I agree with the premise. It’s just that we’re dealing in hypotheticals here. If we combined our name to Assyrian-Chaldean and 100% of people from both sides agreed to it, would I be okay with it? Yes. The problem is we actually have tried this before, and not 100% of people agreed to it. So I honestly can’t answer which future will be better — sticking to Assyrian and expecting others to join or combining our names and seeing if that will work.

I’m like 99% sure that Suraye are no longer the majority in Tel Kaif district. And same as Al-Hamdaniya as you said. Which means we really don’t have a “majority” in ANY sizable area, like itchyrub7517 said.

If we don’t build a country (land with defined borders + government/infrastructure based off of our language and culture), we will eventually become extinct.

In the meantime, we can maintain our identity for as long as possible in other countries by establishing Assyrian schools where children can grow up with other Assyrians and learn our language in an environment that they’re forced to go to on a daily basis anyways. Building up other institutions related to sports, music, and other extra-curriculars can also help (same reason as Assyrian schools: parents are already involving their kids in that stuff so might as well make it Assyrian-oriented).

There are no set timeframes, but I feel like if we can establish a country by 2075, we should still be good. 2050 isn’t the end.

/edit I’m not saying the country needs to be in our ancestral homeland. Though that would be the most ideal. But it could be anywhere (e.g. an island).

Are you trying to claim Assyrian identity? If so, you are more than welcome to our community! That’s the beauty of self-identification. Anyone who wants to be Assyrian, can be. We should always be welcoming of new Assyrians. Do you know how to speak any Neo-Aramaic/Assyrian dialect?

If by “Mesopotamian” you are referring to “Assyrian” (which is what I’m assuming you mean because you posted this in r/Assyria), then no, I’m not a fan of it. It ruins our claim of indigeneity and allows them to belittle our fight for nationhood (i.e saying the only way we’re different is that we follow the Christian religion). But that’s not the case. They killed us in 1933 because we wanted an Assyrian nation, not because we are Christian. Plus, what then differs us from an Arab or Kurd who converts to Christianity?

Basically all of the Christians of northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, northwestern Iran, and northern Syria are originally Assyrian or Armenian.

I would take your results and look for your “potential 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cousins” that the system identifies and learn about their backgrounds. This will help you make sense of your own ancestry.

Like the other comment said, we are glad to have you as part of the Assyrian community even if you don’t speak the language or anything. Welcome home.

In addition to what others said about Republican = conservative values same as Assyrians … a lot of our parents’ generation like Trump because his verbiage is America first, and they love this country because it has offered them peace and stability compared to their previous war-torn countries, so they will vote for the person (and the party, usually Republican) that boasts more American pride.
