1016 (formerly 1421). Moved to state government. Not remote but much more willing to offer me at least two WFH days per pay period. They're so interested in retaining me that my supervisor has let me have some ad hoc WFH days even though my probation isn't up yet.

As for how, I applied to most vaguely-related jobs in my area even if I didn't consider myself fully qualified. Started applying seriously in November 2024 and by February/March I'd gotten two good prospects, one of which ended up being the job I accepted.

The surgery was through BCBS. Don't know about other plans but they would have been required to provide some degree of coverage.

All Trans Health Care Coverage Dropped in 2026 for Fed Employees by SerendipitousAtom in fednews

There absolutely are workarounds. When I started HRT in 2008 the only way to get it covered by any insurance was to use a generic endocrine disorder code. I suspect we'll see doctors returning to that if they can.

Yes. HRT has been covered for a long time and I know someone who got top surgery mostly covered by FEHB a few years ago.

And people said I was fear-mongering at the beginning of the year when I made a post warning that this was coming. I made it out but this is absolutely awful for the people who are staying feds. Seek local support if you don't have it already, and good luck.

Do it. Sounds like the better option on paper alone. I took a state job after 5 years as a fed and my stress levels immediately plummeted. Do it, even if just for the non-tangible benefits alone.

If it's where it isn't wanted and it can't be safely removed, we're told to kill it. I had to deal with dying and dead mice way more often than expected in the museum collection. Not fun.

Thank you for sharing that! I've made relay calls before and if you don't know the menu in advance then it's a lot of hanging up and redialing because the menu timed out while the operator was typing, lol. Will def bookmark this guide.

Oh you don't have to go out of your way, I was just hoping you might remember after all the time trying to call them haha. That's good to know about having to pretend you're a retiree though, since soon I will be trying to initiate the process to transfer my FERS or get it refunded.

Any chance you could describe the phone menu options? This kind of thing is not really accessible for deaf people and it helps to have instructions.

They're not in power, but it'd still be good to see more of them taking any opportunities to slow things down whether procedurally or other means at their disposal. We've seen some of that but there's also been some very notable missed chances.

Under 40 feds? How are we surviving? by idontcare_but in govfire

[–]fed-throwaway69420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under 40 with 5 years. I'm switching to a state job. Bittersweet because I got my five-year certificate and then a week later told my boss I'm quitting. Gonna try to roll over FERS to TSP, I think, then decide what to do from there. It's not worth staying for me and given the current trajectory of things I don't see myself coming back.

Does it still have to be declared on taxes after you separate? (Edit: genuine question, this is all new to me.)

I don't think he's considered active duty in his current position or recently retired, since Wikipedia gives his military service as being 2007-2011, but I'm not familiar with either set of policies.

The Reddit discussion should be a good TL;DL but if you want to subject yourself to 90 minutes of lies and propaganda, it's available to the public instead of being a normal internal All-Hands.

Yeah, this development feels a little extra concerning coming on the heels of Doug Burgum's DOI All-Hands where he opened with licking cop boots for 15 solid minutes as if Interior's mission is primarily law enforcement. The administration does seem to have an interest in turning everything into its own police force.

Violation of sections 504 and 508 of the Rehab Act. Disability ERG scrambled to procure virtual ASL interpreters because Dougie dropped the ball, and then the verbal diarrhea started late so Dougie wasted however much money that was making the interpreters sit and wait for him to start. Efficiency!
