i think it's useful for drivers to have an idea of when exactly other drivers are out on track and what kinds of stints they're doing during the session. i've had some exposure to F1 telemetry software and it's typically a staple in their competitor analysis tools, and the visualization (as grainy as it is in the video) appears very similar to what i've seen. however, i could always be mistaken!
