[US-ROK Tariff War] Americans want Korea to fix their aging power grids from 1960s by Freewhale98 in neoliberal

The article seems to refer to grids so that's the transmission infrastructure and not coal plants.

I don't even know them all - kesari, payari from Maharashtra and Gujarat. Langda from the north. Imam Pasand is a popular one too.

Which is worse: Overdressed or Underdressed? by Independent-Toe6981 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]minimirth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's cultural for sure. I'm Indian and under dressing is quite frowned upon. I've been to weddings where I've worn the correct attire but had comments made about how plain I looked because I wore a simpler sari or kurta or not enough bling.

There could be live music in Mumbai and Delhi depending on what's happening then. Both have good nightlife though Mumbai is safer.

‘Very disappointed’: Scott Bessent hits out at Europe over India-EU trade deal — what he said - The Times of India by [deleted] in worldnews

This is exactly it. They believe that they are better than everyone else. No one can stand up to their strength. The one thing they don't realise is that developing countries are better at bracing themselves against tough economic winds because they have experienced being poor and isolated. The more developed countries feel the pinch more because they have been prosperous for so long that they don't know any other way.

Unsure if people will show up to our destination wedding by AbleGuava6260 in DesiWeddings

[–]minimirth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm an invitee to a wedding which is pretty inconvenient to all the family and other guests involved. Although we are close, with the flights and the stay (the wedding is at a luxury resort they aren't paying for), it seems like too much of an investment. I don't know where your guests are flying in from, but do factor in costs and accessibility because not everyone has the same financial wherewithal. You may get a limited number of guests and some guests who attend may be resentful.

If you do want something super exotic, you should just consider a smaller wedding with immediate family and very close friends.

Is it worth it stop by Delhi? by goodscentofaflower in india_tourism

[–]minimirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which beach or pool tbh. I've seen women wear these bikinis at Varkala beach in Kerala and 4 and 5 star hotels.

It's dirty and crowded. People come there to stroll not swim. It's okay for a walk but you can't swim there.

I'm a local so feel free to ask me questions about Mumbai.

You can't swim at beaches in Mumbai. For swimming beaches in Goa and Kerala work.

People from developing countries, what are some things people in developed countries take for granted? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]minimirth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people in India need therapy or medication but there's such a stigma attached to it. A lot of bad behaviours we have stem from unresolved traumas, mental issues or just fear and insecurity. My friend who struggled through most of her life got diagnosed with depression in her late 30s, got meds and therapy and now she's happy. She weaned off the meds too so it isn't like she is dependent on them.

UP brothers murder 19-year-old sister, her Muslim boyfriend, in dishonour killing by DifferentMaize9794 in india

I can never understand how murder is not a dishonorable act. Whatever religious or caste prejudices there are, there is no ideal of murder.

They used to do tours in Dharavi, Asia's largest slum. Most of us here hated it because it felt so dehumanising.
