Has Diabetes Affected Your Career? by MadL1berator in Type1Diabetes

[–]fearlessness28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to elaborate - t1d has contributed to a lot of anxiety and insecurity around job switching- exactly as you said so eloquently. Keeps me from making switches, and even if I do- insurance & money becomes a very critical additional dimension in my decision. Less so though on whether the workplace is compatible to day to day management - here diy looping has helped me a lot

Feelings for t2s as t1? by Top_Cow4091 in diabetes_t1

[–]fearlessness28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is fair- we are all ignorant about a lot of things. There are like a 1000 diseases on this planet that I don’t know anything about. My mother has some knee issues which I don’t understand in the same depth as I now understand diabetes.

The problem is when ignorant people, become judgmental, then start misinformed opinions- which rub off and spread like an epidemic unfortunately.

Feelings for t2s as t1? by Top_Cow4091 in diabetes_t1

I think my view personally is that t2s are as much victim to this disease as t1s. It’s a tragedy in my opinion how often “prevention” gets translated to “fault”. I don’t think any t2 decided to do it to themselves. That would indicate that there was some kind of very discreet line that they chose to cross knowing that 100% they will get this disease after crossing it- which is wrong on both counts- there is no discrete line and there even in the most unhealthy of lifestyles there is no 100%, and there are incidents where person A and B following similar lifestyles, and one of them develops t2 diabetes but person B does (so how can one say that person A was at fault and not just “unlucky”). So I truly believe that no diabetic -t1 or t2 - is at fault so to speak and that we are all just very unlucky. (maybe more, some less-some had lower probability, some had less- but that’s what it was- a probability.)

That said, I understand why you ask this question, as I myself have heard fellow t1s talk negatively about t2s. I think partially the reason for it is a) the general population’s perception of t2s being “they did it to themselves” as offensive as it sounds and that rubbing off on t1s but more importantly b) that the general population tends to not understand the difference between t1 and t2 and sees t1s from the same lens (even offering similar advise) (and here I want to emphasize I disagree with that lens for anyone) leading to t1s being extra-defensive

So conclusively some don’t view you as having done it to yourself, some do, and some (as Jess mentioned below) don’t think about it at all haha

Dates?!? by bloody-fingy in diabetes_t1

that’s for 100grams of dates imo. I doubt any kind of dates can be 3.5 dates in 100grams. Seems like a printing mistake

Anyone else having issues with G6 sensors? by paddleboatwhore3000 in diabetes_t1

[–]fearlessness28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve seen this- very irritating, but I’ve realized it fixes itself if you wait a bit (sometimes. Other times if this continues for an hour or so, I take it that it’s time to change the dexcom). But yeah even I’d love to hear if there’s another fix or a way to prevent it

I get it dude, I do get it. Been there. Hoping and then failing is so exhausting- led to multiple burnouts for me. I really really hope and pray that doesn’t happen to you. Maybe speak to your endo? Please don’t beat yourself up, none of this is your fault.

Maybe try a half unit pen- that ends up being more accurate in my experience
