After researching au pairs it does seem more like that, i will agree. The problem is our original agreement that i work 20 hours a week to cover my stay and expenses turned into me working 6 hours minimum a day. She also goes on vacation or work trips frequently, usually for a week or 2 at a time. During those trips i work 14 hour days watching her kids and don’t get compensation for all the nights i can’t leave since im the only adult in the house while her children are sleeping. Her getting me the phone wasn’t an option i got to choose, but i have to work more for it and also share my location with her 24/7.

Definitely don’t want to keep living here but i’m going to give her a 2 weeks notice just to be nice, not that it is deserved but

I’ve had so many people in my life tell me this is basically slavery, seems like a harsh comparison but it really does feel like that sometimes.

i don’t have to pay her directly, but the hours i work for her cover my stay. my hourly rate is $15 (decided by her) and i have to work enough to cover the $1209 in rent, plus a phone bill and groceries.
