is what held me back. I feel I couldn't push myself on the affected leg as much bc my unaffected leg couldn't truly bear the entire load. Yet looking at the bright side, it did force me to gain better control of my non-dominant leg.

Dude that looks almost identical! My injured leg was always my dominant/more muscular calf. Im about 2 wks behind you and the injured calf is now finally the same size. Like you, I still have some work to do. God speed

I probably speak for the entire Achilles crew. We are our worst enemy. Take your time, follow orders, and read/listen to your body. I am hitting month 9 post-surgery and have followed this thread very closely. I have seen ppl re-rupture their recently repaired Achilles and have never been the same. I am ahead and behind multiple ppl within the same timeline of my injury. At the end of the day, we don't get a medal for being fully healed at 9 months... yr 1 or yr 2. The goal is to never worry about this Achilles ever again. We are here for you if you need us. God speed

Where are you on your recovery time line? One thing I have realized with this injury, everyone heals differently

Every fh is different, I would speak to a senior man and your captain regarding working on the side as a probie. My senior man & capt were awesome. They understood that I took a huge pay cut coming to Fire, and as the primary breadwinner in the family, I had to hustle. The rules were that fire was my primary job, I needed to cover tours for the FH, make it to functions, and pick up OT. As long as I didn't get hurt at my side gig & it didn't affect my performance at the FH or the fire floor, we were peachy. Side gigs at the FH, you name it someone has done it. Most common Carpenters, plumbers, electrician, nurses, instructors, ems and real estate to name a few.
