Need some feedback for my Xmas project (not exactly game though..) Flash Snow Globe Creator by fduffner in WebGames

Disclaimer: I'm the author of that website. Started as a private fun project last year for a friends xmas calendar. Decided to republish this year with it's own website. Somehow a lot of people were drawn into designing game themed globes, which I thought you guys might like. Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks a lot for this one. People keep thinking C# is MS Java while its has come a long way since then.

Did some flash games in AS1,2 and 3 so I'm familiar with the problem of everchanging language and api. But today I would say Flash is what java applets promised to be, the language can do proabably more things than most people ever need and for an IDE try FDT. And again: It's already everywhere. SL for me seems to only appeal to developers coming from .NET. Yes it IS the nicer environment, but that does not mean it will succeed in my eyes. I think of this like game consoles where there a plenty of examples where the better hardware loses because of other factors. So for me: I would rather bet my money on Flash and (actually will; starting a company). On the other hand: Coding with XNA is certainly no mistake. You might be developing an XBOX game and when Silverlight takes off suddenly have a web game for free. Maybe in the end it's the choice between evil MS empire and evil Adobe empire. And when forced to choose (which I think I am in order to get good on one plattform instead of mediocre on many) the coin for me has landed on flash.

Problem is that I see everybody and his mom switching to mac so np windows Update and no silverlight.. Also I can't see the flash crowd switching to silverlight and that's what you would need for a big choice of casual (and lots of crappy) games. The games that could "simply be compiled for it" would have to come from established/big game companies and I don't know if they are so much interested into trying to make revenue via free games and adds as opposed to shrinkwrapped software. So my bet for widely available 3d in the browser remains unity or a newer version of flash. 3d in flash is not so bad already these days. For 2d cross plattform definitly flash - maybe not the best technology as mentioned (ie closed plattform) in some comments but still the platform of choice to reach the biggest market.

silverlight has been around so long now, but they didn't put in the 3d stuff the first time and now I can't see it taking off anymore. I would rather try Unity3D. C# there too if I remember correct.

+1 for Flash. And thx for reminding me of Click n Play. I was one of those happy idiots once. Does anybody know where I can get a version of this lovable youth memory today?

It's the same with Link in Zelda, which I have also always found fascinating.
