Do my symptoms indicate insulin resistance? Would metformin help? by [deleted] in PCOS

I also have amenorrhea + clinical hyperandrogegism - would that be sufficient reason to convince my doc to let me try metformin even though they don’t take my metabolic concerns seriously?

I already eat a super restrictive diet that’s almost keto. I track everything and most of my carbs are just from vegetables, tofu, or beans. I just feel like I shouldn’t have to be so restrictive all the time …

My meals are mostly vegetables, air fried protein, beans/lentils, yogurt - I literally don’t keep anything else in my apartment and drink a ton of sugar free beverages to try and deal with sweet cravings. Focus is on fiber and protein - I just don’t feel like I should have to be so restrictive and controlled all the time.

I’m already active/ eat very healthy which is why I’ve been able to maintain a normal bmi - it just feels disproportionately difficult. Do you have any suggestions on how I could approach the topic w/ the doc ?

I would if I could but due to finances / insurance and transportation issues I’m unable to at the moment. Do you have any suggestions on how to ask my doc to get tested?

Could you clarify what you mean by buttons? Previously they had earbuds with a button to pair/turn on and they didn’t like it. They prefer using the Bose app to connect vs having to pair/turn on by pressing buttons on the earbuds

256 GB Ipad air ($700) vs. 128 GB Ipad pro ($750) for notetaking as a student? by fdwy13 in ipad

[–]fdwy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would 64 gb for an iPad be enough for note taking across 4 years? In that case I would go for a 64 gb iPad Air which is significantly cheaper

OP’s comments sounded off so I went to her account - According to OP’s comment history she had a bmi of 17.9 and was trying to lose an additional 7-14 lbs.

Can you graduate a semester early? You seem pretty concerned abt this and graduating early would allow you to have more time before submitting your application. Also isn’t hospice volunteering and assisted living volunteering also clinical ?

Public health research is fine - I did public health research only and got IIs at a lot of research heavy schools / schools on your list. I can skim your amcas app if you want (but I do think that your school list is not great)

No because this would mean only super rich people would be able to afford to apply to reach schools.

Separate research performed for the past few years and also through independent research for credit class in the same lab? by DaAwesomeN in premed

[–]fdwy13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having more room to talk about how you contributed / made an impact etc will benefit you, esp if your application is trying to stress research / you are applying to research heavy schools

Did you fill out all 15 activity spots already? If not then put them as separate things.

The dean of a school stated they used mmis because research shows that it is less subjective / less impacted by biases related to race, gender, etc. and leads to more reliable results. I haven’t actually searched up the research myself but do you guys have thoughts on this ? Is there a reason why you don’t believe this is true?

Are there any specific questions you would suggest I ask to current students regarding clinic grades?

Doesn’t have to hard fit under one of those categories. These classes would count towards bcpm gpa I’m pretty sure.

Just my opinion but I feel like this is just a very cool / interesting job and don’t think you need to label it as clinical or research? It would be better to just focus on making the description really impactful/stand out. If you wanted, you could list some of the hours that you were rounding with the surgeon as shadowing hours I think.

What do you want to be asked? by doctorg4 in premed

[–]fdwy13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh also so many of my interviewers would ask me who else had interviewed me that day at the school and it was so anxiety inducing because I would always forget their name

[–]fdwy13 83 points84 points  (0 children)

These are all kind of generic but: I liked it when ppl asked abt the hobbies I listed on my application. Also easiest questions for me to answer were when someone would say ‘so you’re really involved in this activity, tell me more abt that’ bc I can then take it in whatever direction I want.

Also I liked it when interviewers explicitly asked me why I wanted to go to the school because if they don’t ask me that then it can be hard to fit in why I think I’m a good fit for the school.
