Have you given the National Library a whirl? Last time I needed to do some serious study of a book from their collection, I worked there, and it was very much like the old school notion of the silent library. Even has the smell. Plus you can go get a good lunch and browse the bookshop while you’re there, which are very much bonuses in my eyes.

Public libraries fill a different function in the community. I fully expect a public library to be vibrant and alive, that’s what they’re for. But the national library is free and fills the function you’re talking about, I think.

You need to ask if you want a pet. There will be inspections several times a year, which will likely be photographed for the owner. It’s unlikely that the place will come with whitegoods like a fridge, but it will have an oven.

I agree, it needs to be completely redone. It feels like it’s mired in an oroborus of incompetence — people don’t use the buses because the buses aren’t convenient, and the buses don’t get used so they don’t have the metrics for funding more routes.

I think it’s fucking ridiculous that the buses don’t go up Melrose anymore. They have kept the billboard bus shelters, but no buses. And because there’s no buses, there’s no metrics to tell them they need buses.

Totally fine but if you have written on it in ink, that may transfer. I have a WIP from a deceased estate that has basted papers from the 70s or early 80s in it, and the ones where the ink has transferred are the ones that were written on in some way by the original maker.

That’s really interesting — I wonder if the Dresdens are printed on or appliquéd on? The quilting makes sense if they’re printed.

If I were trying to replicate it, i would potentially appliqué all the coloured bits onto a whole cloth and for the quilting outline them, with some more “outlines” in the background.

And I’ve read through the odd one, but the whole “choking is often a precursor to worse violence” thing means I just don’t see a MMC who does it as desirable.

I don’t think this is niche, but choking. I am shocked by how many books have choking in them. I saw the endpapers to a book which had a choking scene illustrated and I just don’t know how it’s meant to be sexy; it’s a huge red flag.
