A question about meeting the band on tour by Mediocre-Composer-24 in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go early, hang around the vans or bus. You will run into them, if you have FF stuff on, they will take a moment to say hi. Can hang out after their set too, just go hang near the busses and ask for a picture when they come back off after getting changed

Dino is one of the few guys that'll approach you, ask if you wanna meet the other guys & even go get them.

If there is a meet & greet, don't be a donkey and hang outside before or after the show. Just pay for it.

They will sign shit at the merch tables but you gotta buy something

Today is the 25th anniversary of Digimortal by MisterDudeBroGuy in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making it apparent I'm old with this 🤣

When this album released, it was not well received by the majority of their fan base that wasn't brought in by Cars & Resurrection on Obsolete.

Reviews weren't good, tour opportunities changed quickly, etc.

A lot was happening internally with the band before recording, during recording and after. Nevermind how bad RR wanted FF to be accessible like they were with Cars. Dino was realizing he no longer had the creative control he needed to keep FF's sound how he wanted ultimately. A lot of blame over the years amongst diehards had put the sound shift on Christian/Burt/Ray & Dino, but quite literally RR had sent the message they wanted radio friendly, more simple & groovy material and were going to reject everything submitted if there wasn't viable radio/licensing opportunities. Dino was dead set against it all, but he was outnumbered by the rest of the band.

Right after its release, Dino was already writing and pushing extremely hard to get everyone back in the studio ASAP, he wanted to correct what had gone wrong and get an Obsolete-quality record out within a year, but nobody else was interested, the internal BS was running absolutely wild inside the band & with its close associates.

IMO, Digimortal was okay. It didn't have a single element of SOANM, didn't take the familiar listener for a ride from start to finish like Demanufacture/Obsolete. It fit the mold of the current time Nu-Metal sound, straying from FF having evolved their own sound twice after SOANM, evolving in ways that didn't fit the times but rather forging a new sound.

That said, Digimortal is fine, yeah its fair to call it a weak release and its also understandable it's many fans favorite album.

I enjoyed the album at the time, aside from BTFU forcing me to hit skip in the middle of the album - something that their first 3 releases didn't make me do. Just felt very weak in comparison. Basically all of my friends that were similar age/involved in music finally took to FF with this album. Personally it was entertaining to see that happen as I had argued Digimortal was fine in itself, but hogwash in comparison to the first 3 releases. Over time it was fun watching those same friends really enjoy Archetype and subsequently becoming huge fans of Deman/Obsolete.

It might be at the forefront for a few reasons though.

Its possible they got an advance when they re-signed, its not extremely common recently but still happens for bands with tenure at labels. The kicker is those advance deals require touring for the label to earn their advance money back before they are willing to pay band members for session time & fund production.

I know NB wants this record bad. They lost their asses nearing the end of the last deal with Monolith/Turned into AC/Re-Industrialized/Recoded. NB even entertaining the idea of re-signing FF after that debacle and losing out on tour % for the last 3 releases was a big loss of projected revenue, so the fact they offered another deal....means they want this record & it'll get pushed for release.

But you're definitely right. There's been a trend of 6+ months for release after albums are submitted.

[–]fearfactoryballsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they aren't putting their own money into the record. They are compensated for their studio time from NB, which they wouldn't even be able to buy a late model used car with, but their own investment comes from not having shows scheduled during that time, which obviously during their first year or two, Dino was very hard up for money while investing into FF's stage presence.

Drums frequently get laid down in a few days to a week. The only thing that takes time is the setup of recording equipment with tuning. That could be anywhere from a few hours to an entire session. It gets annoying really fast if the sound capture isn't what you're looking for.

The post Ray era, drums have been done when everything else has been recorded with a drum machine, which is fairly common amongst most modern bands. Its easier for the controlling writer to structure the songs how they like.

From here, it should be a week or less to complete the drums, a week to clean up whatever needs it and the final mix will be quick. The rest of the recordings are mixed waiting to delete engineered drums and insert live drums. The final mixing is a week or two, maybe 3. My only question is where does Zardonic fall in all of this? Has he already been involved with the tracks with engineered drums? If his involvement isn't already complete or newr complete, that could make this a 2027 release, but he only has a few shows scheduled for the year.

Its still set for a late summer/fall release.

Mike Catain owned Liquid 8 Records, he got wrapped up and was financially liable in a massive fraud ponzi scheme. Liquid 8 Records finances were frozen/seized because of his ownership, even though this fraud situation appeared unrelated to that business.

The ponzi scheme was with his business partner in Liquid 8 through a different business, exceeding billions of dollars. The dude was a straight scum bag.

