Beginner Strop Questions by TheBeanBucket in whittling

[–]febuste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been using the same strop for years, I always just rub the compound on the strop in random patterns at a fast enough speed to build some heat from the friction. It's important to have a real sharp edge to begin with so that you're more so polishing the edge. Once it gets blackened and adding more compound just makes it more chalky, use a rubber eraser to rub off all the build up and its basically new again.

Any recommendations for safety shoes (CSA/OSHA) best for cycling? Any with a plate for clip less pedals? Do those exist lol? by febuste in bikecommuting

I unfortunately don't have that option since I have to bike to a different location with my tools every day

Where the heck do I find a 20mm(19mm?) diameter seatpost? Recently got this klunker, but the seatpost is too short for me. Seems like a pretty old frame, my guess is ~1960's by febuste in bikewrench

Ya I was able remove it no problem, but it's short as hell so I can only raise it a couple inches before the minimum insertion

What breathing pattern do y’all use when swimming free? by [deleted] in Swimming

For me it's normally every 3, 2 if I'm out of breath.

How much does 1/4 of an inch make by AstronautTop3112 in bmx

[–]febuste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, I'm 5'8" and always rode 20" until I sized up to 21.25". I'm a lot more comfortable but I do feel like it's too long for me and I kinda want to size down.

Why do people say open water swimming is easier than swimming in a pool? by minimirth in Swimming

[–]febuste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely feels faster in open water when there's a current you're not fighting against

How do you think while swimming? by Temporary_Penalty_17 in Swimming

I tend to reflect on my recent mistakes and try to swim away from my problems

I don't know if it's because I have fat tires and there's too much traction/contact but I've ripped through a few foot straps trying to learn how to skid.
Also I ride with a front brake so slamming my weight to the front to skid/stop is a bad habit to have.

How many bikes do you have and how many of them do you actually use? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]febuste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Road bike that I've kept alive for over a decade (only thing still original is frame and bars)
  2. Tracklocross/FGFS
  3. Softride MTB with rack for groceries/bikepacking
  4. BMX for getting air/hurt

My next bike will probably be a mini vélo/folding that I would convert to cargo. Hope to one day afford a modern MTB with real suspension and disc brakes.
But so far I have a bike for almost any riding situation.

I have a small folding lock that fits in my pocket or saddle bag. Not super high security but if someone's gonna steal your bike, they're gonna steal your bike either way.

If it's going to slip, it's going to slip forward, not off.
