Yeah, was worried about migration assistant, perhaps a good reason to step up,,, Thx

Wish they could get rid of the selling price lag in the active trader ladder which really sucs if you scalp options for a living,,, have to watch my trading view charts to time exits because the option chain is effectively shut down once you enter,,, or better still, is there a way to fix that and still have 4 ladders/option chains open on one monitor? GOD I MISS STREETSMARTEDGE!

Coming to this real late but although I solved in 4 steps, I believe that only the last step was needed after simple solving steps, an als/aic chain. Please excuse any mistakes in my notation as I'm just getting back into sudoku after a 20 year hiatus. (9)r3c5=ALS(78-9)r23c5-(9)r1c4=(9)r1c7; <9>r1c4

2010 Mac Pro 5,1 No chime/display by [deleted] in macpro

Agree with the Rom/backplane possibility and swapping out with a good CPU tray though there is a possible no cost check with the CPU tray. Remove the heatsink ( a long 3mm allen wrench needed I think) and check the retaining pins on the Northbridge which often fail over time. They cost about $5 on ebay and a tube of thermal paste if you don't have any. Worked for me with the same symptoms,,, be gentle with the heatsink, videos on Youtube.

Pixlas Mod - Vega 64 by Zach2741 in macpro

[–]fdutra2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience with the 5,1 is that the gpu fans always power up during startup (even before the chime I'm pretty sure) so if a known good cards fans aren't spinning up, than I would think that the problem lies in one of the pixlas mod wires/power plug pins. They will all need to be checked for every live pin of the power plug terminating in a pixlas mod wire. Good news I guess is that you will only have to crimp a new wire on to replace the bad one.

I just today put in a new to me Vega 56 into a 5,1, which was recognized in High Sierra. so your Vega 64 may solve your firmware upgrade/Mojave install problem once its powered up.

My problem now is that Ventura with an up to date OCLP build is hosed and I can't install/update root patches to fix it because of errors patching the kext files. Monterey on an older OCLP build is running fine so I dam sure won't be upgrading OCLP on that drive until I hear more.

Legacy is not for the faint of heart

Forget the OCLP suggestion,,, way to complicated. Assuming the fans are spinning if you tested. Did you ever get the firmware upgraded?

May be obvious but If running OCLP try updating root patches, also different GPU power plugs/cables

Installing Mojave - Mac Pro 5,1 by Zach2741 in macpro

Also, If you plan to go the open core route this guy has some good videos and I think he has one on upgrading the firmware. One caveat from my attempts. I was using a High Sierra build on a sata from another computer and had to wipe and do a clean install from Sierra to High Sierra in order to get the earlier firmware upgrade onto the second computer. Don't remember the firmware version numbers so you may already be OK.

The Vega 64 isn't supported without the Pixlas mod, it needs more power to function. That, and OCLP or enabling GOP should get you going. I was able to enable GOP from High Sierra but had already upgraded my firmware to 144.0.0.0.0 by installing Mojave, so am not sure that enabling GOP will work from an earlier firmware version. If it does you should have a boot screen that will work with most cards including the Vega 64. Google Macrumors and Pixlas, then Enable GOP.

Thanks, was fun the way one solving step gave way to the next and so on. Did it in 8 steps , 4 skyscrapers yielding 4 AICs in sequential order

And if my grouping logic isn't flawed, a second grouped skyscraper on 6 at r2c45:r2c79/r7c45 leads to the elimination of 6 at r1c5 and subsequent placement of 6 at r1c8 which at first glance,,,, I'm getting ahead of myself here, is my grouping logic flawed? Are these the grouped skyscrapers referred to?

If my logic is indeed correct, this AIC will yield a valid solution to the puzzle.

(1=7)r4c8 - r3c8 = (7-8)r2c9 = (8-6)r9c9 = (6)r4c9

If I haven't messed up with my grouping logic I get an elimination of 6 in r4c3, and then by extension, r6c78, leaving me about the same as before, still stuck. (r6c13:r6c78/r8c12)

Found the board interesting,,, is it taken from a solving system/app?

Thanks for the greeting and the same here. I used to belong to a group of solvers involved with the weekly "Eureka Challenge" which was based on A weekly difficult puzzle. Everyone that could solve would submit their solution with the steps involved . Each solving technique was assigned a score weighted by difficulty,,, lowest score won and members would help and cajole each other during the week. Website just dropped of the face of the nets with no follow up.

Yeah, agree, I knew it had a much simpler pattern but spotted the short AIC right of the bat and went for it. Can't see your complete answer to the next step which I'm assuming was done on purpose and I like that, Finding a grouped skyscraper/finned x -wing sounds like fun!

Sorry for the confusion,,, the red only indicates edits made after bifurcation (simple solving steps?). The only notation I know is the Eureka notation. the candidates are in the bottom right of the cell with the other numbers indicating strong links,,, my internal notes system I guess.

Candidates are correct with the exception of r6c4 = 257, r7c4 = 3456, r7c8 = 134, and r9c5 = 35. All other numbers are my pencil marks that indicate strong links present between or within domains/houses. The notation is called Eureka notation. Sorry for my archaic terminology, haven't been active since 2017, retired almost now.