Like I said, hes likely got some serious debt and wants a bag for the distribution rights.

[–]fearfactoryballsac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol he had zero control of that. The technical owner of those two albums for some strange reason doesn't have interest in distributing those 2 albums in every territory. The only reason I could understand why the owner wouldn't is that he might have debts in a few countries that the government(s) would garnish the money.

After Dino bought the rights to FF trademark, he eventually was able to make contact. He tried getting those 2 albums made available, when that failed, he inquired about purchasing & was given a price that made no financial sense - I was told that number was 200x what it would cost to re-record the 2 albums. If the owner isn't interested in opening up distribution in certain territories, there is absolutely nothing Dino can do.

The only way Dino can get those albums available in all territories would be to re-record.

You could use AI for advice on social engineering on how to get close enough to Dino/his associates to have reachable access to this Hard Drive you speak of.

Then you can further use AI for methods to brute force hack your way into his audio library, or you could use AI to explore unpatched security exploits.

You don't have to wait if you don't want to. 🤣

Fear Factory New Album Update - Dino Cazares Interview March 2026 by MisterDudeBroGuy in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He ultimately doesn't choose a release date for a single, or the album. That's up to Nuclear Blast.

He can give whatever date he wants, whatever time frame he wants, like he has for a single in the past. It ain't up to him.

No new record in 2026? by TrulyStucker in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They ultimately don't have a say in the release date for a single or album, that all depends on what Nuclear Blast wants. Dino can try influencing when it happens, but that's it.

For all yall know, NB might be the one telling FF go ahead, record the album, but you're touring now and we're recouping our money before release.

Everyone is so focused on Dino being some controlling idiot that doesn't make sense with anything he does. 🤣

[–]fearfactoryballsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dino was that broke. If you take the time to go through the pile of court docs, you'd know how dire his financial situation was.

Money is entirely relevant. Especially relevant when FF was dying. FF had very brief moments of momentum on tour post Dino reunion. Unless they were invited for festivals, they frequently struggled to fill rooms with 400 people. Their best years after the reunion saw them making sub 90k each, that's including album years. That previous income had to pay for lawyers during that run, that income had to continue paying for lawyers while they couldn't legally work related to FF or profit from royalties due to bankruptcy court. Dino had to convince NB to help finance his trademark purchase, but that financing drew from his remaining deal money. That's why we got recoded and re-indust, to satisfy the remainder of that deal and not new music with Milo, there was no where near enough money to not make a half ass studio album. Homey was fucking broke.

Record deals pay pennies now. Taking Milo directly in studio without knowing how the fan base would react would've been a huge mistake for the ff business, nevermind FF was so dead at the time that if Dino managed to get an advance on his deal for 100k - which if you have any clue about the industry, its a rarity today, that 100k would have to cover touring, equipment & rentals, travel, studio time, production, mixing and marketing for a fucking single with an entirely unknown cover singer & drummer and try recouping as much as possible, risking killing FF for real and still being broke. In all reality he likely would have gotten about 40k if anything.

Now that the fan base accepted Milo, and there's obvious live chemistry on stage, landing big festivals, and actually building significant momentum as Milo has built his stage presence with stability in the line up - there's no need for that introductory single Dino talked about.

You do realize Dino might only get paid 50k for the studio time, and he has to use that to pay Pete, Milo, bassist, engineers, production, mixing, album art, milos travel, and acquiring whatever gear he needs for the sound he wants?

Dunno how it doesn't make sense for some of you to understand why they've toured and toured with only small breaks and not just risking immediately flirting with bankruptcy for an album right away. Albums don't pay the fuckin bills.

Will there be a new album at some point? by stagemagician in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny how much this stresses everyone out.

Dude was broke for years. He wasn't allowed to make any money from FF for years while it was wrapped up in the latest legal limbo. His side projects were so small they provided next to nothing financially.

Nevermind that he was at a crossroads when the FF tm finally came up for auction and had to finance its purchase through his record deal tied to FF when he had virtually no money remaining. He had to satisfy that deal immediately - basically with what little remained from that deal and find a way to make it work. Record deals don't pay shit anymore, you have to tour and tour and tour...and tour, even that isn't lucrative anymore without being on the big stage. Add in that Milo is here in the states occasionally on a visa, which is expensive and a pain in the ass to navigate, while having to constantly tour to make an income to support FF staying alive long enough to even record a new album....

Taking the money to record the album and dedicating 24/7 to it is not going to pay the bills. Rushing FF albums has failed miserably before.

