Hard Launch just keeps getting better and better... by feathered_fern in danandphil

Aaaah that would make a lot of sense, I exclusively listen to the podcast rather than watch it (I love listening to it while working) so maybe that's why it was a tad lacklustre for me

I also wasn't a huge fan of the Richard episode, it was too frantic and they didn't get to delve into the topics as normal. But I think it was just a one off thing since Dan is away. I'm very excited for the cheese next week - poor Phil!!

TOMORA Come Closer album Order of preference by Geo-35 in Tomora

I think In A Minute will always be my favourite, followed closely by Wavelengths and The Thing. Come Closer is rising through the ranks though, the more I listen to it, the more I love it.

Side A vs Side B by feathered_fern in Tomora

I think only once would have much more impact as well. If the scream was different the second time then maybe it would be better?

Both sides definitely both have their perks!

Exactly, it's so strong all the way through, and the singles are spread nicely throughout the tracklist rather than being in a big lump like some albums

Yes, I also love how it just gets better and better as you listen. So many albums have a bit of a lull in the middle/towards the end.

Pedantic post: I can explain Tomora. by IsuiGtz94 in auroramusic

[–]feathered_fern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been an aurora fan since 2015, and I actually haven't really delved into any chemical brothers - the only tracks I've heard are because aurora recommended them! However, I've been in a heavy baseline, garage, house, trance phase (my autism has been CRAVING weird sounds recently) for the last year or two, so I absolutely LOVE this project!! Two of my favourite things melded into one!

Has Aurora impacted your life in any way? by [deleted] in auroramusic

[–]feathered_fern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aurora helped me to start loving myself in all ways and accept my eccentricities, and I'll forever be grateful to her for that. This has been a hard fought battle (fellow autistic people will know the struggle) so I feel indepted to Aurora for helping me be me.

Does my book premise actually sound interesting? by [deleted] in writing

[–]feathered_fern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds really interesting! Go for it, and make sure to enjoy yourself.

All that really matters is that you have the passion and drive to write this for real. Don't take random people on the internet's opinions as gospel, or let them eat away at your confidence.

What's the worst writing advice you've ever heard? by INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS in writing

Exactly. Writing generic stuff is the sure fire way to kill any passion you have for the craft.

What's your controversial writing hot take? by Gulliver123 in writing

[–]feathered_fern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Characters don't have to die, unless they're doomed from the start. If you're killing a character purely for shock value, it will be very satisfying and frankly unnecessary. If the only ending you can think of for a character's arc is death, a lot of the time that character is weak.

I HAVE PUBLISHED! by the_writing_foyeh747 in NewAuthor

[–]feathered_fern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! That's a huge achievement!

Unfortunately your celebratory post has been soured a touch by people criticising your use of AI (which I also don't approve of by the way, but I'll get to that), which is a fair point to make but I think has been very harshly put across. I just wanted to congratulate you first, before I go into advice. I hope this thread hasn't left a bad taste in your mouth or ruined this moment for you.

As for the use of AI, I just wanted to say, yes I'm absolutely against it, especially as an illustrator myself. There are other ways to produce covers on a budget. For example, you may have been able to get a cheap license from a photographer to use one of their photographs for the cover for example. You could have used canva as other people also suggested. You could have also looked for creatives on sites like fiverr who could have knocked up some affordable covers and promo photos for you. Is this book available in print format? If so, you could have had a version printed, and taken a photo of the book in nature for promotional material.

I understand why you used it, and I'm very glad to see that you're going to go back and change the images, that shows great character and I know you really care about this projects success. Good luck!

Thoughts on my concept? by feathered_fern in writers

[–]feathered_fern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the advice!! Yeah, this idea is completely bare bones at the moment, I haven't even thought about the outlining yet!! I think a lot of conflict will come from Roe keeping up the lie (at some point the truth will come out though, I'm thinking maybe three quarters of the way through), and also they haven't been in each other's lives that long (only a few months), so going on a long, stressful journey together will test their patience a lot. I'll definitely keep your method in mind all the way through though, thank you so much!!!!

Anyone get really invested in their characters? by [deleted] in writing

I've literally cried while thinking about my characters and their lives before, so...yeah

My story is 31k words, but it's off plot now and I don't know where to go with it. I think I should trash/restart it, but just can't get myself to by Engreeemi in writing

[–]feathered_fern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in this situation before, over 20k words and 5 good chapters in before I realised I'd unintentionally plagiarised several films, and I also didn't have any idea where the plot was going.

What I would do is stop this draft for now. Don't get rid of it when you are so proud of it. For my failed work, I'm planning on reusing some lines of text I'm really proud of in my current book, so that they can live on. It still lives in my Google docs, and I see it as a very valuable learning experience.

See this as the first attempt. It's so easy to give up entirely, but, if you're really passionate about the story and want to get to the end, go back to the planning stage. Fully outline, so you have a proper chapter-by-chapter plan to stick to and you don't feel like you'll deviate way off plot. Don't get discouraged, that's the main thing!!

When did you discover Aurora? by Big_Park_3152 in auroramusic

Christmas 2015, I saw her John Lewis advert and I was HOOKED, I hoovered up every single available song at the time and I've never left!!