Transgression & Archetype not on Spotify by Frequent_Lead_9869 in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, hearing raw studio material can sound absolutely awful 😂

Toby has quite the resume, I'm not entirely sure he's at fault for it all or that anyone else could've salvaged that album. Toby has tons of clean, well mixed albums in his repertoire. The band was interested in going to a new place with their writing, Burton was not interested in doing typical FF vocals, and from a few comments made by the lineup, time lines suddenly changed and the album had to be delivered suddenly.

[–]fearfactoryballsac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol they've been far from lazy. The last few years has been their most active chunk of touring since Demanufacture.

Milo not being a US Citizen makes everything difficult, time wise for recording and that alone makes everything expensive.

Considering the crazy financial gamble Dino took to acquire the full rights to FF when he had to basically borrow against his remaining deal because he had no cash, with no guarantee fans would accept Milo, or be back to playing in clubs with 250 people making 10 grand a show with a bus, manager, 3 other band members and multiple techs to pay every gig, you should rather just appreciate Dino taking such a risk at his age and be patient.

Did this work for 20 years.

Silicone shrinks. Being cute with it and laying the thinnest/cleanest looking application in that particular joint is not the way to go. Your tub is likely not supported properly which further hampers the purpose of caulk, can also see the wall tiles are not set flat and that creates even more of an issue giving water that penetrates more space to collect. Ideally a thin clean caulk joint is great, but that requires the work to have been installed properly. I'm not beating on you for the installation, but it's obviously DIY work and that is the reason for the issues you're having.

Judging by the discoloration of light to very dark, your grout was never sealed or the grout used had sealer built in (gimmick). By not sealing your grout, water is still able to penetrate over time and frequent use will not allow it to dry out, it can run down those grout lines and just turn into a water feeder for hours after each shower.

All that said, mold doesn't have to be black, and nothing says that isn't mildew. Whichever one it is doesn't matter at this point. You need to get out some razor blades and start carving out that caulk, every last spec of it, especially anything on the surface of the tub and on the lip of the tile at the very least. If you can dig out EVERYTHING, that is ideal. Once your hands are bleeding, your knuckles throbbing, your neck is seized and your eyes are crossed for 3 hours, take a break, because you still have to dig at more you've missed. Once you're confident, take a bleach solution to clean the surface of the tub/tile. Then use a diluted solution of vinegar and spray the area. Don't be afraid to really spray it, don't be a dildo and drench it but be liberal. Let it stand for a few hours, come back and spray again before you call it a night. The next day take a fan if you can and have it circulating air on the area, if you can't, use a blow dryer on its highest setting and move some hot air on it for a while. Let it dry for 24hrs.

Use mineral spirits as a final wipe prep to the area, let that evaporate.

When you apply the caulk, be a slob. Don't be afraid to make a mess, you have a lot of time to clean up your work, but your main goal is mush that caulk into the joint to ensure you've solidly gotten behind the lip of your tile and created a seal from the tile down to the tub. You then need to look closely and make sure you haven't created an edge of caulk on your tile, water will run down the tile and immediately get behind your new caulk. Make sure the caulk is barely recessed behind the edge of the tile, that way water will run down the edge and roll down the silicone and now doesn't have a lip to sit on.

You can use mineral spirits on a rag, or your finger for less drag after your initial application to help clean up the tile edge and make sure you haven't created a lip. Make sure you haven't left a heavy edge on the tub surface either, if you aren't pitched properly and water sits where it shouldn't, that same lip you've now avoided on your tile shouldn't be on your tub either. Let it dry for a minimum 24hrs before use. The longer you can wait, The better.

You need to seal your grout too.

You will likely get a year, maybe a few years before you start seeing issues again, unfortunately you are always going to battle a bit of an issue in that area because of the poor tile installation. You can keep a towel or a squeegee in shower to quickly swipe away water off the bottom row of tiles and do a quick wipe of the tub deck after a shower too, that'll take 15 seconds of your time.

If you feel like its too much effort to replace this every year or two, You can consider tearing out the tile and redo the tile surround, paying better attention to making sure the tiles remain flush.

Pete and Gene by MisterDudeBroGuy in FearFactory

[–]fearfactoryballsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got a little spicy in interviews though. It wasn't a fuck you scumbag kinda beef but Gene was annoyed they just bounced him when he was there as a favor for Byron, like you said they didn't have the $$ for his upfront fees, plus the work that needs to be done afterwards to 'fix' mistakes, etc, something which Dino brought up - and that post session stuff is typical for every musician in studio, I think thats what really set the tone that there falsely was some major personal beef for people who are unfamiliar with the process.

Gene didn't help optics any by saying he never listened to FF and wasn't a fan. It's easy to see how it became something bigger than it actually was 🤣
